Heck yeah my man
@@bdfree901 thx for watching!
Beautiful route and a tough trip - bravo! I did the Beartrap River about 12-years ago with a group of 5 in 2-canoes. We wanted to camp on Sunday Lake but the PMA was reserved by somebody else so we pushed through to Iron Lake. I'm a wet-footer but admit I wish my feet were dry, especially during the offseason of early-spring and late-fall. What kind of knee high boots are you wearing? They look neoprene? Thanks for sharing your trip!
@@BradfordKaneJr hey, thanks so much for watching! The Beartrap is a must route and my favorite way to get to Iron! I used to wet foot too and found these Muck Forager boots for my Quetico trip last year. They work great but I finally sprung a leak on this trip so I can’t say that they are durable for multiple trips. That said I beat them up really good in Quetico, lots of portage miles. Perfect for canoe trips other than that. I am looking for a replacement now.
Bravo! You just keep it up man. This is awesome and so glad you share your adventures. All your efforts are so appreciated 👍
@@tyblack3487 thanks my friend! I appreciate the support!
Hey. I love your vids, thanks for bringin us along. Quick question…with all the different types of canoing you do, do you have multiple canoes, and if so, are any of them dedixated solo canoes?
@@benjilake really appreciate it! Yes, I use a dedicated solo canoe for my trips. Northstar solo. Having the seat in the middle of the boat is helpful for weight distribution and steering. Paddling a one person canoe is really enjoyable and it only weighs 30 lbs!
Need those knee high boots.
@@potcrak1 nice to have dry feet for sure!
Awesome man, way to grind it out! I know when I'm in a remote area, cant find any sign of a path and its a long portage I sometimes I freak-out a little on the inside. Was there a moment on this trip where that happened? Cheers!🍻
@@puddlejumper-sk haha ya, thx for watching. Ya, I was thinking I may have to turn around and go back the way I came! I was determined to figure it out but I was definitely concerned!
Was your first night camp on Thunder Lake?
@@joelwondra yes it was! Well done!
@SoloSchmitty The big tree at the front of the site gave it away. I stopped at that site for lunch last summer on a day trip from Gull where we were staying. I vowed I would get back to stay on that site someday.
@@joelwondra it’s an awesome tree for sure. Bet it’s old!
What an awesome trip, enjoyed every minute of it ❤
@@SolotheSeries thank you much! And no bears 😉
Hopefully Sealline warrantees that pack for you. That looked like a glue failure. Your pack looked pristine otherwise. Big bummer, especially the mental toll it takes when you are solo in a remote area.
Thanks for the comment. There was no signs of issues prior to the failure. I just cut my losses and bought classic style portage pack and liner. I appreciate you watching!
100 mph tape always a life saver. I repaired dry bag lower shpulder strap attachment with it and held up fine for the trip. I have about 5 yards wrapped on the shaft of my double bladed paddle for repairs, deep cuts, or sprained ankles. Enjoyed your adventure.
I cant say I have heard of that but I just googled it, nice! I normally bring a couple feet and on a whim threw that roll in last minute. I used it all and could have used some more but it held. I will never go with out a roll again. Good idea putting it on the paddle! Thanks for the recommendation and watching the video!

I did not know that. Thanks for sharing that and watching the video!
Not really a tarp tent though. Just a tent without a floor.
Wow, super jealous. Was just by Ensign (took Birch to Knife), was dreaming of seeing some serious wildlife but just saw a beaver

What flys do you use. Colorado backpacker just getting into fly fishing
@@Kyle-jg9zl hey, thx for watching. I’m pretty novice on the fly fishing myself. I just like to throw dry flies. I have had success with parachute Adam’s. Seems to work for most situations I have been in on the Alpine lakes and streams.
Enjoyed the video . Good job

I want to ask what lake it is. But- I think it being a secret, and having to figure it out without the internet is more important.

Hi, thanks for watching. I used a garmin in reach.
@@SoloSchmitty Thanks for answering. I've watched all of your Quetico series and the Border Route series. Great Stuff!!! I'm also a fan of the Buffalo River.

I absolutely love your content!! :)
I really appreciate it! Thanks for taking the time to say that, means alot! Your channel looks cool, I will check it out!
super video ! I also enjoyed the music ! I was wondering if a pair of lightweight trekking poles would have helped, especially on the down hill to absorb some impact. You really covered some ground and elevation gain/loss.
Hey thanks for checking it out and taking the time to comment! I have never used hiking poles mainly because I am carrying a tripod and camera. Otherwise yes I think poles would have been helpful. I have hike in september that will be about 60 miles off trail so I am looking at some poles for that trip. Will also be potential of snow and glacier crossing so probably going to go that route. Any recommendation?
@@SoloSchmitty Years ago when I was still young enough to tackle high mountain backpack treks I got myself a pair of LEKI trekking poles. LEKI is a German company it was started after World War II, by the Lenharts who were refugees from Czech Bohemia, they left their country in 1946 without possessions. They made a new home in Germany. At the time I bought them, early to mid 1980's they were considered the 'top of the line' in terms of quality. I put these poles through many years of some tough trips and they got beat up pretty good but they always did the job. You can still get that brand at REI but they will run you $ 150-$200, if you can afford that I would say they would be well worth it ! I also have a pair of very inexpensive trek poles I got at Walmart a few years back, like $ 15 they are Ozark brand I believe and quite frankly am surprised they have held up as well, but in truth they have not been put through the same rigor and stress as the LEKI poles. I was taking a look at your route I was wondering why you didn't start from Battle Park trailhead instead of Hunter trailhead but I am guessing you chose Hunter cause it was only a couple miles from the pavement whereas Battle Park looks like 10 miles from pavement- although Battle Park would have been closer to Solitude Lake, etc. I have done most of my high altitude trips here in the Eastern Sierra but sort of retired from it recently as I am almost 70 now with some recent lower back and shoulder injuries. But maybe I will get up to Cloud Peak Wilderness, someday, who knows ?
Had never heard of this trail. Just found your channel while researching Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge and your video popped up. Look forward to checking out the rest of your videos. 🤝🏻
Awesome, Im glad you found me! I appreciate you watching and let me know if you have any questions about the hikes.
Very nice place. 👍🏻
Yes it is, thanks for checking out the video and the comment!
Any issues with bears ?
I didn’t see any sign of bears when I was there.
Beautiful scenery and some magnificent images captured on camera! One minor suggestion, though. With all the open source music available, surely you can come up with more than a single clip of ONE song for an hour long video! It would help. A lot!
Thanks for watching.
What kind of canoe is that?
North wind solo 👍
@@SoloSchmitty love your videos. Got a trip coming up in the Killarney provincial park and I've always struggled bringing a sit on top kayak through the portages and trying to find a lightweight solo canoe in my price range. 2,400 max. Any recommendations? I'm more of a fishermen than a paddler
@@devanschmitt8134 thank you! This canoe is a good choice. 30 lbs is great for the portages. Enjoy your trip, Killarney looks like an awesome spot! Look for a used one. You could get that range

Have you got any of the purple and blue ones? Amazing black walleye. A real beauty
I got a really blue one in Quetico last year (I got it on a video on my channel) Never knew there were purple ones! That would be cool to see! Thanks for watching and the info, much appreciated!
That's too much paddling and not enough fishing. lol respect
Haha ya I think you are right. Could have stayed on any of those lakes for a week and never got bored! Next time. Thx for watching and taking the time to comment!
Nice trip! Heading back to Sarah in June for the exact reasons you stated in your summary. Spent a week just on Sarah last year and fell in love. Didn’t even get to explore it all.
Thanks! Ya I can see why. Fishing aside it’s a pretty lake. Could get there pretty quick to which is cool! Thanks for watching, I appreciate it!
@@SoloSchmitty We move pretty high speed, low drag. Got into Sarah on Day 1 but got a tow to PP from LaTourelles. Glad we did, Moose Lake can get angry and it was howling. My kid was sleeping in the bow as we crossed Sarah to our campsite. Great memories.
@@mattg2935 A tow is the way to go. Nice work bringing the little one, that’s no small effort but definitely a memory maker!
I'm an old fart who just discovered your Quitico series. I'm about to start my third (this one) because I've done that trip, close to your route, 5 times. The real reason I'm commenting is to ask if I recognized a Razorback hat on your cranium???
Yes, it is an Arkansas hat. Not specific to the razorbacks though. I spend alot of the winter in Arkansas and Missouri hiking and canoeing. The Buffalo River in Arkansas is a special spot for me and I have a handful of videos on my channel from there. Cool you have done this Quetico route, its a beauty. Thanks for watching and I appreciate you commenting!
Awesome video man! Just found it! I’v spent an awful lot of time in this area from doing bomber from the hunter trailhead and west ten sleep along with cloud from west side and multiple other attempts of peaks and repeated peaks due to weather was not able to accomplish them. Love the mountains. So unique in comparison to any other ranges.
Cool! Sounds like you could teach me a lot about the area. I wish I was closer. I really didn’t know what to expect from this area and was so impressed! I definitely want to come back soon. If you have any must see routes please let me know. Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate it!
@@SoloSchmitty I love the first part of the trail the most from the hunter to solitude as it’s where iv spent most time. It’s just beautiful. Being up there on a week day is just amazing. No one around or anything.
@@sawyerhaupt yes! That site I had the first night has to be a top 10 of all time for me!

I'd take a 2 week vacation in the Canadian wilderness over vacationing down South any day ! It looks so peaceful and beautiful scenery ❤ Do you use a Thermacell to repell the mosquitos and black flies?
I hear ya on that! It’s hard to beat. After this trip I will definitely consider bringing a thermacell. Would have been really nice at camp. Good idea! I appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment!
Watched every episode 4 times I bet now, and every bit of 4 bottles of wine along with it. Had already spoken to Bruce at Wabakimi Outfitters to book my first solo this September, but your video changed my mind and booked Quetico last week instead. Fervent follower to the channel now, bravo 👏
