Angel's memory video
I adopted Angel when she was one year old. I was traveling a lot for business, and my Amigo Jose agreed to help me train her and take care of her while I was on the road. Angel was a very sweet, calm, friendly, loving, smart, and loyal dog. In addition to Jose, Angel became everyone's favorite dog. I would joke that people came to my house to see Angel, not me. She would stay with me without a leash on bike rides or on the downtown Jacksonville bridge walk. She never bothered other people or other dogs, staying right by my side. She hated thunder and fireworks, and would go hide in the bathtub, but she loved to ride in cars and would sometimes jump in friends cars to hitch a ride. I adopted a stray kitten "Skedaddles" soon after we got Angel, and they were like sisters. Angel was so gentle with her, the cat was never scared. Then along came Milo, my friend Ashton's dog, and Angel and Milo became best friends. They learned from each other. Milo got more patient and loving, and Angel got more energetic and playful.
Just a few months shy of her 11th birthday, Angel was diagnosed with Lymphoma cancer. She passed away one month later. I am so blessed to have had Angel in my life these last 10 years. I am still in shock. Even though I knew it was coming. I am surprised how empty the house feels. She was such a calm and quiet dog, but she was always around. Day or night, upstairs or down, inside or out. Angel would be wagging her tail, looking expectantly for a pat on the head or a scratch behind the ear, or wanting to go on a car ride. I was thinking it will soon be 5 years since Dad passed away. I can’t believe he only knew Angel for half of Angel’s life. It makes our day-to-day problems seem so small when you view them in the context of a life-span. Life does go in circles. Elton John would say it is the circle of life. The sound track for this video features some of Angel's many friends from the First Coast Wind Symphony.

    I have a Gilbert era Missouri passenger consist pulled by a new LEGACY equipped PA A-B-A locomotive lashed-up. The PB is RailSounds equipped, but runs muted. The LEGACY system provides all sound effects. I have a nearly identical system in but with early Lionel made Union Pacific cars from the Pony Express set, plus additional car purchased separately. They are so gratifying when they run! I wish I had a 20’x30’ layout to run them on… Someday, perhaps I’ll add a Great Northern consist to my collection as long as I can hide it from the wife!. Lastly, I still have the original engines for both the Missouri and UP trains, along with Santa Fe and Rocket passenger trains. Everything is in running condition…. Thanks for sharing your wonderful video!

    I really liked this. So many times AF layouts seem to be focused on presenting them as 'toy trains' -- four tie track, all the equipment labelled 'American Flyer Lines', piles of operating accessories. It's nice to see a layout that leans more into the 'model railroading' side of things - ballasted track, reasonable liveries, nice structures, etc. Good work guys.

    I "accidentally" purchase a Lionel American Flyer SD70ACe, 6-48168 equipped with "low rail" S-scale wheels and couplers. The parts to convert it to high-rail are literally, "in the mail" as I write this. I'm sure this will be a new adventure to transform my SD70ACe, to a "TOY TRAIN" Ha! I love the "play value" at age 75! My original AF train has been with me since Dec 1954! I too, have a modest Chessie roster including traditional transformer operated and Flyonel FlyerChief Remote Controlled prime movers. SO much fun and so little spare time! 🤪

      Gilbert Flyer was primarily AC, though they sold a few DC locomotives in late 40's and early 50's. Lionel Flyer is strictly AC. In simple terms you can convert any locomotive over to DC or even DCC. Americsn Models can be purchased AC or DC, eith scale or hi-rail wheelsets, as was the case with S Helper Service. MTH locomotives can be operated in AC, DC, or DCC without any conversion. The newer op

      @stevenallen9613 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The newer MTH and Lionel Flyer have newer operating systems with sound and other engine functions that will basically work with conventional transformers, but you need the manufactures operating systems for all of the functions to work, vs a limited number of functions under traditional modes..

    I have the Merchadiser set that I received for Christmas when I was about 13. I also have an original 1954 #300 store layout that has many of those Minicraft and American Flyer accessories. I was intrigued by the alternating highway flasher as I designed and built a similar device a few years ago using an Arduino. Mine also dings the bell and operates a crossing gate. Great layout and fun to watch!

    AF were closer to scale because the track radius were wider in proportion to their size, but the 3 pole motors made them stumble and stall at slow speeds. Lionel engineered their locos and passenger cars for tight 31 inch diameter curves. AF couplers were especially ugly too, until they made knuckle couplers, and the switch machines were ugly, but the operating accessories were better than Lionel. They couldn't match the AF people moving station.

    Until American models came on the scene with their well detailed s scale locomotives you were pretty much limited to the toy like American Flyer line until you stretch a thousand dollars then you got the better stuff. You could tell the newer locomotives on this layout compared to reproductions of the old American Flyer. Of course all that is made in China now.

    Trains in the old days had a glamor they just don't have anymore. They were such a big part of American life until they weren't anymore all of our layouts represent in America we wish we could have lived in or In America which we watched die. Don't we all want to live on our layout in a nice peaceful prosperous clean America with no graffiti on train cars or anywhere else.

    I wish that after the war Lionel had gone into strictly too rail and O scale the big disparity between the old scale trains and the scale trains with the fact that the scale trains were made in much smaller numbers therefore much higher per unit cost
