Cook w/ me as a Cambridge Student ~ How meal prep SAVED me!
มุมมอง 1.6K11 หลายเดือนก่อน
Hey everyone! This week's video is a cook with me! I absolutely adore cooking up a feast in the kitchen, but this year I simply do not have the time to be cooking a homemade meal from scratch every evening. Sooooo, much to the annoyance of my flatmates, I spent two days meal prepping my arse off and stocking the freezer full of vegan batch-cooked goodies. And present-day me is so thankful for p...

มุมมอง 1.2K11 หลายเดือนก่อน
Hello hello hello! It's been far too long for my liking but I've been hit with 4th Year madness (the degree is actually quite low-key this year but I've got a tonne of extra curriculars going on) alongside a lovely chest infection - both of which have knocked me out for a few weeks. Anywayyyyy here's a vlog from back in June. My friends and I attended the Jesus College May Ball as a last party ...

Vlogging my final exams at the University of Cambridge ~ 3rd Year Medical Student [OC]

Hey hey hey! This video was a while in the making because the ridiculous amount of whispering in the first half of the video led to me putting open captions over everything. Very time-consuming to edit - but hopefully you'll actually be able to understand what I'm trying to say in the whispering parts! :) Looking back a month later it's still mad to me that I've completed a whole "degree"! Hi everyone!! I'm back, and ready for a summer full of videos for you all to (hopefully) enjoy 🥰 The first post-exam video is all about what I've been up to this year, as well as all the inside knowledge on the medical degree course structure at Cambridge. Hi everyone! This video should hopefully give you all a little bit of insight into what's been taking up my headspace recently :) There's not currently much media coverage about the UCU strikes, but as a soon-to-be graduating student I can tell you wholeheartedly they have had an impact - though so far the impact has been more on students than on pay :'( My fingers and toes are crossed that the...

hello! is the reflective diary and activity log practically the same thing?
Hey! Do you think it's possible to get into Cambridge med with chem, bio and english lit at A-Level? Thinking about doing Maths as well in my gap year. I'm also doing an EPQ and got 6 9s out of 8 at GCSE with extenuating circumstances. Just checking in to see whether you think it's possible :)
Do you have any advice on what to do when your art teacher doesn’t want to give the students sketchbooks? I’m a year 10 GCSE art student and I am really confused and kind of upset because I am aiming for a 9 but I don’t understand how I’m supposed to get a 9 when I don’t have a sketchbook to give me that 80% of my grade.

Is it possible for me to get into oxford or cambridge for medicine with only one 9 in physics and an 8 in chem bio math and religious education?

My dream studying in Cambridge ❤❤❤
about to go Cambridge, I am dreading how expensive Cambridge is going to be!
love love this!!!!
you're so underrated !!!
What were our headings for your reflective diary ?
Going into year 11 in 3 weeks and I really need to crack down on what I’m doing. My teacher absolutely adores my work but I’m realising now I should have bought an A3 sketchbook and not stuck with the A4 I was given because I do so much my book is too thick and I can’t bring it anywhere. I also haven’t done any of my final pieces but I’m starting tomorrow! I just wish I wasn’t such a procrastinator. I’m also realising I’ve done absolutely nothing to show how I’ve gotten to my final pieces but I will add them in the back of my book to at least show how I’ve gotten there. I’m predicted an A* but I want it to stick.
Tip: get a folder You can do A3 pieces outside your book just make sure you have your name on them and make sure to keep them safe
watching for inspo en route to ikea 🤩🤩
omg SLAY i cannot WAIT to see what you do with the place!! i'm so so excited for you both!! xox
omg nooo i have just rewatched like two mins of this and now i'm embarrassed this is actually such a cringe video lol, hope you found some inspo nonetheless xx
I watched this twice! I wonder if u think I can make this in halls kitchen with everyone else around? Im moving next year ❤️ Edit: moving to wolfson 🙏🏼
Cambridge is my birth city and I work there😊 lovely to see it from another perspective, you captured the old sites so well😊❤
dude i have my art mock in a week and I'm redoing my entire book thank you so much
Thank you so much for the video, I followed the method you used for your EPQ, creating a similar Google Drive. IT WAS SO USEFUL thank you so so so much! I scored 47/50 and received an A*!
I've been to Kew Gardens as well!
Heyy, I really love you content, you are sooooo nice and probably super busy, so you don’t have to answer but I am super lost right now because I am doing a level 1. year about 6months in and I kind of dont want to do anything at Uni with the subjects I chose at a levels and I don’t know if it is possible or smart to switch right now. I really like physics and science things and I was really good doing them but for some reason I chose the most random subjects at a level math business and art which is like absolutely not my direction heeeeeeeeelp can I get accepted into a normal Uni and do something with physics I feel so stupid for taking the wrong subjects what was going on in my head like genuinely
Thank you so much, the only video I every needed for the epq!!
Life of poo
Hi Lou, I am currently writing my EPQ, and my question is how technology has been enchanced in biomedical engineering, and im struggling to make it to 5000 words. Do you have any tips please xx
Really hope that I secure funding and get to be here soon. Lovely video ❤
Hi! please can you explain how to take Cornell notes? thanks :)
Hello, i was wondering if you could maybe further explain the connect extend and challenge part of your plan? It seems very helpful but i seem to be struggling to find any conflicting sources 😢
Also! How many sources for you recommend? Ive gone for around 12 main sources and then im using others for like fact checking and general figures (my EPQ is about space exploration and like its financing with public opinions)
your pieces are so good consistently throughout, so how did you manage your time and maintain motivation? btw I'm in yr ten :)
Hey, i'm currently doing my EPQ and I was wondering what titles/headings have you done for the reflective diary as I need to get started on one ASAP. 🙂
hi lou!! i just wanted to say a massive thank you for providing this and the google drive - i've been so daunted about starting my epq but this has given me such a confidence boost! i was also just wondering what exam board you did your epq for? thank you so much again! <3
Hi there! Awh thank you SO SO much for writing out such a lovely comment <3 Made my day :) I'm so pleased you found this video helpful - EPQ is certainly quite a daunting and overwhelming thing to get started with, so I totally know where you're coming from! My EPQ was with the OCR exam board - hope that helps! x
the link to the OCR spec is here if you want to compare it with other exam boards - www.ocr.org.uk/qualifications/projects/extended-project-h857/
thank you so much!!@@life_of_lou
This video is a 'quick one' but the level of effort this includes and inspo and help this provides is off the chartssss! 🎉🤩
gah BLOSSOM ilysm <3 <3 biggest fan (and I am yours!) So pleased you think it'll help ppl - that is 100% the goal of this channel! xx
This is very impressive and inspiring!
Thank you so much, that's really kind of you! x
Good luck!
Thank you so much! x
Adulting to a budget and not a mention of Hello bloody Fresh. Bravo! You haven't factored in gas/electric cost or time taken out of your busy schedule to shop & prep but still looks cost effective. Me? Tin of soup and a banana!
Awh hehehe yep no Hello Fresh/ready meals around here! I know that lots of people use services like that to save time and mental load, so I'm definitely privileged to be able to cook completely from scratch fairly easily - each to their own I suppose :) You are quite right about the electricity bill, but as I'm still living in college accommodation that comes out of a separate bill combined with my rent, so I sadly don't know *quite* how much it costs per minute etc. :( Would probably bump the cost up quite a bit! And you can't go wrong with soup - especially at this chilly time of year!
Hi I am a student who is completing my gcse art early, the topics i have done is 1 full sketchbook on natural forms and spirals then the 2nd topic is confectionary do you think i should mount my confectionary things in another book or should i put them on boards to get top marks? I have also only got 2 A3 big pieces do you think thats enough for the whole thing? any help is much appreciated! thank you :)
Hi there! Thank you so much for watching my videos and for reaching out :) I've just been checking the video comments, so sorry it's taken me a couple of weeks to get back to you! Really impressive to do the art GCSE early, definitely understand how you feel about not knowing the best way to present things! I will say that the marks usually come from the art itself rather than the presentation. Nice presentation is just a good way to make the examiners like you a little bit more, but in theory it shouldn't affect the marks much, if at all! Back when I sat my GCSEs boards weren't really a thing but I know they're much more popular these days. If you think boards would work well to tie similar concepts and ideas together then maybe go for that? But if you prefer having a book to flick through that ties the whole project together in one place then stick with a book! I think it's definitely up to personal preference tbh (I'm definitely a book fan, they're so much more practical and portable!) In terms of the size, I would say a few more big A3 pieces won't hurt as they show you can work on "final piece" scale (most proper artists work bigger on large canvases so if you want to give the impression that you can keep up with their level then bigger might be better!). Hope that all helps! Good luck and if you have any more questions do drop me a message/comment! xx
Hi thank you soo much yes its really helpful :) The chosen topic for this theme is celebrations and i wanted to study chinese new year but i dont really know what artist do that do u have any ideas? Thanks again :)@@life_of_lou

I think British universities have it right. I didn't turn 21 until my senior year. There was a nice pub on the bottom floor of the student union, supported by student fees. Yet, under 21's were not even allowed on that floor (even though we paid for it). I never lived in college, i lived at home for undergrad and then my parents bought me a house when I went away to grad school. There was not a partying culture, but I did get a lot of studying done!
I do feel incredibly lucky to have had such a fun experience at university so far, I've had the most amazing time :) I definitely should acknowledge how fortunate and privileged I am more than I do on this channel, and your very thoughtful comment has reminded me - so thank you very much! I hope you were still able to have a fun time at college regardless of the different culture, and can still look back with a degree fondness!
Hi Lou! I loved every minute of college (my major was molecular biology), (especially after we were allowed to use calculators and not slide rules!) Since most of us didn't know any different, the "norms" of the 1970s were just that, norms. My mom used to complain about how much better we had it that she did in nursing school in the 1930s! I would love to be able to start over in college, just to see how things have changed. If I had unlimited money, the instant I retired (which is coming in the next few years) - I would enroll in a nanosecond, although I'm not sure what I would study.@@life_of_lou

Hi Louisa, take care and keep vlogging! <3
thank you so much! that's a very kind comment :) <3
Wow I wouldn’t have enjoyed this if it were a regular student cooking but since you’re a CAMBRIDGE student, I’m transfixed.
haha thank you! Though i should say, whilst Cambridge is associated with lots of prestige, definitely do give my non-Cambridge peers a chance too! Lots of non-oxbridge students have great TH-cam channels :)
@@life_of_lou Mate, I hope you realize that I was mocking you. And if you did know, and this is your attempt at faux sincerity, it would be quite fitting, considering the patronizing Oxbridge graduates I've met.
ah sorry jeff, my mistake - i thought you were trying to be nice actually! you are 100% free to not watch/comment/subscribe and dislike my videos if you find me patronising @@jeffbronson3696
@@life_of_lou yes but I wasn't free from seeing your video pop up in my reccomendations and I wasn't free from feeling cringe from just reading your title. I wasn't free from seeing that yet another person tied their identity to their elite university.
@@jeffbronson3696 ah well, no obligation to read this - but for anyone else wondering: there were a couple of reasons for me to write "Cambridge" in the title! 1. Oxbridge colleges are usually catered-for, so students here don't usually cook (thus saving them time in the very short and busy 8-week terms). I personally choose to cook, largely because my college dining hall opening hours are limited to when I'm away on placement at the clinical school, and also to save a lot of money (our student loans don't go nearly as far in the current economic climate, and I don't rely on my parents for additional funds). However, doing so means that I risk wasting time cooking where other students rely on dining hall food. So meal prepping is significant to me, as a Cambridge student, because it allows me to cook without falling behind my peers in our short and busy terms (and yes, this is significantly different to how things work at non-oxbridge universities where the terms are much much longer/less intense overall). 2. As much as you may hate it, frankly, the algorithm does favour "Oxbridge" videos over non-Oxbridge videos. That is not to say I agree with this. I don't like that this is the reality. In my view, most of the best University TH-camrs out there are NOT from Oxbridge. BUT you can bet yourself I will be using the algorithm to my advantage, in case some of my content does make people happy/motivate aspiring Oxbridge applicants. Again, if you don't like Oxbridge content, you can block it from your algorithm. Don't let me stop you :) (3. Believe it or not, but I did actually work quite hard to get into Cambridge. So if I mention that I go to Cambridge, then that might be why! It has been my home for nearly four years, and I've loved my time here - so apologies for tying it to my identity a little bit, but I hope this somewhat clarifies that.) Thanks Jeff! Excellent opportunity for me to practice justifying myself to strangers on the internet :)
yum
hey!! I notice that your eisenhower grids just have epq tasks and I was wondering if I could put in tasks from all my subjects or would it be better to just do EPQ ? Thank you !!
hi there! you could absolutely include all the other things going on in your life if you wanted to! there's no limit to what you can/can't/should/shouldn't include :) it's totally up to you! I only included the EPQ stuff because that was what I felt was useful/relevant to me at the time, but it's really not that deep so don't worry too much about the contents of the grids. Marks will come from showing that you know how to use the grids rather than what the grids say specifically ! Hope that helps! x
