Both the 34th and 55th Regiment served in the Crimean War 1854-56, the 55th being involved from the beginning fighting at the Battles of the Alma, Inkerman and the siege of Sebastopol. Okay, I accept that I'm biased. However, be that as itt may they were the finest band of any Infantry Regiment of the line.
Love the Bass Drummers' shoes :-) and at 17:07, "Sarie Marais", an old South African classic from the Anglo Boer war era.

Saw the band and drums back in 1984 when the the battalion did public duties in London.

Only just found this film today. What a fabulous memento of a Proud Infantry Regiment and their Regimental Band and Corps of Drums. I have a copy of The Band's CD, "BATTLE HONOURS" which is recommended if you can find a copy. My father-in-law served in The Border Regiment in WW2 and was stationed in Carlisle Castle, also saw service with the Regiment in India and Burma.
I am looking for my dad's Army records. He was a private in the Border Regiment in the Second World War. I don't know where he was stationed. I am at a loss. Thank you.

Very interesting piece, particularly as I served in their successor regiment after they amalgamated with the ex, 4th of Foot, The King's Own Royal Regiment in 1959. Becoming The King's Own Royal Border Regiment. Nickname, 'The Lion's of England' The Lion being the badge of the King's Own and the nickname continuing in THEIR Successor's The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment (King's, Lancashire and Border).
