เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 10 มิ.ย. 2019
Hi, I'm Robin!
I'm a nerd who bought a catamaran four years ago with my husband with zero experience (yeah zero, zip, zilch on a boat)
Follow along as we experience the awesome and the awful on our trusty S/V Reboot, a Lagoon 380S2 sailing catamaran.
Repairs? Check.
Repairs that go horribly wrong? Check.
Upgrades? Check.
Upgrades that cost WAY more than I planned? Check.
Good weather? Check.
Bad weather? Check (ugh!)
Gorgeous, gorgeous sailing? Check, check, CHECK CHECK CHECK!!!
If you're wondering why you only catch glimpses of my husband, it's on purpose.
We could tell you why, but then we'd have to...well, you know.
Sea you out there!

A Hybrid DIY Battery System On A Catamaran?
Yeah, I can see you shaking your head at me, Mr. Doubtful.
Can you run a sailing catamaran on a hybrid LFE lithium battery bank AND an existing AGM battery bank without having it all go south? Follow along and find out as I attempt a hybrid install of a dedicated bank of Sun Fun Kit LFE batteries with a 12,000 BTU Mabru 12v DC air conditioner using the existing solar and Balmar alternator onboard.
The designs and brains behind this is @theyachtriggerstpete , who didn't immediately call me crazy and dismiss me when I asked if this was possible. Even better, when the install took an unexpected turn through no fault of either us or TYR, they pivoted and created something even better.
My inspiration was a video from @TheOKellys on their previous catamaran Clarity, where they installed a Mabru with the help of Andre Cormier, one of the owners of The Yacht Rigger. For the last three years that video has been swimming around in my head as I thought of a way to make it work onboard Reboot.
Finally, it's happening, and I can't wait to bring you along to see the results. We are under a time crunch, the Bahamas are waiting!

Did We Sell Our Catamaran For An RV?

When sailors go shopping at an RV show, it means one of two things: either we're going back to the land, or we're looking for budget-conscious ways to upgrade Reboot, our Lagoon 380 sailing catamaran. Air Conditioner Onboard Our Catamaran Is Broken

Webasto marine air conditioners are not my favorite, and I'll tell you why and I'll tell you what's on my list for upgrading our sailing catamaran. When you shake your house around and throw salt water at it, you expect things to break. And break they do on Reboot, our Lagoon 380. However, on this, our longest trip to date, I was pleasantly surprised at how few things actually did break! If you...

Yeah nice that aircon ducting isn’t conductive at all
You are dong it the right way - learn as much as possible, and ask as many questions as you can before you start hooking up any batteries and other electrical equipment. With guidance from Yacht Riggers I'm sure you will end up with a nice functioning system. I look forward to following your battery upgrade adventure.
Thanks! Happy to have you along for the ride. Looking forward to the next part of the install 👏⛵️
Nice work! the lewmar seals are incredibly poor design they should have been made in one piece. We have 12 portlights and 13 hatches! Now the change of failure is 100% and that you will suffer damage due to leakage. Its a contant struggle to keep it dry 🙂
I agree! Why is it so difficult to make a decent hatch?
You know what happens when you try to put out a lithium fire with water. You put that shit in a boat. Make sure your death benefits, and your life insurance are up to par every time you go sailing.
I appreciate your concern, but it’s unfounded. LFE batteries do not have problems with fires or thermal runaway.
@ you’re an outright liar or you’re extremely ignorant to say there’s no basis in fact. LFE batteries actually explode during water contact. Yes they may be safe, but I think I’d rather have a fire than an explosion. On a boat. The reduction of lithium in the water produces the hydrogen that would cause the explosion.
@ bless your heart 😎
@@RebootTheCatamaran500° is thermal runaway for them. I know it's hard since you lost everything but use your brain.
LiFePO4 ≠ lithium ion. They are much safer and more stable, they use a solid electrolyte, they don’t leak, they’re less susceptible to fire… completely different despite both containing lithium. The key thing with all battery systems is hooking everything up right, using shunts and fuses, and regularly checking connections and components, especially in a marine environment. And despite having less risks than lithium ion, life is inherently dangerous. Sailing can be dangerous. You do things by the book to avoid the dangers, or live in a bubble and call people names in TH-cam comments, whatever floats *your* boat.
What is wrong with your camera? did you use a filter or is it broken? very bad quality. And why are there no pictures / scenes from the inside? Expected not much - got disappointed...
The Insta360 decided to film in the underwater mode, then overheated and shut off for most of the inside tour. I had one shot to get the tour, unfortunately, and this was the best I could get it to look after hours of post-production editing. Hoping Santa brings me a DJI camera for Christmas so my equipment won’t let me down so much in the future.
Have you survived a hurricane? How did you prepare and what would you do differently?
Crazy. I saw another TH-camr video there 6 boats to wipe onto beach after Milton. Total loss in Grenada.
We had seven large boats wash onto our street in downtown 😔
Awesome nice job 💪
Thanks ✌
We were in bermuda about 7 years ago (during the americas cup year) when the boat (a 52ft catamaran) took a direct hit. The weather station 500 feet from the boat broke recording 120kts of wind. We actually took the boat out of the slip and anchored in a small cove. Took the main off the boom (painful) and removed the jib, getting rid of as much windage as possible. Even went up the mast and removed the wind instrument. Boat did really well, with no issues. The only rather odd outcome was the foot tall piles of dried salt behind the main cabin door... A couple on a boat not too far away rode the storm out in their boat, said it was easily the stupidest thing they have ever done.
That is incredible! I don’t think I’d be brave enough to go up the mast of a 52’ cat, I’m scared out of my wits going up our much shorter mast 😅 Wild about the salt, I wonder why so much accumulated 🤔
Nice work!!
We are so relieved!
nice job!
Thanks! Hopefully no more whammies in 2024 🤞🏻⛵️
Check out how car windshield guys remove the butyl, usually scraping or oscillating blade I think. I love your lagoon 🥰
I love my multi-tool to get rid of the butyl, and I love Reboot too!
It gives you an error message that it is low of freon (or the work gas in the cooling system), and it has no recharge port. Cleaning the outer workings of the unit should have no effect on the internal pressure of the lines (compressor, expansion lines and collector). But those units do look small enough to be taken out and perhaps taken to an HVAC shop where they can tap into the system, check the pressure, recharge it and leave you a recharge/check valve for any further problem/repair. Take some pictures, find a HVAC shop and ask. All they can say is no, and you are not any worse off seeing it would be removed anyway. They might even be able to do it in the boat. (Had a very old chest freezer which after many years had no gas charge, and was able to find a service to recharge it)
That is worth a try, I'll check it out, thanks!
Do you think I can save this? Let me know in the comments
สวัสดีครับ
Hello back and welcome aboard!
What would you do if you found strangers on your boat?
How do you think your doggo would do onboard?
Do stingrays scare you too? Would you stay in the water?
If you were cooking on a boat, what do you think you would do differently?
Have you ever had a bird land on you?
Have you been onboard an Aventura 37? What did you think?
Good Job, hope at the end all was tight.
Like a glove! Frankly I was surprised that I got them all right on the first try 😁
@@RebootTheCatamaran let me finish my first and I’ll share the result. Beside this, i agree it is terrible work.
Nice, I like detailed videos about repairs. Thanks very much
@@bigpistol2 you’re welcome! I try to make videos that I can’t find how to’s on or if I could improve them. These hatches have been driving me crazy for a while.
To thaw bacon quickly, put it in a skillet with a little more than 1/4 cup of water and a lid on. Bring to a boil, the steam will thaw the bacon quickly. Open and move the pieces apart after a couple of minutes of steaming. When it's all apart, open the lid and let the water boil off, keep cooking and moving the bacon every now and then till it's to your liking (done). I've cooked bacon this way on my dad's Pearson 39-2, and in my kitchen when I didn't have any thawed. It works a treat.
That is an awesome way to do it, thank you! I’ll try it next time 👏
Absolutely stunning 🎉

Good old Maps.... don't need tech, still practised on even the most advanced vessels large or small🤔😉
we have some backup paper maps just in case 🗺️
Its because mommy loves you honey♥️
I love him so much ❤
Solphins can be so loving. They can also be ass holes I don't blame you
Kind of like people 😳
Dolphins could really hurt him if they decided to. Even drown him. It would depend on his luck.. and the personality of those actual dolphins he encountered.
I think you’re right; they are awesome creatures but unpredictable
Yeah, best stay on the boat buddy. One day it might be a dolphin with super sharp teeth!
I think their teeth are shaped like cones, but I’ve seen them take off with a fish on a line - really strong jaws!
@@RebootTheCatamaran I actually meant the dolphins with sharp teeth that you or I would refer to as sharks but a dog probably wouldn’t differentiate from a dolphin. I mean it’s grey and it’s in the water!
Mom is right, you are too precious.
He is the sweetest dog I’ve ever known
Smart mom. ❤ It's not worth the risk. You can't undo 'died for stupid'
He’s chased a deer far into the woods before, so I don’t know if he’d do the same with a dolphin. One of the scariest things ever to see your normally super obedient dog see a deer for the first time and decide he’s Rambo 😳
Nobody should be swimming with those marine rapists
Given what dolphins do to eachother and other ocean animals I think the call to stay on board is best! 😅😅😅
I have heard some stories!
no bc they could accidentally brake the dogs bones with their tails
They are incredibly strong, for sure
Mum knows best
😌
Dolphins seem to love swimming with dogs, and vice versa!
I have seen it on videos, they both look like they’re having fun
I'd be afraid that a shark would get you ❤❤
I’m not gonna lie, I am afraid of sharks. There are precautions to take that keep him as safe from sharks as we are when we’re in the water (he’s never in the ocean without us). Certain times of day we don’t swim, and we check around the boat first for aggressive species like bull sharks.
I've learnt a lot about dolphins and i wouldn't want to swim with them.
I’ve…heard a few things as well 😳
No dolphins are not safe. They are horrible terrifying creatures that got the teddy bear treatment.
I think that the truth is somewhere in the middle. People anthropomorphize them and give them positive or negative human characteristics, but they’re really just big, smart wild creatures
I had my Irish setter with me when I sailed I always had to tie him down because he wanted to bird the ducks he was funny that way
So beautiful! ❤😊
He is 😍
momma knows best❤
Most of the time ☺️
No
Sweet❤ ur a Standard poodle & a bird dog! 😅
They are super versatile. Plus they don’t smell and they don’t shed and that’s great onboard!
Dolphins are cute and all, ut still wild. They will attack an animal as soon as befriend it.
I think the unpredictability is the biggest issue
Good boy. You follow mommy’s advice, Sweetie.
He’s pretty good about that 👏
Not all dolphins are friendly....they have been known to attack humans and probably other animals also.
I’ve read that some fishermen have hurt dolphins that have taken their catch from a line, so not all dolphins feel positive towards humans (for good reason)
Mom knows best. Wherever dolphins swim, so can 🦈 ..
Sharks are everywhere; you just have to take precautions and don’t go in when they’re hunting or around the boat. Bull and tiger sharks are the only real concern for us. The rest of them are ok
Yes
