@fiction66 no offense taken. I prefer Japanese cars, and cars from 2000s. Before too much tech got put into vehicles but "new" enough where you can still get parts for them.

I haven't had any issues yet, and they are still in the car.

btw, my brother has this kinda car. Some 300 miles ago a hose popped and coolant leaked out while driving. He did drive it home. He then had it repaired by a garage, they replaced the hose and waterpump. (so i think it was the plastic tube on the backside of the engine that got replaced. Now, 300 miles later his heater in the cab doesnt heat up, and his fan starts running when on ignition, and does not stop running after the car has been switched off for some time. AND, there is sludge on the oil fill cap and in hoses. What would you diagnose from this? I thought it would be a good idea to start by replacing the thermostat, since the heater in the cab doesnt heat up so my guess is that that one is broken. Then i was hoping that the fan would react to the new thermostat in such a way that it wont keep running nor start running when the engine is just on ignition and not yet started. But the sludge is the stuff i worry most about. To me it says: Leaking head gasket. But i have no clue how long this sludge is there. If it was there when it went to the garage. The garage said they checked everything, and they said he had not damaged the engine because the distance was short enough, and it had not overheated too much etc. They seem to have done a pressure test, according to my brother. He is not a technician, nor am i, or engineer or mechanic or how you wanna call it. But what i understand from what he says is that they did a compression test on the cilinders. But in my opinion you cant determine if the headgasket is blown by a compression test, right? You need to have some gadget ontop of the coolant reservoir with some kinda fluid in it that reacts and turns colors, right? Im no mechanic, as said. But seen many videos and have watched a lot of mechanics work. The reason i ask this is simply this: I am able to replace the thermostat, the fan. The head gasket is another thing, i think i should leave that to people with a bit more knowledge. But is it worth it to replace the thermostat and fan if the headgasket is also gone?

I'd rather be safe than sorry. Plus, it's a good habit to do.

Honestly, I don't know if it matters if it's upside down or not.

Sometimes on the other side of the bolt there is a square nut, if it spins you will be "tighting" forever. You would have to hold the nut with a pair of pliers while you tighten it.

@lsccarvideos indeed, i think it might be just frozen or the key is messed up, i mean i tried with a hot water to warm the key and the door but it still didn't work

@kenn12341 could try graphite spray in the key hole too.

The smoke depends. Our smoke was from the cleaner we had used that was burning off. The color of smoke matters too. White=coolant, blue=oil, black=fuel/carbon.

There might be a clip still clipped on somewhere

@ worked out great. Now the glow plug has signal. Time to do the thermostats when they arrive this week.

@@lsccarvideos two bolts under the intake manifold side are hard to get. I have to go buy a swivel and try again tomorrow. I gave up after I figured my 3/8 ratchet with extension won’t fit 😮‍💨

Go to your nearest auto parts store and ask for a glass-mat battery. They're more expensive but are designed for auto stop/start cars. Designed to be drained stay down then charged back up again. In fact, that's healthy for the battery

No all cars have a light in the sun visor mirror.

You don't have to replace the entire assembly. I did because the exterior plastic was gone and just swapped the bulb over.

Right. Maybe I’m explaining it incorrectly but the red trim that should be illuminated around brake light isn’t working. I have brake light and signal but signal is blinking faster on that side

@qweenofheartz2 oh gotcha. Yes I believe that's an integrated LED into the taillight assembly. So you would have to change it out.
