There are dozens of channels on TH-cam for the DiYer. There are carpentry DiY channels, automotive DiY channels, cooking DiY channels, etc, etc. But ... there is no single channel that I am aware of where a TH-camr can find DiY instructions in a broad range of topics. I am and have always been a jack of all trades and master of none. Well ... almost none. If I have a problem, the first thing I do is research the solution. If it's even remotely possible without a doctorate degree, I will attempt to fix the problem myself.
Which brought me the idea of this channel. From spoiler installs, to storm shutter design, construction, and installation. I have tons of ideas for DiY projects that I have either done or want to do. And I want to share them with you. If you are interested, please subscribe and then feel free to share with me your wants. This could be fun.

2013 Ford Taurus 3.5 Jumping Timing (HELP!)
Started with a Cam Position Sensor Correllation code. CPS swap didn't do anything and the car progressed over just a week or two to catastrophic time jump, bent valves etc. Compression on 1-6 cylinders was roughly 130-130-130-70-0-110. So ... 4,5,6 was bad, particularly 5. Camera showed 3/16 gap and no movement on #5 intake valves.
So, two weeks and a head later (Thank you to Clearwater Cylinder Heads) It's back together and running but with a bad/rough idle same as before. And after a week of driving, it had jumped two links again. I'm going to do another compression test tomorrow to compare front(new) and back(old) heads. I'm thinking that maybe 130 psi, while all the same on 1-3 would seem odd for bent valves etc, but maybe 130 is bad and I've got damage to the rear head?

EZVIZ - Review of C1C and C3WN wireless cameras and a brief word of caution
มุมมอง 7484 ปีที่แล้ว
This is a brief review of these EZVIZ cameras as well as a gripe (word of caution) that I have about setting them up. Overall I'm satisfied with the cameras and their features but I forgot to mention two features: 1) Two-way audio feature for both cameras. Both cameras have the feature to hold a conversation with minimal lag (but will obviously depend on connection/speeds. 2) C3WN comes with a ...

My main trigger for making this video happened today but let me back up a year … I bought a 512GB thumb drive in order to backup a PS4. When I installed the thumb drive I immediately noticed an executable file had been previously installed (on my brand new thumb drive). Luckily I knew better than to click the file and immediately formatted the drive, which never did work right and was only a fr...
DELL orange light. Won't wake up from SLEEP.

There are tons of boards, discussions, videos on Dell Orange light of death (OLOD) and other orange light problems. I've put some minimal effort over the years into resolving this but recently tackled it. The issue is outdated BIOS settings that won't talk right to the Windows 10 operating system. Just say NO to Dell Computers - Why I'm done with Dell Computers

After repairing the Dell 2305 and/but having a melted plastic plug on the motherboard I decided to purchase a Dell 3452 Inspiron One. It was trouble free for 4-5 years until it recently crashed. Frustratingly, Dell refuses to sell me tech support. Several hours of troubleshooting and a $28 SSD drive later (thanks Best Buy) I'm back up and running. At least now I know Dell has written me off and...
Jeep Wrangler JK (3.8L) Misfire Part 1
มุมมอง 23K5 ปีที่แล้ว
Initial problem was a P0300 (random misfire), C121C (Torque Request Denied), and a Catalyst error (don't recall exactly which one). So first things first, we have a history of damaged plug wires (because of crappy stainless headers) and I did in fact have another melted wire so I replaced the plug wire on number 4. When that didnt work, I then replaced plugs after seeing that one was bad and af...
Jeep Wrangler 3.8 Valve Cover Gasket Replacement (OIL LEAK)

This is a follow up to my other Crankshaft Seal Replacement video. After climbing under to perform an oil change, I noticed a lot of fresh oil present on the bottom and in the vicinity of the bell housing. I replaced the intake gaskets a few months ago and noticed then that the valve cover gaskets appeared to be leaking. So ... I purchased the valve cover gaskets (with O-rings) and performed th...

2 Updates: 1) The power button will in fact do at least two things, flash orange or being lit steady orange. 2) I would recommend, with all plastics (wires, etc) moved out of the way, to hold the heat gun on longer. How to Plug a Flat Tire

First things first, I can count on one hand the number of times I've done this so don't think "Man, this guy's supposed to be good at this, I won't be able to do it". 2007-2011 Jeep Wrangler JK (3.8L) Crankshaft Seal Removal and Install

If you have an early JK (07-11) with the 3.8L V6, you have more than likely experienced the loss of oil. You aren't burning it because there is no smoke and the crazy thing is that you see little to no oil on your driveway. You've probably been told it's your oil pan gasket because it's covered in oil and that there was an issue with porosity on the timing chain cover. But ... the problem is th...

Chevy Silverado 5.3L with AFM MBRP Exhaust Rattle ... BEWARE!!

2013+ Nissan Altima 2.5 Sea Foam Treatment How-To
มุมมอง 23K8 ปีที่แล้ว
As I prepared to do a SeaFoam treatment on my 2014 Altima I looked for how-to steps (specifically which vacuum line to use) but no video existed. Plenty of videos of Maxima's though with the completely different motor. So I made a command decision and decided to film it as best as I single-handedly could and here you have it.
Dang good video. Thank you!
I wonder how much it costs and how long it takes to replace a valve cover pad
By "pad" what do you mean? Gasket? It's cheap and relatively quick to do yourself. A shop would probably run a few hundred for 2--3 hours of work plus parts. Just a swag.
@@shawn2742 It's a gasket. Doesn't pad mean a gasket,Can you change engine parts yourself?
Im give this a trying I think I'm not heating it up enough
this has to be the worst video I've ever watched
unfortunately...all I was able to see was a red t-shirt and some hair.. and poor light awful video...
I hope you find happiness in life Eddy. You're a classy dude who deserves it.
everyone deserve happiness, I don't understand your comment, I'm sorry if my opinion upsets you I wish you made it better but in the most part of it you placed the camera in a angle that didn't help or served the purpose of it...anyways thank you for your cynical comment.@@shawn2742
Do not bake it.!!! It is highly unlikely that the solder joints came undone
With all due respect Mike, the "phenomena' of solder joints reflowiing and improperly cooling, which leaves air gaps and cracks in the joints is called a "cold joint" and is very likely. It actually happens all the time in consumer electronics. You are incorrect.
Change the thermal paste to get the heat away from the board
@shawn this may be a dumb question but do I need to drain the oil before attempting this replacement?
No dumb questions, that's the only way to learn. No, the oil is all sitting in the pan at this point and the centerline of the Crankshaft is well above.
@@shawn2742 awesome, thanks!
Where's the link to the other guys videos?
I'm guessing I said I'd link to something? I apologize but I have no idea, it's been a while. On another note, I'm about to tear the entire engine out to have it rebuilt so stay tuned.
@@shawn2742 Yes you were going to link a video. That showed how the other guy did the head gasket on his. Looking forward to the new videos. Bought a 2009 JKU today with 117K perfect condition.
Thanks, yuu help me to publish the Seal in a Web. ;)
I had a random misfire on my 3.8 jk and it ended up being the coil pack.
Am experiencing the same issue but tomorrow am getting it fixed
I still think his issue is the phasers but haven't done it yet (dreading pulling off the timing chain, etc). What are your symptoms, rough idle, any codes? Let me know how it goes and what the outcome or final diagnosis is.
you need to zoom in your video to dark cant really see what your doing
I found the easiest way to Sea Foam on a 2013 Nissan Altima is though the PVC Hose on top of the engine.
Hi I been struggling with this could you please post a video on this through pcv valve
It could be a good video if you work from underneath and the camera recording from the top. You didn’t let me see what you did; your hand, shoulder and head were on the way 80% of the time; the other 20% was only darkness.
I don't disagree. One of if not the first video that I did. I'm not a videographer but will definitely try to improve going forward (and have a whole engine tearout coming).
I just looked at a 2011 wrangler today with 41000 miles and noticed some oil around the #2 spark plug but there was no other signs of leaks below and no other leaks anywhere. No ticking noise so I'm thinking it's just the valve cover gasket. I hope
They look really good not damaged 🤦 0.03 > 0.09 .. what specs run 😅🤫🤭🤔
Check for a vacuum leak
Without a smoke machine I've sprayed every hose and nook and cranny with brake cleaner. No indication at all that it's sucking air anywhere.
@@shawn2742Hi just bought son 2013 and same issues. Did you ever figure it out?
Is this the rear main seal?
No, opposite end of crank. This is on front behind the pulley.
@@shawn2742 thx so much
Dude you really need to use a tripod. You have the shakes. I can't watch this. It is making my seasick.
Dude, thanks for the feedback.
This a issue with the exhaust or AFM?
Exhaust welds breaking and the muffler rattling itself apart? Muffler issue. The shudder from AFM contributed but I won't accept that drive train vibrations should cause a muffler to fall apart. Neither did MBRP, but all they wanted to do was keep offering me replacements that I kept having to get welded in.
Thank you for the help my brotha👌
No problem 👍
where's the update
Coming soon .... as well as a full rebuild.🥺
THANK YOU!!! My son was pretty bummed when this went out, but I felt like a hero with this easy fix! 😊
You are very welcome. Just note that the design flaw still exists and it will more than likely reoccur.
Is your car throwing a P0016 or P0346 code? P0016 is Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation Bank 1 Sensor A. P0346 is Camshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Range / Performance Bank 2. I have a 2010 Ford Taurus that still currently runs. It has just under 80k miles and have a rough idle and it’s throwing both codes. Mine just had the oil changed like a week before the check engine light came on. Also appears to be a little low on coolant, but no apparent leak on the exterior of the engine. I know these 3.5 V-6’s they like to put the water pump in the engine internally and people have had issues with the gaskets failing on them. Sometimes when it fails it will leak out of the weep hole or so they call it. Other times I’ve heard that coolant has also leaked internally into the engine. Bought the car just a few months back from a dealer and thought I got a good deal after everything checked out. Now I’m thinking otherwise with some of the issues I’m seeing. Did you guys get your problem figured out?
Apologies for the delay. I honestly don't recall but I'm 99% sure that the word Correllation was in the code. That being said, fingers crossed that you're not heading down the same road. It jumped time within a few weeks of the first symptoms and they are interference engines as I probably mentioned in the video.
Sounds exactly like my 08 but i never had over heating problems. 5 previous owners before me and in 2021 i got it and had only right at 100k. Someone had let it set but i got it reasonably cheap from a dealer. Well. Now its just setting in my yard and definitely needed this video so compression test is coming. They sure knew what they was doin when they quit making the 4.0’s. Bahah. Never will buy another one of these junky things with these motors they are putting in em
130 psi is too low, you should be around 180 psi !
"Easy to take off" - I hope and pray it will hold true for me to say. Just watching all videos before i attempt my own project. Thank you for sharing. P.S. Upper pan gasket replacement stopped the beading of oil like you've shown in the beginning.
Same issue with my 08…misfire 4…need to do this compression test
How'd it go?
I have driven my 07 JK 434k miles. Went to salvage yard and bought metal valve covers off a 2003 town & county mini vans 3.8L engine. Fits on 07 JK. Will have to modify PCV hose. Plastic is junk.
You’re absolutely insane. Did you really just say 434 THOUSAND miles??
Just put it in the crankcase and gas tank. No problems
The throttle body is so hard to reach. So I just slip the tube through from the other end of the hose, the end near maf sensor. I don’t think it will do as a good job as to spray it right on to the throttle. But lots of white smoke did come out.
Which way do you spray? Down towards the intake or brake booster?
@@ramchapa11 downwards to the throttle body’s direction. I don’t know where is the brake booster
I think your dog wants something
what a ridiculous video. I'm going to send this to Louis Rossman.
Hi, If the blue circular light of Power cable doesn't glow, and PC doesn't start.. Does it mean there is issue with Mother board?
My thought would be that you're power supply is bad. I'd start there.
Same shit is happening right now, did you fix it or go with another exhaust?
I wish I had better news, but I never fixed it and went with an oem replacement style "turbo muffler". I feel your pain.
Gotcha, thanks for the reply man 🤙🏼
Just letting you know...I read on another bid, an old timer suggested that carbon and stuck rings can sometimes be cleared by a slow stream of water through a hot engine. I had exactly the same symptoms as you. I'd priced up new NGK Iridium plugs, Mopar leads and new NGK coil pack 1000nzd.. I figured I'd give the steam clean a go first. I ran 1.5ltrs of water over 15min at 3500-400rpm after a good hot drive and then another hot drive. The difference is amazing. There were clouds of steamy soot where I did it splatters on the drive. After the run it's running the best it has in ages and the CEL is gone.
I don't doubt that at all. Makes sense and it's good advice. In my case, I think the damage was done to the cylinders from prolonged irregular wear and I can no longer get rid of Cyl4 misfire. The plan now is an actual motor rebuild (or LS swap). But since I'm still running (pretty good actually) it's on the back burner until the 93 stepside is done.
How do you run water through your engine
Jeeps, lol🙃
Very helpful i owned inspiron one 2205 and i follow this video and thats it. Its work 👍
Glad it helped, thanks for the feedback.
Did you ever get it fixed from the problems you were having with it. I also have a 2013 ford Taurus and it has the code p0017
Yes and no. So my situation ended in catastrophic contact damage with #4 intake valves so I ended up having to replace the driver/front side head and doing a full timing rebuild, all guides and tensioners. Note, it was cheaper to buy timing kit from parts.ford.com and pick up locally than to buy off eBay. The main tensioner from my ebay kit so I chased my tail for a little while because it kept jumping time after reassembly. So today, it still rough idles. The problem is that I can't diagnose which cam phaser is bad (root cause) without "the computer" and it's not worth taking to a tech for a several hundred dollar diagnosis so with a continued code and a rough idle, it is what it is.
I found the front oil seal leak the same way you did, when I added Sea Foam. Usually, oil additives bloat or swell up seals and reduce oil leaks. Sea Foam did the opposite. Like you, Sea Foam turned my minor oil seepage turned into puddles on the floor. Your video did help me to isolate the source to the front seal. My 3.8L v-6 is in a Grand Caravan; so, it's mounted sideways. After removing the front wheel and wheel cavity shield, it was easy to get to the belt tensioner, harmonic balancer and replace the oil seal.
That’s the same engine as the Dodge Caravan/Chrysler Town and Country. It’s the same procedure. Please use a harmonic balance puller. Auto Zone is a place to rent these tools….don’t use framer’s hammer on auto work…😏
Hammering on a harmonic balancer? Pulling it on with the bolt? PLEASE everyone use correct installer!!
Use the proper Pulley installation tool so that you don't damage the crankshaft threads.
Will a hair drier work?
Sorry, it will not. A hairdryer doesn't get anywhere near being hot enough.
This could have been a really helpful video if there had been some light.
By the looks of all that carbon on your top end you need to replace that PVC and install a catch can to keep some of that crap from your values and pistons
I try to always use FelPro but that being said I really don't know that it matters much. Many times these products come from the same assembly lines. It's not a difficult enough job that I'd dread redoing it down the road if and when the gaskets fail again.
what brand valve cover gasket did you use? I see the Ultra Power Gasket on Rock Auto. It is the same blue color.
Fel-Pro
I thought you where gonna say the Dealer called . And said to stop modding the Jeep 😅..✌🏼
Modding? Who's got time to mod when you can barely keep them running!?
