How ridiculous ? Must have been casual Friday
Must have been my drinking days?! I remember the shirt 😂
Good question : what song did he play before this ?
What a baby face he had!
He looks like saw a ghost here!
last 20 minutes the best!
last 20 minutes the best!
I’ve always had a theory about bass players. They hate the guitar 🎸?
This is his friendship outfit 🎉
He disappeared back stage 😂
Wait - was I there? Ask my PA
went to a similar show to this in 2004 (Webster Hall, NYC); before Continuum, when John was first embracing that people would watch him jam the blues on the guitar for hours. it was incredible, and he brought out a couple blues players to jam with, along with playing some old Jimi Hendrix and SRV lesser known tracks. it was a wonderful evening, and also made me realize i should just quit guitar lol. as someone who had followed John's every move since early 2001, i was eagerly awaiting for him to just let loose on the guitar and i was supremely satisfied with this show. we all bore witness to the beginning of John Mayer "the guitar legend" and it was a special evening, much like this small Atlanta show. it marked the beginning of an era that we are still in today.
INSANEEE
Heard that JM wanted a flute in the band, but there wasn't budget.
What year was this ?
hint hint
he told her he'd record it - maybe. She never watched it tho--- busy ....
Imagine my own best friend was invited and didn't go ?
Like a grownup
I have a day job sorry!
Whern was thiiss??
Ok I need that t shirt, someone please tell me where to find it hahaha
This genuinely is one of the most insane JM performances I have seen
No one were listening to the music.
Love both those dudes smokin cigs
Read somewhere that this bar is what inspired S. O. B. Rock
Bro has to be sauced 😂
My band played here last April and seeing him on the same stage I played on is such a cool feeling
Amazing video! What camera was this shot on?
I’m pretty positive was the panasonic ag-dvx100.
What year??
one thing i admire about Johnny is that he spends time in the studio most everyday. It's who he is. he got through the initial fame and girls and maybe drugs and is solid in his identity and loves making music. seeing him next to Bob Weir is so damn cool. i look forward to his new tunes!!!!!
ok obi hk
u may enter@@davevebber9082
And also 5+ years commitment on sober🔥
The feeling of this Men is amazing
Maybe one of the last video recordings of John tuning his own guitar. 😂 great stuff.
when was this recorded?
August 2004
Definitely born to be a star.
This is awesome, I’ve played there many times cool seeing this footage from him there
Even back then he had a badass tone on his guitar.
Most certainly in the fingers!
The Two Rock in the back doesnt hurt but he's got the mojo for sure in those fingers
Back when he was feeling himself and letting it rip
Even more badass than now if you ask me
@@chenjunhao I agree. It might just be in my head but I still don't "get" the PRS sound. I prefer the sounds he got from the Fender strat.
Thanks for sharing this!
Anyone know who is the drummer? The base player looks like DaLa.
It's JJ Johnson and DeLa
@@ryanp9624 thank you!!
this is the fender 64........
I believe this is actually his SRV signature with a tortoise shell pickguard
@MikeODandy I actually think this is his JM signature. The string tree higher and it doesn't have the SRV gold hardware. Also there's no sticker on the back of the headstock he slapped onto his SRV strat. I think you can see his signature on the back.
@@The_Dude360 oh neat. I’ve never noticed him actually playing that before.
@MikeODandy I'm not sure how much he used it especially once he got his 64, but if you're familiar with Where the Light Is - he uses it for Heart of Life on that DVD.
He talked about this guitar in a studio session for Paradise Valley. He saved money from his job at the gas station to buy that guitar and it went with him to Berklee.
I've never seen him actually letting loose like this. Great clip! Thanks!
It's the strat
@@julianf2677😂
Thanks for this 🙏🏻
Wow!!! Very nice thank you for posting this ❤
An amazing piece of John Mayer’s history and Americana too. I love it. I love him too
Earliest iteration of JM3 before he made it an official thing and upgraded at drums and bass!
The coolest guy on the planet
JJ johnson and Dela on cigar rare sighting
He da fuckin beast in the guitar world
Wow! Did you ever recover the rest of the footage from this concert? That would be amazing!
No, sorry. I went through most of my old tapes during the pandemic and it didn’t turn up. Not sure what happened.
@@jcbp64 Aww... there's, like, almost no footage of 2004 john, it would've been legendary to have seen it.
Shows you that we all gotta start somewhere haha
He had just played a sold out show at Lakewood Amphitheater, so he was already pretty huge. This was a free late night show at Smith’s just for fun. The beauty of the boundless energy of youth.
@@jcbp64 Im talking about his playing. he is over playing every solo almost and his prhasing is very crude compared to his playing now
