Living in China: An Expat Teaching Three Years in China
มุมมอง 154ปีที่แล้ว
I taught in a kindergarten and a high school. The differences in ages and styles were as vast as China. From Hangzhou to Chengdu, I traveled the country, a fair amount, during the dawn of Covid. Credit to @AR.39 for drone footage. If you want to see China, in particular, Hangzhou, up close check out his channel.
Muscat Oman
มุมมอง 189ปีที่แล้ว
A sinkhole in the desert where fish eat the dry skin off your feet. Mounds of dry, boulders protruding from the ground. White buildings everywhere, immersed in the towering clay colored mountains. A coastline that stretches the entirety of the capital, Muscat, all the way down an eight hour drive to the furtherest southern point. Friendly people, and comforting food; mostly Thai food, and Chine...
Krispy Kreme Interview in Abu Dhabi (UAE)
มุมมอง 93ปีที่แล้ว
To think of the future and to assist her in the questions to come from family, we sat down to discuss the happenings in her life. In the past three months, the kindergarten teacher I met in Hangzhou had moved to Abu Dhabi, became a cabin crew member, and became more serious with me. Now, we had to address all this prior to her flights back to Shanghai, and the inevitably inquiries from her fami...

Driving in Abu Dhabi: Etihad Towers and the Louvre (UAE)
มุมมอง 56ปีที่แล้ว
Being in Abu Dhabi, with an aim to leave one's hotel to explore the city requires a drive. Use a taxi, and pay the fees (not suggested, if you have the aim to explore), or rent a car. That's what we did, during our five day stint together; our reunion (Jiayi and I) after nine months. She had moved to Abu Dhabi in February, and I was set to move to Dubai in August. For now, we had a plan to see ...
Etihad Airways Business Class (UAE)
มุมมอง 191ปีที่แล้ว
For the first time in my life, I flew in business class. And what better airlines than Etihad Airlines! Thanks to my partner, I had a taste of luxury in my seat. A three course meal, a seat that reclines, and the wonderful service from the Etihad cabin crew members, I can only applaud the experience. #etihad_airways #businessclass #luxurylifestyle
Istanbul: Hagia Sophia, Asia Side, Turkish Food, and Trams
มุมมอง 40ปีที่แล้ว
A ferry ride to the Asian side of Istanbul, the only city in the world straddling two continents. Many visits inside restaurants in Istanbul to eat Turkish food; well worth holding off on eating any foreign food, or fast food! Cramped tram rides that ride around the Sultanahmet district. An evening visit to Hagia Sophia, only describable (for me) through video. #hagiasophia #mosques #istanbul
Istanbul: Balat, Mosques, and Sultanahmet (Turkey)
มุมมอง 29ปีที่แล้ว
The massive, sprawling city of Istanbul is very walkable. It's worth using the public transport, too, however be prepared to be cramped in a tram. I prefer to walk and see the eye-catching sights along the way, as I walked from Sultanahmet (the main area housing Hagia Sophia) to Balat (a colorful neighborhood tourists visit in groups). #istanbul #balat #travelturkey
Istanbul: Karakoy and More
มุมมอง 27ปีที่แล้ว
Day one in Istanbul, I left the Sulltanahmet area and headed across the river Karakoy. The city full of tourists is certainly worthy of in-depth travel. Instantly, a challenge arose for me; where to go? #istanbul #karaköy #walkaround
Izmir: A Historic Coastal City with a View
มุมมอง 46ปีที่แล้ว
After my first day in Izmir, I met a few of the other guests at the hostel. With an invite from two of them, Phoebe and Tillman, I ventured out with company to the hills near the fortress, overlooking the city. Up there offers a far different feel than the main area near the coast; the same can be said of the bazaar. #izmir #localguides #travelsolo

    How close can you bring the motorbike to the temples?

    • @scordo-encounters
      @scordo-encounters ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends upon the temple. Some are quite vast, and have an area to park the motorbike before walking five or ten minutes to the main temple grounds. For most of them that are right off the main road, you could just park and walk right up to them.

    An American student came here under student exchange programme in the 90s even brought along jams like strawberry, marmalade jam. He was so embarrassed when the plane landed in Subang airport that he realised that his opinion about malaysia being a backward country do not sell jams or have refrigerators and there is no ice here.

    • @scordo-encounters
      @scordo-encounters ปีที่แล้ว

      Kimmie, that actually doesn't surprise me. I'd say many of us (Americans) don't know too much about our countries; especially, countries that we didn't learn a lot about in school, like Malaysia. But it is incredibly development, and KL is the perfect depiction of that.

  • @kimmie5861
    @kimmie5861 ปีที่แล้ว

    Many westerners have a general impression of countries in s.e.a are backward especially during the 60s, 70, 80s, 90s because the info they received are from hearsay. Majority of them have never visited malaysia and they have this mindset that Malaysians live on trees. Students from Malaysia who went to US for tertiary education were asked , do you live on trees ? They are ill informed and have zero knowledge of malaysia. They think we are like indo china countries who lived in slums area. Terrible. Yes in the 50s, 60s, 70s we do lived in villages but not slums.
