Lanning will not move from Eugene until at *least* his sons' graduations. Portal? Fentress? Really? That is a POSITIVE not negative. He is able to adjust on the fly. Dux/Dawgs ... always a war. I am not comfortable going into this. Confident but not comfortable.

@@monicabraunschweiger.3404 Reread my comment. Fentress was saying Lanning needed the portal to get his roster and he said it as a negative thing about Lanning ability to roster build. My comment was that Lanning's ability to hop on the portal (and become the #1 program in the portal rankings) was a positive when looking at Lanning. He was able to adjust on the fly with new rules and use them to his advantage. A positive, not a negative concerning his roster building ability.

I agree with Aaron's first statement. Oregon is finding a way to win, but they are beatable. Absolutely. But they are not "very, very beatable." What Aaron omits is that they are also capable of *beating* every single team in this country and doing it without fail, thus far. Don't forget! The Dux also had the stress of entering a new-to-them, old school conference, against traditional powers, in huge stadiums with rabid fans. Plus, a lot of taxing travel to get used to. Two and three thousand mile trips. They travelled the most miles of any team in the country (at least as of a few weeks ago). I think this makes what they have done thus far, more remarkable than finding fault lines. Freaking LOVED that Lanning came in and took their 4th qtr tradition and used it to motivate the team. To provide a little memory association to make the fourth quarter transition autonomic. Positively. Very cool. Very innovative. Love my Dux.

Have 25-36 games with 3-4 receivers and is comfortable with how each receiver runs their route? Well then... Pretty incredible they are as good as they are considering the patchwork of the progrum

I think lack of Tez was an even greater reason for the struggle than the need for a bye--though the bye was badly needed! Stewart did a great job early against their "lock down corner" Hallman, but that battle tilted the other way as the game went on, and it really limited the offense. I'm glad Ferguson stepped up for some clutch grabs because the other WRs were quiet. Oregon's D got better as the game went on. I was surprised Lanning went for it on the late 4th down, but it was pretty low risk considering how great the defense was playing. I actually like the call because it's another wrinkle opponents need to prepare for. Oregon's offense and special teams now have plenty of game experience with these high pressure 4th down or trick play situations. Might come in handy later this year!

Aaron, Jump Around, wtf? How many coaches do you know or read of that have prepped their team for the opponent’s crowd-raising methods? This argument is just trolling. So EVEN better…have the team prepare a unique cheer for each upcoming opponent that the team and coaches cheer in unison to the opponent once the game is over, regardless of outcome. [may want two cheers; one for a win, one for a loss]. People who play the now professional sport of Ultimate have been doing this for decades (both teams usually do it). This fosters respect and fun for oneself, teammates, and the opponent, regardless of how much animosity exits between them. Having done it with many teams for many years, the team plays better.

@ Aaron, thanks for the reply. For clarity, and since you didn’t answer my question, what part of what I wrote says Lanning’s Pavlov ploy is common in football? Your commentary made it sound like Dan’s psychological approach is commonplace. I don’t see that approach in football. If I’m clueless, I’m open to be informed. I am assuming you are not referring to my cheer suggestion. I think using cheers (respectful ones) would improve football, even though it is a violent sport. I did a violent sport for 5 and a half years and we always bowed to our opponent before and after the fight. But then I found Ultimate.

Might take heat for this. But the Wednesday practice that week wasn't good. And then the team was unfocused and sloppy the next game. What happened Tuesday that could have affected people Wednesday and through the week? Election.

Good positive responses to keep the momentum going-nevermind that guy in the Fouts chair...

Good point by Numan. Ducks gave Maryland at least 7 of those 18 points on a penalty call.

Kent says Lanning is a lifer at Oregon. I think that is way too rosy a view. Maybe he wants to stay here and win a championship with Oregon, but he is young. No way he is staying here for 30 years. Maybe 10 years to get his kids through school, but no way he turns down offers from SEC or NFL teams, if he continues this level of success. I think Fentress has the right approach to this. Wait till Lanning actually gets an offer from a school/team that compares with Oregon.

Did anybody else notice how often the Maryland receivers jumped to catch the ball? I don't know if it was just one guy or more, but it seemed like they could have had yards after catch if they just caught the ball and churned their legs like a regular receiver instead of hanging up in the air only to get tackled or fall down as they came back down to the ground. The ball would be thrown at a receiver's neck and they'd jump to catch it.

I don't think the Maryland game was a "wakeup call" for Oregon, because they won by too many points to receive much of a warning. A narrow escape at Wisconsin, however, would do the trick just fine. Aaron's contention that Oregon is but one of an echelon of teams roughly equally capable of winning the natty makes sense. I'd name the others in this first tier: Ohio State, Texas, Alabama, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, and Georgia. Some of these teams have had ugly losses, but the playoffs are all about what a team can do going forward once they've secured a playoff berth. As for Penn State, Tennessee, Indiana, and Miami, I'd put them in the next tier for now.
