PART 9 : Painting our RIB with Polymarine Flexithane Hypalon Paint
Part 9 of Painting our RIB with Flexithane Hypalon Paint. Another day another layer but what a result. This is now the third coat of white and SEAX is starting to look great. The weather wasn't so good but that suits the paint and so we got on with painting.

Part 8 Seax Internal Painting With Plastikote
มุมมอง 2.4K4 ปีที่แล้ว
This is am interim video, we had to down tools a bit and focus on other aspects of the MVS. We have been making sure the other boats are ok as Seax here is all but ready to go. This film shows her getting an inner update and leaves just the last outer coats of white and blue Hypalon paint to go on. I put this to music by Chris Coco called Summertime. He is a friend and I thought the chilled, am...
Putney Thames in Winter. It's all about bailing out!
มุมมอง 2844 ปีที่แล้ว
A beautiful sunny day on the Thames. Blessed with skies and liquid glass water. A trip down the Thames and the first visit to our boats after double lockdown. We'd been told she is full of water and sinking so we're off to check her out!
Part 7: Before Internal Painting We Tested Flexibility Hypalon
มุมมอง 3.2K4 ปีที่แล้ว
I let down the sponsons to deal with a puncture and this is what I found. Boat is still about half way through here as I got sidelined on another boat.
Part 5 : Painting our RIB with Polymarine Flexithane Hypalon Paint
มุมมอง 10K4 ปีที่แล้ว
We found the masking tape was left on too long and got stuck in the paint. We should have taken it straight off but missed that. But we live and learn.
Part 6 : Painting our RIB with Polymarine Flexithane Hypalon Paint
มุมมอง 9K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Masking issues.... We found that we left the tape on too long and this exposed the areas that weren't prepped enough to hold the paint and deal with the glue.
Part 4 : Painting our RIB with Polymarine Flexithane Hypalon Paint
มุมมอง 10K4 ปีที่แล้ว
A 2nd coat of blue on the strakes to take the ghosting from the white base layer out and lose the patchiness before we lay a 3rd coat after the next light sanding.
Part 2 : Painting our RIB with Polymarine Flexithane Hypalon Paint
มุมมอง 7K4 ปีที่แล้ว
We used wet and dry sand paper with a 1200 rating. A good size block to keep it smooth and this was to take out the foam left by the overheating sun. We found out this must be applied in certain conditions and with certain types of brushes and rollers and different times. This is what it came out like and we will wait til part 3 to see how the blue goes down.
Part 1 : Painting our 5.4m RIB with Polymarine Flexithane Hypalon Paint.
มุมมอง 29K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Giving life to an Old RIB. We thought we save the appearance of an 25 year old RIB using Flexithane Hypalon paint. It's been pretty well talked about online and seems a good alternative to replacing the tubes in the short term. It's not cheap at £55.00 per half litre but we thought we'd try it out. We raised all the money through fundraising and donations. This paint was paid for by the Putney ...
Part 3 : Painting our RIB with Polymarine Flexithane Hypalon Paint

Painting a test coat of Blue. This is Midnight Blue that we are are using for the very first time. We are painting the lower side to top blue and rest white for navy colours. We chose to do it outside and with rollers only as we had little choice.

    Hey mate great vids!! Is it tacky at all once dried?

    • @Rizzbizzfizz
      @Rizzbizzfizz 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, leave it for at least 24 hours and tape any masking stuff off. Works well, we got a 2 years of heavy use before we gave her another touch up coat. But we used it every weekend on the thames in all weather with lots of people jumping in and out. So if you were kind to it, yo'd get a decade before yo had to paint it again....

    The air bubbles that you are referring too are water from your compressor and air line. An air compressor coalescer needs to be installed to separate oil and water and an inline filter also needs to be used in the very least. You're in essence spraying dirty air mixed in with your spray material onto all your prep work.

    Is a oil base paint or water base?

    • @Rizzbizzfizz
      @Rizzbizzfizz ปีที่แล้ว

      A liquid rubber base I believe. It's amazing stuff, lasts well. We've had a couple of years of use in the Thames and it needs a refresh. If I had my choice again, I'd spray it with the same paint. Keep petrol and solvents away from it. Make sure you prep the surface very very well or it'll peel off.

    Hi very nice job it inspired me to start my own restoration. Question. How deep should I sand in the beginning? Do you have a picture or something?

    • @Rizzbizzfizz
      @Rizzbizzfizz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your question, this and the one below are inspiring me to make a video of the earlier sections of sanding and prepping. In answer, we went over with a circular sander and then by hand with a 200 to give the sponsons enough grip for the paint. We found that any areas we skipped at all, immediately peeled. When sanding, it has to be complete, every mm has to be rough or the paint peels. If you look at Part 5 you'll see where we missed the port quarter and ot just peeled. Also, make sure that you remove any masking tape as soon as you can. Once the first coat is on, use a 800-1200 to get another surface for it to grab to and it sits well, covering up all the scratches. Repeat... We did about 5 layers of white all in with a fine sanding inbetween for that extra stick. It may have been overkill but she is holding well, the paint isn't too bad albeit dirty and we are rbinging her ashore for another coat as we wanted to see how this paint would last a season.

    it sucks that you have to sand it all over again!

    • @putneymvs602
      @putneymvs602 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      KInda but that's the same with any decent paint job I guess. Put one one and sand, then another and another until the layers build up. I think we probably went over the top as I wanted a pro finish on the boat. You wouldn't have to be anywhere near as tight as we were. And we had time on our hands in lockdown and couldn't launch. :)

    This video is slightly longer than normal for our unit but there was alot of extra work undertaken in sorting valves out and other stuff to get her ready for partol. If anyone would like to join us, then please email : putneymvs@gmail.com. We are always on the water, we would welcome anyone with experience especially as we have no upper age limit. Yes if you are 80 you can join.

      It's coming next. I've just been building a battery box to install an auto bilge and nav lights. When that goes in, Mastebrew will come ashore and the finished painted part 7 will be up. She does now have a new seat and console painted. A days painting with hypalon white and she'll be ready. We look forward to showing her off on the water and welcome anyone who wants to join us.
