Hi! I got 5 cuttings from the street and they grew roots but all the leaves turned green. I went back where I found them to see if I could chop another with the variegation but they were all green too. Do you have any trick to make the variegation come back when it's all green? PD: sorry for my English, I'm not a native speaker

I'm guessing this is a common issue for this plant. I just got to your video because I am researching the same problem on mine. I bought my seeds from Florida (I live in the Netherlands though). I grew them in a propagator tent with led light and moved them in front of the window when they were bigger. I have 5 in front of a south facing window and one by a north facing window. Humidity in my house is good because I have a lot of plants in my house. But they are also loosing their leaves in conditions that other plants are perfectly happy in. I don't get it. I thought I was doing something wrong but apparently they are just prone to this issue. What I also noticed is that these plants flower like crazy, how is that with yours?

Have just ordered my seeds, also in the UK. Hoping for the best.

I've successfully able to grow the purple variety from seeds. I didn't wait for the seeds to dry, i used the fresh green seeds and dropped these into the soil and after several weeks they grew!!! I'm still waiting for my green Christia Obcordata to bear flowers do that i can then have seeds to propagate,..

I just purchased on here in California. The plant shop I frequent had a large lot of 2” ones to purchase so I figured I’d try my hand at one since they’re so beautiful. Thank for sharing your insight on growing and caring for them. It’s been 2 years since you recorded your video and there’s still very little info about their care/growth/propagation online. Any updates?

Can i just transfer my entire plant into Water & LECA only?

There are literally no videos on alternanthera in water out there....thanks for this....i cut a stem and put it in water+leca, its happy and green!

Mine is green and legy...what can I do?

I tried this and idk why but it's not working and I'm even using tiny little 2ml 3ml 4ml even but its been 4 days maybe 5 and nothings growing..I have 3 starter plants and they all are very big and I'm scared to repot them before I get propagated at least 2. Any suggestions?

I'm glad I found this video. I'm experiencing similar challenges with yours. They are easy to propagate via cuttings instead of growing it from seeds. However the yellowing/mottling is very bothersome that someone thinks it has mosaic virus. I will transition one of the cuttings to leca with water reservoir and lets see.

What is that plant behind you on the left?

These plants are in the Fabaceae Family ( legumes).These are heavy organic fertilizer feeders. The soils needs to be well draining but moist at all times or the plant will drop leaves or crisp if left to dry out. They loved to trellis and so do well and thrive with netting or staking. The prefer alkaline soil. The need a min 4-6 hrs of indirect light a day and can live inside with artificial full spectrum lighting. Too much light will bleach them out, make them drop leaves or make them Crisp. I hope this helps. Many just trim off the dead leaves. I'd say it will do much better if you trellis it and fertilize it regularly. It also helps too add quite a bit of pumice to peat moss or potting soil.

So lovely to see a day in the life! I've been feeling stuck in a rut with my plants too as a lot of them had stopped growing through winter. Starting to see the new growth coming through makes my heart so happy! Xx

I read on a blog this was a method. . . cold startle or something. This is the first I have seen someone confirm this. I lost my variegation since I started with one stem cutting. I have since bushed it up so the small pot it’s in is looking very full, but without variegation. I think it is time to try the cold. Thanks for your tip and information.
