CHEAPEST TOKYO STREET FOOD - Oyama Happy Road
Oyama Happy Road is said to be one of the oldest and longest shotengai (shopping arcades) in Tokyo. It first appeared after WWII, when the street was lined with stalls offering food and essentials.
One of the charm points of Oyama Happy Road is that many of the small businesses here are family-owned. Sometimes you will see two or three generations working together. The withered signboards and the older folks reading newspapers while waiting for customers are just some of the charming points of this area.
GETTING THERE:
Oyama Happy Road is located near Oyama Station, which is on the Tobu Tojo Line that connects Ikebukuro to various cities in Saitama, including the famous Kawagoe.
Oyama Station is only three stops away on the local train line from Ikebukuro Station. The South Exit directly leads to Oyama Happy Road
STALLS:
Yakitori Hamakei - Chicken Skewers and Karaage:
Yakitori Hamakei is located just a few steps away from MARUJU. Their main attraction is the large variety of chicken skewers, which usually retail for 80 to 140 yen each. You can watch them being freshly made.
Soft Cream Pierrot - Delicious Japanese Crepes:
Pierrot, a shop with a retro atmosphere, has been in business for over 40 years.
If you can't read Japanese, it might be slightly difficult to figure out what to order. Their standard fillings are apple, banana, strawberry, and chocolate, which can be paired with cream or custard or enjoyed plain. They retail for 300 to 400 yen
Meat Arai - Juicy Cutlet:
Meat Arai has been around since 1936. They offer fresh, high-quality meat for home cooking, as well as fried snacks.
And the reference to Metallica is a must-see for any fan.

The gentleman has good slurping and chopstick skills. At the end of the day all that matters is if the patron enjoys the food. Koreans are going to be the biggest critics of these booths. I know because I am Korean myself.
The portions and the prices are a bargain.

I tried this at Otoya, they serve classic Japanese dishes that all taste really good but this was a special menu item that is only for the strong ;)

Is this the main branch? They have 2 branches on the same street.
This is not the main branch based on the address I looked up. This one is at 8, Myeongdong 10-gil, Jung-gu, Seoul while the main branch is situated at 29, Myeongdong 10-gil, Jung-gu, Seoul. But the taste and business probably is the same ;)
were you able to take a look at their parking? i will be staying here and planning on renting car.
Hi, yes the hotel has a multi level underground parking, but it might get full in the evenings and it might be a little difficult to manoeuvre with a bigger car.

Hi, yes we booked online, but through a broker (Line - Korean Google) but you should have a Korean phone number for which you can get from the airport. It cost us about 200 EUR for 5 days but the price varies based on the car and company you use.
I walk by Pirineu en Boca almost every day. We've been meaning to try it.
The steak and sausage were the winners for me ;)

Do you know where to find the best quality shops in this arcade? I am planning on going this summer and buying a tenor saxophone.
If I remember right there were not so many shops for saxophones, the shop choice is limited but the product catalogue should be pretty good. I don't know a specific shop that I could recommend but I suggest checking the surrounding area of the arcade because some shops are outside and you can compare the prices. And try to negotiate a little if you would buy.

I can not say for sure but I would recommend negotiating a little, and I found out that some of the instruments are second hand so there might be more chance on negotiating with them. Any way good luck hope you get a good deal 😊
