We finally tackle the engine. Will it be good news. These parts are effected in the change, you will need to: 1. Carb and cable of course, The RH switchgear to fit the cable. 2. Swap the inlet stub studs to shorter versions. 2. LH switchgear, choke cable.

What an attractive bike. Well done. I have really enjoyed your series. Good for you not letting a bike die. I am leaning more and more to getting an old ZSB. Thanks Kev.
Hi Hugh, not at all. The bikes actually sold now, I didnt really want to sell it, I loved bombing round on it, loads of fun and looked great. I'm getting another Guzzi and its just to good to turn down and I need the space. But if another comes along i might do another.
if your on facebook, join my page, occasionally a bargain comes up there. facebook.com/groups/292488958521450/
Nice interesting film Kev. Good to see you not giving up.
nah, just inconsistent vids.
Hello Kev I have watched a good few of your films and so far have been a secret observer. Thank you for such interesting films. I'm an old guy and go about on on old '59 BSA C15. It is great to see you tinkering and repairing a modern bike like I do with my old C15. Really enjoyable films and not too long! I was hoping you would rebuild the engine but I can't have everything. Maybe I'll get hold of a ZSB when I can't use my kickstart anymore! I prefer the older one with the carb. You have some chance of making sense and fixing it with a carb! Take care and looking forward to more of your films.
Hi Hugh, Thanks for the positive support. I was taught to look after my bikes and i love it.and where do you take my old bikes anyway? Just passing the skills on. These little chinese bikes are great cheap to run and simple to fix. Spares are cheap and their fun and simple to ride. Never been one for any snobbery, love all bikes. Ride safe.
@@kevkfz5226 Good for you. I'm the same, not a bike snob. 15 years ago I bought a Chinese 125 brand new on Ebay. It cost £450 including a free helmet, jacket and gloves! Astonishing. I loved it and had it for three years driving it around the Highlands. It was stolen in Edinburgh when I went for a wee holiday. It was found by the police burned out in Tranent. Don't understand sick, bad people like that. My son then had a Chinese scooter with a GY6 copy engine which he trashed. I repaired that and used it for three years. Thanks for the reply.
Hi Kev great info, I can't seem to get access to my stator, I've removed 7 screws but can't work out where anymore are. Any chance you could help me please.
Always best to contact me on the FB page. Yes you have missed a bolt its very well hidden on the right side of the cover. Look very carefully its there!
Stupid question, what's your Facebook page? I can't find it.
Oooo trials zsb would be good!...... I've got quite a few bikes of all different shapes and sizes, but around a year ago I found myself in need of a super cheap to run small bike that I could afford to run on next to no money as I had to take time off work due to recovering from a leg injury (luckily not bad enough to stop me riding)... anyway fast forward to now and I still have it and absolutely love it for what it is, mines a 2020 efi but euro 4 I believe? So far I've fitted a full exhaust system from lextek which has woken it right up and I've even managed to hit the rev limiter in top gear on a few occasions when the winds been behind me 😳. My only gripes really are a couple of small issues that I intend to address at some point, first being the forks are a little to soft so I may replace oil with heavier weight and maybe make some spacers for the springs, 2nd the paint is pretty rubbish on the frame so I may have to strip it all and have it powder coated.... And lastly (I think this is what bothers me the most) I find the seat a little soft and it can get very uncomfortable on journeys longer than about an hour, I'm not particularly heavy either at around 12 stone so I may bite the bullet and get the seat professionally redone with better foam or adjusted to suit however they do it, as intend to keep this bike around for quite a while 😎 Brilliant content by the way 👍 new sub here
Really glad your enjoying the ZSB for what they are. im loving riding mine., its a lot of fun. Agree on the seat, the shape is great but the foam is a little cheap and needs to me better quality. Its comfy for me for about an hour. Saying that my other bikes are worse.
@ you’ve got me seriously thinking about building mine into a trials’y enduro type bike… however I’d miss having it on the road and I do like it for what it is so I may buy a second one to play with if I can find one at the right price
Great advice, Anlas tyres are very good.
Glad you like them!
Good advice! Thanks 👍😊
Glad it was helpful!
*GT85 or ACF50
preferably ACF50 would be a better choice, GT85 is primarily a lubricant. But anything is better than nothing.
You explain all the issues well, thanks
im going to update this video soon with new findings......
Thanks for details and solutions. I assume you still like your bike? Have you done a road test review? Regards from shildon
Yes , ive rebuilt 2 bikes this year and very much enjoying riding my own one. I havent done a raod test, there is a lot on TH-cam so i dont see the point.
Hi Kev, just watched your video, and you suggest tickover to be around 700/750 rpm. Mine is a 2020 Efi and tickover has been 1500 rpm since I got it. Only recently the bike has been cutting out occasionally on over run, coming to a stop at lights etc. Starts up again straight away. Tried turning tge mixture screw out half turn as you suggest, but the throttle stop adjuster doesn't look oike the one in your video. Just a threaded piece wth a nut on it, seems no way of adjusting it down to 700 rpm tickover.
Sorry meant 2021 model.
ive got the same problem with another bike. So hang fire and i will update the video.
@@kevkfz5226 thanks Kev.
These bikes are cheap but are they fit for purpose? Most Lexmoto's have a short life due to the poor quality of the parts used. I think it's better to buy a premium brand, such as a Honda. I've got a 52 year old Honda PC50 which still runs perfectly and is in great condition.
I'd disagree with your comment about parts , but I'll let you make up your own mind, I've posted over 50 videos and currently have 4 bikes. Ive owned and rebuilt lots of Hondas as well including CB125s's and CG125's.
Thought I'd end up having to butcher my old caliper toremove the cable. Of course,Haynes make it sound so simple when they say say just pull the cable free through it's mounting point on the caliper but the reality is anything but. Anyway, thought I'd consult the modern day oracle and see if there was something I was missing, looks like my problems are typical of others with an old Vectra
Bob, yep, no way mine was coming out and there was good chance id break off the lug and ruin everything. Not worth it for the price of a caliper.
Looks lush Kev, show it off come down The Hub
150 miles on her now.
Kev, I'd love another series like this one. Your series almost made me buy a zsb except a deal came up on a UM and I couldn't turn it down.
I'm enjoying riding it at the moment, no plans to start another project yet. I need to sell some ZSB's for next season, as Ive got a new Guzzi arriving. I fancy doing a Ducati Monster or a Honda Bros/Hawk as an A2 complaint bike. we'll see
FZ key fob!
yep. we have t shirt and mug. hows your FZ coming on?
@@kevkfz5226, shock is away being rebuilt and repaired. Then it will be a rolling chassis again. I have done some work on the top fairing. I have found a pair of brand new inner fairing panels in my parts stock.
What would there be to gain by telling people to set it lower? Would it reduce emissions or something. They probably just want people to knacker up their engines so they can sell replacements. 😁👍
think its a miss print, should read 0.10mm. The translation of the manual is sometimes a bit unusual
doesnt look like a ZSB to me!
thanks that was partly the idea.
Just connect about two inches of wire onto the end part.it should be easy to braid the wire and solder
not sure that would work
@@kevkfz5226worth a try at least.I'm needing
Needing to clean her carberreter out now and engine overheating so I'll put some coolant in and drain radiator.
Engine runs like scrap ☹️☹️
I sold this bike years ago. it never ticked over well and needed some work, but it was sold as such
very nice
Thanks
I was watching this with headphones on and that engine sounds amazing.
Terry, its is an old Ducati Bevel silencer I used on the Guzzi's for a bit till I lost the LH side. Cos its a long absorption type its has a deep tone.
Class act with the exhaust
really happy with it. thanks...
This is personally the best video ive watched all year. Its really helped. Thanks again!
Thanks, its good to have some feedback.
I dont normally comment on videos, but im so alpreciative of this video, ive thought about making some myself when dismantaling various bikes, but i havent had thr time... This has really helped me with all of the explanation and the good video work, ive been habing problems with my efi lexmoto venom and its been a nightmare. Really, thank you! ❤️
Glad it was helpful!
12:17 - Did you do a Part 2?
i did. its there somewhere
Had Bike-Seal in my tubed tyres (Interceptor 650) for almost four years. Have I had a puncture? Don't know. Nothing in the treads. It's like the rope-cutter on my boat's propeller. Never had a fouled prop. Either been lucky, or these products work silently. As I prefer more than one inflated tyre on my bike, I'll stick with the Bike-Seal on the next.
Syd, when i had a puncture the tyre wen down and it took a few cyles of pumping it up and letting it down before it sealed. It worked and i got home.
£300 for a 4 yera old bike. Thats cheap. As to the crank trigger, think some work from the start of the trigger and some from the end. Once running it will be worth checking the timing
I couldnt get the rotor off. its got the EFI rotor on complete with timing marks. if it runs bad i'll have to swap it over.
@@kevkfz5226hopefully you can get the rotor off if necessary.
When I took the exhaust off to paint it I was amazed by the weight of it, so I made a simple tubular one out of stainless. It does give a much quicker pick up, and saves a lot of weight.
yep its a monster
Any suggestions for a better silencer Kev.
to fit the existing downpipe? try classicbikeshop.co.uk they have a large range of classic style ones.
please can u do one for the carb pls
the carb is pretty simple and same as many other bikes. There's lots similar on TH-cam.
my zsb e4 2021 ticks over at 1500rpm? i also changed my airfilter box to a universal k&n one mainly for space saving, I put my tools there lol. should the rpms be lower? and do you know any way of getting better tops speeds? as my 5th gear drops off in power dramatically
yes 1500 is too high. Check you have enough free play in the throttle cable.
Wow that headlight is ...😂
Yep, Ideally i'd really like a 35 Wat H4 with a traditional metal reflector and glass lens. Call me old fashioned but this would give a good beam pattern and be reliable.
Thankyou for making these, really interesting. Rare for people to work on things now yet in the past armed with red hermitite we d strip everything down, in the 50's my dad had a push bike with a petrol motor you could buy and fit, he ended up doing a minor rebuild on London Bridge when it broke down surrounded by American tourists gawping at our technology though i think dad might have embellished the story a little.
That’s part of the reason I’m doing it, is it economical to rebuild old (8 years) abused Chinese bikes? Lots of stuff broken and bent but parts are cheap. The problem is I do to good a job and fix everything and improve. Someone is going to get a good bike.
Where there's a will there's a way. Improvising to get that crank pin out.
No way im getting that rod out, it will need a big press, the forces involved way higher than i can make with my vice. Also the rod isnt available separately so its pointless anyway. A new crank is only around 50 quid.
The valves close up really quickly on chinese bikes esp around 3000-5000 miles
I think thats probably a bit of a generalisation but its a good idea to check the valve before you do any messing the fueling. I think I said that in the video.
If you're channelling your inner Ed China dont let a wannabe Mike Brewer sell it for you as you definitely wont turn a profit. Really enjoyed these videos. Last autumn a dealer was selling these new for under 1500, they still didnt shift so the price went back to list.
Im not going to turn a profit, in this video it was only going t break even and unfortunatly things can only get worse not better. it is what it is, im enjoying it.
Not a big Ed China fan. Wheeler dealers was ok, but I find him a bit of a big head and hes the biggest exponent of the youtuber mechanic pitfall where he has so much kit out the realms of the average monkey that the video's becomes irrelevant. When he started stripping the Range rover with a 850 quid Milwaukee Buzz gun i lost interest. it was worth more that the car.
Hi Kevin. First of all I am very much enjoying your rebuild of this motorcycle. As you seem to know these bikes I would like your advice. I am not far off 70 years old and would like to buy a new bike. I have ridden many motorcycles in the past but would like to get back on two wheels again and not spend a fortune. Keep up the good work. Terry
Hi Terry, I'm 72 and bought a nearly new zsb about a year and half ago with 600 mile on clock. I too rode many bikes in the past, and it was nearly 30 years ago when I last rode. The zsb is plenty fast enough and a nice lightweight bike to get back into.
Thanks Terry. I make them for myself really, but if someone gets something out of then that's great. This is my third ZSB. The ZSB is probably the easiest bike to ride ive come across. I recently did a Pros and Cons videos so check them out. im sure your local dealer will let you have a test ride. Let me know how you get on.
Considering you can get these at the moment for under 2 grand brand new it is good value. It would need attention at first because a lot of things like brake lights clocks etc will leak water and corroded if you don't take it all apart and silicone it sealed, also routing the cables so water doesn't run down them into everything. It wouldn't need an MOT for 3 years but obviously needs maintenance. Recently I was very tempted by the zsb but actually found a 2005 honda CG with only 2000 miles on it in mint condition for 1600 and decided to have it. I would definitely consider one of these zsbs as it is very good value if you have the patience to maintain it adequately. Good luck and ride safe. 😎👍
Great job! I'm not sure I'd trust that clutch lever. Would rather use another from an old honda. I had one snap and you could see the big crystally poor quality aluminium. 👍😎
i think your right, it'l do till a good ZSB one comes along.
Coming along nicely.
thankyou
Coming on nicely. Like the tyre remover, makes life easy.
Not sure about that. Maybe one day i'll invest in a proper one.
Hi Kev. Could you replace these headlights with one from a Suzuki GN 125?
Ive never tried. Its possible but I think the GN125 has the same Bosch prefocus 35w bulb, which is rubbish. I suspect the metal Reflector and glass lens are much supperior to the ZSB items. The more i mess with headlights the more i think adding additional lights via the switch is the best option. Depends on what sort of riding you do.
@@kevkfz5226 I might just give up looking for an alternative headlight as a replacement. Just can't find one without some rewiring of cables. I've resorted to using two Cat Eye bicycle headlights attached on either side where the indicators are, facing downward. It works and they're rechargeable! Odd thing to have to do on a motorbike though..
Very informative Kev.
Glad you enjoyed it
Presumably you have a water mark for a triall or something? I use Clipchamp and the basic version is free if that is of help. Obviously, my 12 year old did better than me after 10 minutes....🤣
Is there a forum for this bike
There is a face book group.
Bit of de ja vu here..😂 Great job though, nice to watch it progressing. 👍😎
I know sorry, ive deleted the files now, i cant edit it. Oh well amateurish i know.....
I've noticed your current ZSB videos are on a 69 plate, is this one the old one (was it a 15 plate) which I always thought looked in good condition or one you've got hold of for a restoration?
Yes this is a ZSb no.3. challenge rebuild, the engine is blown, the frame and forks are all bent. Every bracket is bent. The body work is mismatched. bearings are knackered, its filthy.
Would make more sense to put those nylock nut on the other way😂
You never put a bearing in alu cold, and you also forgot to glue it with loctite. A serious amateur job. 🤢 You clearly forgot to put the Ball for the speedodrive, I do not think you work on a gear box, you clearly have no idea what you are doing.
Nice just got a zsb so be good to see one being rebuilt! Appreciate the timing chain sound effects too 😅
Well see, still discovering problems.....
Interesting video. Surprised at some of the decent workmanship in manufacture, for such a modestly priced bike too.
