Acceptance is one of the six independent and interrelated behavioural processes in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. How do you teach it without just telling people what acceptance is? What is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)?
That sounded really good and important. Any chance for information for the people who only find this vid today?
What is a peer reviewed act trainer? I don’t know what peer review would mean in that context
Thanks so much for these videos, they're very useful. I'd love to see further videos of you implementing cognitive defusion exercises as well as other ACT processes.
very good but if you could speak a little slower.
The concept of creative hopelessness in ACT is powerful indeed: contextualconsulting.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Creative-Hopelessness-Russ-Harris.pdf Creative hopelessness is a concept in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). It refers to the realization that the strategies a person has been using to manage or eliminate their unwanted thoughts or feelings are not only ineffective but may actually exacerbate their problems. This realization can lead to a sense of hopelessness about the old ways of doing things, which in turn opens up space for new, more effective strategies. The 'creative' part refers to the idea that this hopelessness can be a catalyst for change.
This is so helpful, Jim! I find your delivery of ACT materials to be quite interesting and enticing ❤. In your groups where you teach and guide practitioners, your approach is accepting, patient, humble and so clear to understand! Thank you for everything.❤
Thank you I’m keen to learn skills and develop using the ACT approach within my PWP role , how do I sign up to the ACT community ? I do receive your open forwards updates
Hi Tracy...thanks for your interest. You can sign up here openforwards.mn.co
Thank you for your perspective. It really helped me. I will follow up on your book recommendations.
Good morning Dr gillard
Do clients often have a negative reaction to this exercise?
Short, succint and helpful. Thanks
Seems like a great opportunity for someone here. After experiencing Jim’s trainings I can highly recommend this - he’s been a big influence on my own practice. Good luck everyone.
Thank you, Stuart.
I still don't get it. Why is ACT so damn abstract? I get the questions but not the concept. It's a whole lot to ask of clients to think in these abstract terms
Thanks for sharing your reaction. I agree creative hopelessness isn't client-friendly language. I don't use it in conversation with them. I tend to help them compare their lived experience with what their mind tells them needs to be done. By doing so, people get better at putting unhelpful thinking to one-side and doing what works.
@@APTinACT that was super helpful, thank you!!
Thanks for the video Jim. Nice overview of the differences between traditional CBT and ACT. I hope the taster course goes well - I love how accessible ACT is and I hope people take this opportunity to learn more about it and how it can be helpful in their practice.
Thanks, Stuart. It's nice to hear from you. I just wanted to say that you are doing a great job with all the TH-cam videos you've been putting out. Keep going
You can register for this taster session at www.openforwards.com/act-training/act-courses/taster
This looks incredible! I am so sorry to only be learning about it now. Was it taped? May I purchase it?
Hello. You may be able to. Please check with www.acbsukroi.co.uk
I think that is what bothers me most about "better at feeling". It's contrary to my way of thinking. Although pain is layered when I avoid it. I have learned this the hard way. I still wobble back and forth with the working out of it daily.
Very good topic Thank you
Glad you liked it
Thank you a lot for this video, By the way if it's up to me I'll pick you as a James Bond's new replacement .
My wonderful testimony I've been suffering from genital Herpes for over 2years. I'm so grateful #driyonagbe on TH-cam channel for healing my genital herpes completely 🌱🌱🌱🌱🆓

Would like to see more videos
Thank you, great advice.
I was hoping you would drop a new video! Your videos are so helpful! Thank you!
Thanks, Joely. That's lovely to hear. I wish I had more time!
Just discovered this! Thank you!
Great video!
I really like some of the ideas here Jim. In particular something I will be taking away from your video is getting the person to 'feel' the costs of their behaviour. I think it is easy, as you pointed out, to fall into a very cognitive cost / benefit analysis. Thanks for this.
Looks really intriguing Jim! Nice preview too!
Hi Jim, these courses sound great. I particularly love this view (the 3 Rs) of functional analysis, and agree with the limitations of ABC. Looking forward to hearing more about it, I think this will be massively helpful moving forward.
Hi Stuart. It's great to hear from you. How you doing? Hope to see you there if not some time in the future. I've been watching your recent videos too...you're doing a great job mate
Very helpful explanation of this "tricky" word, in ACT. (currently learning with SDS/RH)
Wish you would produce more videos, this is high quality content for therapists!
That's kind of you. I've got some in the pipeline.
Thank you. Very helpful with my studies.
You're welcome
Thank you Jim for your videos! They are helping myself as a therapist and my clients. We need more of this.
That's wonderful. There are more on the horizon.
Great work Jim. Thank you for putting your time, energy and values into this. Very helpful :)
Thanks Richard. It's an interesting project to be working on.
A great summary Jim. Thank you for spending the time producing an easy to process explanatory series of videos.
Thx Mark. I'm glad it's helpful
Hi Jim, been following your videos these past few weeks, I think they're excellent, really informative, great for learning and understanding new concepts and consolidating older ones. Thank you, keep it up!
Thank you Jack. That's wonderful to hear. I appreciate the encouragement too.
Thank you for this video Jim. Very clear, concise and told me exactly what I needed to know to move forward with using this in practice. I especially liked the 5 questions to use in session. Thank you for your time and effort in putting this series together.
Thank you Bea. I appreciate the feedback and to learn what was most useful. It will help with future videos.
Excellent! Thanks Jim!
Great stuff - well done Jim! watched all 3 thus far over dinner at work, great job, sharing with Brisbane ACT Centre folks right now :)
Fantastic! I'm pleased you like them. More to come...
