Back down at Burnett Heads for another land based session. I didn't like loosing that large fish from the previous video. And with better condition for Fishing and with an itch to scratch, I went to chase something large...
The spot was a little challenging for the day, running into a lot of smaller fish and toadies intent on stealing every bit of tackle I threw out there. But changing spots and varying my technique a little weather that would be changing the size of the hook or sinker.. Running with or without a swivel and changing my leader up and down to call out the most finicky of fish to come and eat.
Thanks For Watching. I promise I will be doing some more yak fishing soon. Just have a few electrical connections to look after so I can get cruising again with the T24 Watersnake.
Appreciate all of you kinds words an support.

With the kayak down for a little bit of modification, This was the perfect time to do a land based session down at Burnett Heads. My goal was to try catch some la...

Trying out a New spot, that I had investigated last time I was down in this area. I wanted to check out how this area would fish in a high tide, and target something a bit different than flathead. Choosing this time around to use some bait instead of flicking the soft plastics. It wasn't long before I started hooking up to my target species. And after Meeting a Local down there and picking his ...

I decided to launch the kayak a little more up river than I normally do. Still trying to figure out the fastest ways to reach the spots I'm targeting. And as an added bonus there is plenty of man made structure around to cast into. With the thought of a whopping big fish on my mind I set off first to the port, hoping that throwing around a large bait on my bigger setup would entice a bite. Sadl...
Deep Fishing Hole || Burnett River

After I got a Hot tip from a Subscriber, of a deep hole that was bound to have some monster fish lurking about. I set off to pin point it after I launched the kayak. I was surprised how close to the ramp that this hole was. I can see why some locals have trespassed to gain access from the shore, as it gets DEEP very quickly from the shoreline. Though it was a promising looking spot, I soon foun...

Ever Since the Bundaberg FFC Comp ended I've been waiting patiently for the Woodgate Beach Hotel Fishing Comp. The weather was looking a bit average for the 3 day competition. With Friday being incredibly windy, Saturday's weather got worse with lots of rain. The Saving grace of the comp was the Sunday. Couldn't have asked for a nicer day to be out fishing. My Plan was to Flick Plastics on Frid...

So after being told about giving this spot a try (Thanks Nick) i had a scout online to see how far i'd be walking to explore this system. It's definitely within a reasonable walking distance and the Weather, Despite the wind was perfect. What a stunning little system. We are pretty blessed to have all these unique and varying fishing spots within a fairly small radius. I wasn't really aware tha...

Loving the videos, new to the area and would love to come along for a few adventures if you'd be keen on that? Keep up the content! Cheers mate
awesome video. did you need your rudder? was tracking straight an issue having the motor on one side?
Need a new run down of your motor setup buddy....... i wanna do the same as what you have. :D
Yeah, Ive been a bit slack. Really need to do an update video on the setup. its been working out great on the rear. I've done up all the wiring too to make it more reliable as well. Had the switches get corroded and burn out twice now on the water so changed it all over to a relay driven setup. means i can use waterproof toggle switches that done need to handle 20Amps and don't cost $30 each.
Hey mate, i live in bundy and just recently got into fishing. Your videos have given me a bunch of good tips and also nice spots. More importantly though i love the channels concept of taking care of your mental health. Hope youre doing well and ill be patiently waiting for your return :)
Thanks mate, Really appreciate you dropping me a message! I'm glad your getting into fishing 😁 It's been the best way to get me out of my shell and start to live a bit more. Unfortunately i had to leave the Bundaberg area last year. I miss the fishing up there. Less pressured water's around Bundy. I've recently just started getting back into my fishing after a big break. I'll be back for sure. I've been fortunate enough to meet up with nice bloke i actually met in Bundy, on one of my videos no less. He's been taking me out offshore and showing me the ropes out there. I've been making video for his channel lately. call it a bit of a collaboration effort. @EndlessWeekendlife " The endless Weekend" here on TH-cam. I'll start posting my own content back on my channel when i get my self sorted a bit more. All the best out there mate. wish you good luck fishing the water up there!!! have fun and enjoy yourself mate!!!
ciao scusa che batteria c hai montato lbs e che durata ha a questa velocita'???'?
50ah Lifepo4 it weighs 6.9KG (15lbs) It lasts about 2 - 2.5 hours full speed and can get me approx. 14km (8.6miles). hope that helps :D
Love the title of your channel mate, I have a boat if you want come out with me when I head down that way next
Thanks mate, Appreciate it. I'm not up in Bundy anymore. i had to move back down to Brissy. Thanks for the offer mate. hope to see you out on the water one day :P
nice vid mate 👍 was wondering if you have tried using them with 1/0 unweighted ewg hooks?
No, not personally, I should really give it a go one time. However i have seen it done like that before. Would go really well around pontoons in canals and such. or even eddies. Great suggestion mate. Thanks for watching. Appreciate you 😀
I bet it was a mackerel!
I think it's a great setup!!! One question please, with that assembly I do not understand the function of the cylindrical tube in the engine hole, why do you put the cylindrical tube? thank you!!
that tube is for my outriggers / stabilizers, its has no functional use for the trolling motor. Hope that helps. Also though i haven't made a video on it. I 100% recommend trying to rear mount the trolling motor, iv been using it like that for quite some time, but only if you have an option to steer it, and i used the rudder foot controls to steer the trolling motor on the back.
Bending your net 😂
So fun catching decent fish on light tackle. Makes you have to work for it.
Nice!
Where about is it ?
Directly across from the marina at Burnett heads mate, you can't see it very well just from looking on the other side. but trust me its there. :P
Just got these lures. Keen to try em out, nice to see them in action!
yeah, great if you are getting into soft plastics. from bait. I like to call them Bio Baits. No action required. Hope they worked well for ya
Excellent video!
Fished those trees and that hole a few times. Looks good..never get much there though.
Just bought the same motor but with the kayak mount glad to see that it seems to work well just gotta get a battery now
Hi are the red the back cords that come with the water snake are they water proof
No the use alligator clips on the end, i cut them off and used a Anderson plug instead but that still isn't waterproof. if your looking for a cheap waterproof connection that can handle the Amps. look into Solar panel MC4 connectors. I'm using those now.
@@CastingAwayDepression thank you I will look at them now cause my alligator clips are rusting already and I haven't even took my kayak out yet I've just been getting it ready thanks for your help i will look at them now
Would love to sit and fish here but so many people go flying through in boats I don’t feel to safe 😅
yeah, you do get that, but if you time it right when the tides down low, boats cant make it over the rocks so you have a little peace for a few hours :P
@@CastingAwayDepression I really enjoy your videos! My friend and I do land based fishing and i had no idea where I could fish from until I watched your channel. So a huge thank you!!!!!
@@crazycarnolady2323 Aww Thank you! That just made my day mate. I'm prepping myself to get back into making videos again. Life happened and things got bad for me. But i miss it and Fishing has given me some of best days over the last couple years. Good luck out there, Should be some big breambo's hanging out down near the rock walls at the mouth of the Burnett River right now.
Hi there CastingAwayDepression, I thought I would just touch base with you. I am hoping everything is Ok for you in your world. I hope your family member with an illness has recovered. I have been checking regularly in the hope you have release another of your enlightening videos. I would like to wish a Merry Christmas to you & yours and a Happy new year, Cheers, Martin Land
Thanks Martin, I've not been doing well. Though I'm really trying to get out of this Rut, i went for a flick for the first time in around a year just last week. I'm keen to get back into it. Just Mentally I'm just not that present... my videos would just be me not very talkative.. Thanks for your kind words mate.
The hole you are looking for is straight out from the fig tree on the bank!!
This is such a great video, I decided to make one like this. My only concern is I bought US 1 1/4 inch square aluminum with 1/8 inch walls and it’ll weigh 3 lbs when done. Too heavy ?
sorry i didn't see this earlier mate. hopefully yours turned out great. 3lbs Isn't that bad at all mate.
Hey mate ive got the same yak is the 24lb to quick for trolling lures in rivers?
nope it just perfect, and there is two speeds on it anyways, so depending on current you all good. also people to PWM mods to the controls so you can dial in the speed.
I love seeing all the different kayak setups. Today's Kayaks are one man boats. I have my 2023 Oldtown Autopilot 120. I also run my Bixpy J2 PP 768, On my stern. I could've gone with the NK 300. Someday I will. But it's going to lift the bow out of the Water. I run the Bixpy to my spots, then I'll use my Minnkota and spotlock. It's truly a one man boat. At 5ft 7 155. I can walk all over her, and fish from my tank well, backpack, and my open deck. 💯 🌊 🛶 🎣. But that's a cool setup bro.
Thanks mate, not to bad for a cheapie. done some good mods to her over the years. one day i hope to make a video about it.
Crocs?
nah not down this far south.. it is possible but highly unlikely.
Yep paddle there in my kyak
That's the way, hope its fishing well! last time i was there i saw a young lad in a tinny, dropping unweighted whole prawns just of the edge of the rock wall. pulled bream after bream.
Best Chewiing Fish
I've never tried, But I've been told they go alright. So I'm definitely keen to try next time i get a nice pan sized one :D
Just found ur stuff here mate, I hope your year is turning around and you're getting some fishin in. tight lines and look after yaself.
Cheers @the_dingo_show. slowly turning around. Getting back into the fishing after 7-8 months. Hope i can get some content out in the next couple months. Thanks for your kind words :D
@@CastingAwayDepression mate, go fishing don't pressure yourself with content. I know how much extra effort it takes and you should not put that on yourself if it's holding you back from getting out there. It'll come when you're ready don't force it or feel guilty for not filming. PS I'm down @ Innes Park for a few days, what's on the bite this time of year and where's a good spot for land based with a dog if you have any tips please?
@@the_dingo_show i got out for my first flick since Xmas last week. Felt really good. i did record it all, but will take some time to edit etc. and in the future instead of the pressure of trying to bang out a weekly video. I'm going to work on some longer videos but more spaced apart. Have a crack around Palmers Creek. near jennifer young park. Great for talking out the Dog, i'd be aiming for couple hours either side of the high tide. couple soft plastics near the entrance for some Flatties. or try flicking the outgoing tide off Kellys beach a little further up. Taylor, Bream and Flatties and if your fishing light.. maybe some whiting. Good luck out there :) I like the Berkley Gulp stuff. (Bio Baits) the new turbo shrimp go alright. 👍
@@CastingAwayDepression thanks heaps I'll give it a shot. I'm taking a 8lb and a 15lb see what I can find!
@@the_dingo_show That's the way mate!! Good luck out there. 8lb's = 👌
Hey legend! love the content. I have a nextgen 10 (non mk2). Keen to hear more about how you setup that rear mounted motor! cheers man and keep up the great work!
Thanks Mate, i'll be making a come back soon. I'll definitely be covering the rear mounted trolling motor setup. I don't have a PC to edit videos on anymore, So it might be a little while. Thanks for your comments👍
@@CastingAwayDepression Good to hear you're coming back mate! Love seeing the fishing/kayak content :-) Take care!
@@AustralianShootingChannel 🙌 Yes, I'm excited too. I missed it a lot... I can happily report that the rear mount is going strong.. even after it slept in the shed for the last 8 months.
I have the same motor in the pod of my feefree lure . I have been enjoying it for a few years now . I built a pwm to control the motor and to make the battery last a bit longer . With the pwm , I can control the speed good for trolling . I wish I had put it on many years ago. th-cam.com/video/qsHHnkaMSC8/w-d-xo.html&feature=share8

Very kind of you to say :D Thank-you Very much 👍
mate loving your videos - just wondering where you've been? your latest video was 5 months ago? Keep them coming :)
Thanks @Jnig593. Appreciate you saying that. I've been struggling a lot. But i have been working over the last month to get back into TH-cam and making some new videos. all will be explained soon hopefully. Cheers mate :D
@@CastingAwayDepression I understand it can be tough, but I look forward to seeing the updates and changes! Keeping all secrets on for the new videos. Need to know the good spots and where they're biting!
@@Jnig593 👌even though it might be awhile till i actually get the videos edited and posted. i'm trying hard to motivate myself.. Starting with WBHFC 2023!!!
@@CastingAwayDepression yeah sweet times, loved that video of last years, keen to see how you go with WBHFC - its not far till the competition now. Are you feeling fighting fit for a big ass fish? Ever wondered what might happen if a big ol' shark grabs your hook, does it just pull your kayak like a little boat. I'm would be afraid of being pulled in the water and loosing the kayak.
@@Jnig593 Yeah I'm super pumped for it. meeting someone who i met through the channel there to have a flick. i'll be most likely land based fishing the event this year so we can fish together. challenge myself a bit doing it all by foot... (Maybe ill bring the yak out) haha see if i can take out 1st place flattie again. I think most sharks would just cut though my line, though it would 100% tow my yak. Never get too stressed thinking about the sharks... I've had a couple go right by me. although it'll only take one aggressive one to ruin my fun.
Can you do a video of it set up on the rear pls m8
Yes i plan to eventually, Thanks for you Interest. 😉
i live in bundy and i know were that is
Local knowledge is hard to beat. cheers mate 👍
Nice video. Just a couple of questions if I may. What sort of depth in the entrance and does it dry at ow tide? Looks like a nice quiet spot to spend a night on my trailer sailer. Seeing that tinny come through, is that the cut through to Skyringville? Cheers.
Hey John. Glad you enjoyed the Vid. On an Average high tide I would say there is easily 1 Meter of clearance as you cross the rock wall. however you window will be limited. low tide is unpassable via boat. That hole though is at least a couple meters deep and you could just leave you boat anchored on the shoreline just inside the rock wall and catch it on the next high tide. 100% that is the cut through for Skyringville. It's a beautiful little spot. I've considered a night camp/fish right there. Good Luck mate. 👍
Many thanks for your reply. I'd looked at the satellite and seemed like it dried just wasn't sure how much there might be at high. 18" should give me clearance. I can pick a time for entering and leaving on high. I'll just anchor bow to shore and stern anchor so I can toss a line if I feel like it. Also.can have a beer without being bothered lol. Again many thanks
You have a kind soul. It's nice to see people trying to make a difference in the world even if it's one creature at a time. To them, your saving their world.
What bait where are you using
mostly just chunks of cooked prawn 😁
Nice one mate! Keen to see a video of your kayak build. That rear mounted motor setup looks sweet! Cheers, ASC!
Thanks Mate, at some stage I plan on making a video.
hey mate what type of boat did Mick have, the fella that helped with the anchor
I cant quite remember, i want to say it was a white poly-craft. Been awhile. may have been just a nice low sided white tinny about 4 meters long. I didn't want to include the footage of him helping me, as he had a younger son onboard. if it was you, or someone you know... tell them thanks for me 😉
@@CastingAwayDepression my old mans got an white polycraft, wouldve been my younger brother onboard with him. thats sick!

What bait where you using in this video cuz I’ve recently moved up here
Welcome Mate 👍I believe in this video I was using some Squid. But you cant go wrong with some Mullet Fillet or another personal favorite is cooked prawns cut into chunks ( about 4 pieces per prawn). Good Luck out there!
@@CastingAwayDepression cheers mate you too 👍🏻🎣
Hey mate what battery are you using with the motor??
50aH Lifepo4 is all I need. 😁
Mate. Looks good. My wife loves bundy and elliot heads. Just subscribed. Will be checking out ur other videos
Cheers Dream Path. 👍
Nice video. That rumbling noise sounds like your prop is sucking down some air. An anti-ventilation plate on the pylon just below water level should prevent it. Turbulent flow behind the round pylon adds to the problem so a streamlined fairing should also reduce vibration and air bubbles.
Very Interesting. I'll have to look up anti-ventilation plate. Since this video the trolling motor is now located on the rear. It sits much lower in the water now which has helped it greatly. But I'm always keen to seen if I can improve things. 👍
Hi Mate great video , I have the Nextgen 10 and T24 set up as yours , interested to see the set up in the back of the kayak with that esky and battery placement if you get a chance to do a quick video , here is a link to my video on my set up th-cam.com/video/A9dzvwpf2qA/w-d-xo.html A great video I had the same reaction to fast speed .
Hey mate, I'm heading out to burnett tomorrow if you would like to join!
Hey Thomas, Sorry I didn't see this earlier. Hope you had a good day out fishing. 👍
Hi there, I have been enjoying watching your videos but I have noticed you haven't produced one for awhile. I am thinking it is because you are busy with work into the new year. I hope that is the case and there is not unfortunate circumstances preventing you from producing some more informative videos. Are you Ok? Cheers
Hey Martin, Thanks Very much for your message. Very kind words. I've been out a couple times in December and had some good intentions of producing some more content. Unfortunately Both those times were incredibly windy and I didn't have much luck catching anything. Since then I've fallen on some hard times which has made it very difficult to get out for a fish. Believe me when I say I'm itching to get back out there... Fishing and making videos has been one of the only things I look forward to doing. Right Now I'm just trying to get through this rough patch. I have some unfinished video projects I should try to get done. Just been a bit hard on my Mental Health lately. I cant wait to get back out there. Thanks for checking in on me. Makes me feel good knowing that there are people who care and enjoy my content and look forward to more. Fingers crossed I can get back out there soon. Cheers Mate 👍
@@CastingAwayDepression Sorry to hear that mate. Would you be interested in coming out on my little 3.4m tinny sometime? Not to make a video but just for company. I can see that you have a real passion for fishing so if it would help make your day a bit better I would love to have your company on a trip one day. As I said I have a small tinny which my wife & I enjoy going on the water as often as weather & health permit. We are planning on going to Winfield on Monday. I only feel comfortable with 2 people in our size boat so if you would like a day out one day my wife said she will happily sit the day out. Let me know mate Cheers.
@@martinland333 Wow! Martin That's incredibly Generous of you. That made me smile. Unfortunately I have a very sick family member that I'm looking after closely. I appreciate the offer so much mate. Again Big Thanks to you and your wife for thinking of me. The kindness of strangers will never cease to amaze me. Best of luck up in Winfield mate. I hope you catch a Jack or two. I've heard of some large Lizards and Grunter up that way. 😁
@@CastingAwayDepression That is Ok mate. Please keep in touch as that offer does not have an end date. I hope you have access to any help with caring for your sick family member. I have been my wife's carer since 2019 when she broke her knee in 3 places stepping out of a boat at Monduran Dam. She was unable to walk on it until August last year when she had a what the surgeons describe as a Extremely Difficult knee replacement which took 5 1/2 hours on the operating table. Well since then we try to get out on our smaller boat now as often as possible. We haven't had much luck , only Grunters so far. We have tried Elliot Heads after watching your video, Walkers Point, Burnett Heads, Miara. My main one I am after is Flathead. My boat is only an old tinny with just a 3.3 HP Mariner with a 33LB thrust electric, It is not flash or fast but it suits us because I don't see the need to be travelling at great speeds. Ok mate take care & I hope things improve for you & your family member.
Good job, I’ll be definitely using some of your design. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome 😁 I'm Happy you got some inspiration from this. Cheers Mate 👍
