Tough Dog Tech Tips: Wheel Offsets

Once you've upgraded your 4WD's suspension, the next logical mod is a new set of wheels and offroad tyres. Hi, thanks for the comment. For those that are daily commuting the vehicle with no load, there is no issues with the factory suspension. However there are several reasons why someone might choose to upgrade their suspension, even on a new car: - To achieve a more comfortable ride over the factory setup or to fit larger tyres for off-road adventures. - To handle additional weight from aftermarket accessories like bull bars, winches, or heavy drawers. - To safely and effectively tow, where something like airbags can help manage varying loads. - For a GVM Upgrade, allowing the vehicle to legally and safely carry more weight than factory specifications permit. While this isn’t available for the 250 Prado yet, our engineering team is actively working on it. Toyota has the tough job of creating a suspension solution that suits everyone and their unique needs. Tough Dog suspension upgrades are all about tailoring a vehicle to suit its specific purpose and user needs. Hope that helps clarify!

      Hi Mate, thanks for the comment. We understand there may be some concerns around warranty, but rest assured we have you covered. Toyota’s warranty will remain, and generally applies to all vehicle components except the suspension as the original components will be changed. Tough Dog stands behind our suspension kits with a 4-year/unlimited km recreational warranty for all suspension components we offer. Let us know if you have more questions, we’re here to help!

    • @dperk1757
      @dperk1757 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Toyota told me that any modification may effect the warranty and will be assessed case by case. Prior to any claim the dealer will commonly document mods to wheels, tyres, suspension, bar work, towing equipment, and check the engine and automatic transmission for evidence of remapping or modification to exhaust and induction system including aftermarket snorkels and air box mods, the list went on! I spoke with my local dealers service manger at length about this and my take was if you modify the vehicle in anyway and then have issues no warranty unless the claim is isolated to a part of the vehicle that is clearly not modified and not effected by any other modified parts of the vehicle. Sorry long reply, but I thought it worth mentioning..

    • @toughdogsuspension4wd
      @toughdogsuspension4wd 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Toyota has the tough job of creating a suspension solution that suits everyone and their unique needs. While they have done an excellent job with this new vehicle, the suspension setup isn't ideal for carrying any load over the rear axle or for fitting bigger tyres. That's where we come in, we're designing a range of solutions that can be tailored for each customer. Running a bar and winch? We have you covered with spring rated to suit. Loading up the rear with 300kg? We also have you covered with springs rated for those constant loads.

    • @toughdogsuspension4wd
      @toughdogsuspension4wd 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Incorrect. The GoPro footage was taken with a driver and passenger in the front seat, and no load over the rear axle. If you're still not convinced, take one for a drive and you'll notice the progressive bump stop we're highlighting in this video.

  • @SteveBurns80
    @SteveBurns80 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Ah no, this doesn't correct the panhard angle, the adjustable panhards only allows you to center the axel under the chassis at static ride height. You only make the geometry worse when the suspension cycles up and down, you get increased lateral movement (more side to side wiggle). The correct way to do it, is to use a panhard correction bracket, this is the only way to correct the panhard geometry, the panhard should be sitting flat and parallel to the axel for best results.

    • @toughdogsuspension4wd
      @toughdogsuspension4wd ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! We have supplied and fitted the RTC damper to Jimny JB74 since 1998. Ever since it's been extremely successful in helping to reduce kickback through the steering in offroad conditions and helping the steering return to the centre position in offroad use. It's also very effective with larger wheels and tyres. On the road this damper works well by making the steering feel more direct at highway speed and eliminating the wondering feel that Jimnys tend to have.
