River Coilte (Drumnadrochit)
A classic tight and technical creek in the great Glen. It needs a lot of rain but provides 6km of continuous fun grade 4/4+.

River Grudie (Easter Ross)

Whitewater kayaking on one of several Grudie's in northern Scotland. This one is heavily dam affected so needs a lot of rain, despite it's huge catchment in the Fannichs. Best in high flow when it is a phenomenal 2km blast with continuous sections, powerful falls and a few very chunky holes. Some clean ledge falls in particular feel like we stole them from Quebec! Watch out for the cave on the ...

Some raw footage of kayaking the fantastic river Farigaig near Inverness from a run with Murray Peden last year. This a great river with some good low volume falls and slides. Loads of tight technical grade 4/5 on clean bedrock. Footage is from the main waterfall section which is about 3km long. Below here is a steep bouldery gorge down to Loch Ness that is entertaining and very scenic, but usu...

Kayaking on the excellent Top and Upper gorges of the Carron at high flows last year with Thom Brown. Technical grade 4 in low water and a chunky grade 5 when high. It's one of the coolest sequences of rapids in Scotland and has escaped being in any guidebook! More good grade 4 sections upstream and downstream of this.

River Ling

The river Ling flows from Loch Cruoshie in Wester Ross through some of the most remote terrain in the British mainland to meet the sea at Killilan. Possibly the most remote stretch of whitewater in Scotland although there are other good contenders, The Ling is definitely the 'jewel in the crown' of adventurous Scottish rivers with high quality sections from grade 3-5, stunning scenery and multi...

    I was lucky enough to get some beginner experience on the River Dee between Aberdeen and Banchory, and the first time I went over a drop of maybe a foot high between rocks, it was a fair thrill 😊. I can only try to imagine what a drop of those heights would feel like. You must get thumped down into your seat hard? Never heard of that river and I’ve been to Ullapool quite a few times, but not off the beaten track. Great stuff 👍🏻

      @@duncanstewart5221 Hi Duncan, Yeah I based just north of Dingwall, been up since September from the Wirral and live here now. I'm a retired WW paddler, my best friends found better jobs and wives and then it becomes too hard to find people who you can trust / available to do good grade rivers. Fortunately I was asked to go sea kayaking which I thought how hard can that be!! But after going on some of the biggest tide races in the UK I soon found a new home... grade 4 / 5 twice a day and some days too scary. So now I 'ocean playboat' with my best mate heading out to Penhryn Mawr, North Stack, Bitches and often overfalls 3,4,5 km offshore surfing and playing huge waves. I have to say watching you guys I really want to go WW paddling, I'm very envious ;) Have a good'un.

    • @duncanstewart5221
      @duncanstewart5221 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ahh no gauge unfortunately. I tend to go off the other local runs. The Einig and Carron have similar catchment so if they are high there's a good chance the Douchary is in. Also the Lael on route from the south should have a bit of water in it.

    • @duncanstewart5221
      @duncanstewart5221 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Cheers Matthew! Yeah it's an absolute belter of a run. Doesn't need too much rain, similar to get the etive/Roy running decently as it's got a decent catchment. If the Einig/Carron/Cuileig in the surrounding area are at medium/high or higher you stand a good chance of catching it! Have done it with a lot less water than this and I think it could handle a bit more too (although you'd need to be careful not to get swept into any of the big falls) Logistics are a wee bit tricky but the estate are very welcoming and have been happy to let us drive up for a small fee. If you're going in, let me know and I'll put you in touch with them!
