It's important that we help our clients define what the adaptive response to be given the inherent stressors. So start at the end and define what that outcome's gonna look like, feel like, sound like, be like future template with multiple challenges so that the work is as robust as it can be given the inherent stressors of the client's context.

    First, listen to your client if they are willing to go to their memories. Like Phil manfield wrote in his paper about Flash many therapists themselves are afraid to go to clients memories, not the client.

    I suppose this is great for working on childhood trauma...I'm looking for a for of therapy for a person who had severe traumas at adulhood life...attemted murder and a couple of years later rape...the person is male. I don't think talking therapy will go deep enough.

    I have CPTSD and have been trying EMDR since talking to people isn’t my thing. All I get from it is feeling extremely agitated and wanting to put my fist through the wall.

    What about false memories? Can EMDR make a client think of false memories? How would that work?

      Maybe therapist could ask about the image of the worst part of the false memory, and the significance this has for you. The memory is false, the impact and meaning it has for you is true.
