In the field of engineering, innovation play a key role. India is very much behind in innovation and technology. The present government has no credibility or understanding how to inculcate innovation, skill development and nack for engineering ideas in the people who are engineering students and science graduates. The process must begin from school education upwards. The maths syllabus must be overhauled to remove commercial maths materials and bring in advanced mensuration, trigonometric calculations, understanding engineering drawing, solid geometry etc. Similar changes needs to be made in physical and biological sciences where practical work and emphasis on self made projects to carry more marks than written work. It will take about two generations to erase. bania thinking from the student's mind acquired from family through generations and brain wash them with scientific understanding, knowledge and innovative skills, effectively saying, this will mean cutting the lifeline of this bania regime.

I agree a 100% on what Rajan has said. Producing engineers or doctors in large numbers does not make a great country but the quality of the doctors that come out makes all the difference. The greater the emphasis on merit than on caste and creed would go a long way. Our leaders are seeking the easy option of earmarking a certain set of seats thereby lowering the standards rather than the difficult option of improving the living conditions, educational facilities like books, good teachers and better schools and inculcating the habit of hard work and discipline in children. Consequently we get substandard engineers, doctors etc. Smart people will rise irrespective of the opportunity which may be about 1% but the majority are in the intermediate level of opportunity related excellence. Leaders who lack education, which is generally the case, always think that shortcuts to will yield results. Yes it does, but the wrong way. Just as we have leaders who lack leadership we produce doctors and engineers who lack the skills required to compete in the world. Let us not go by one Indra Nooyi or one Sundar Pichhai because they are in that 1% that will rise irrespective of any situation.

Every developed country in the world have developed their current technology from their primitive technology development cycle. Here I'm India we have killed our primitive technology, that primitive technology can be used as a platform for current technology but have killed that primitive technology, that's why we are forced to manufacture technology produced by other countries.
