Amtrak 553 with Nathan M5 horn
มุมมอง 26K17 ปีที่แล้ว
Amtrak 553 runs west through Berkeley with a Nathan M5 horn mounted on the locomotive, CDTX 2052. Filmed from Gilman st in Berkeley to Shellmound in Emeryville.
Why is it in black and white?
A wonderful way to travel!
What a unique sounding horn for the perfect engine
Thats 100% sure 8306
Fantastic horn on a fantastic locomotive. Shame that the FRA's taste in horns is absolute booty.
WTH HOW?????
Well, you take 4 bolts off at Sacramento, swap out crappy K5LA for M5, then tighten bolts back up and go for a spin.
@@amtk415w you should do it again 🤣
The M-5 when approaching sounds like a K-5LA going away at speed. Harmony is the same, but in a lower key.
It's not Amtrak it's CDTX
Some say the rst5 is king. But M5 all the way! There is no better Robert Swanson knew what was up!!!!
Coaster and Amtrak have M5 horns too!!
Also the sound of Fairbanks - Morse H-16 -44's through Sycamore, Ohio in the '50's!! More good memories!!
The sound of B&O E8's and E 9's through Defiance, Ohio in the very late '50's through to Amtrak! Great memories!!
beautiful sounding horn
Goosebumps.
I bet that the engineer was just blowing the horn that much because it sounds awesome! xD
Amsome
Wonderful
Wonderful!
sounds AWESOME
Thats slightly out of tune but it still sounds like 1951.
Jasper, where is your trainz videos??? Why did delete them???
So the story behind this is that some, now FORMER, Amtrak Engineer who put the M5 on CDTX 2051 got fired for modifying a FRA fitted horn (K5LA) with a FRA rejected horn (M5). It sounded great but came with a price.
Martinez Sub. Productions uh, no. That's not what happened. But it sure was fun.
If that story is true....... It came with a price, but the mans a goddamn genius!
In fact! Why not have the M5 fitted to both 2051 and 2052?
That's a true story why the hell is that not FRA approved doesn't make sense
@@dougc190 It's cause new inventions phase out the old technology to make it history. But it is mostly cause of people that hate horns and live near the tracks.
With a wrench.
kk
Uhh yeah it is. That's my horn and I was running.
Thats awesome!
Is it true that you were fired for it?
no thats not an M5 i dont think
it is
That absolutely is. The sound is unmistakable
@@NorthEasternMotionProductions i commented this 8 years ago i had no idea what i was talking about why reply now?
@@WooferCookerz pure boredom tbh
It's an M5
that train has a bad sounding horn :( shouldnt it have a Nathan K5LA instead of a Nathan M5
Bad? well that's subjective... to me anything that isn't a K5 sounds good. According to the comments I'm seeing, apparently the engineer put it on and got fired for some BS about the M5 not being FRA approved - despite sounding much nicer than the K5LAs you hear today.
Simple answer to that amazing guy getting fired: The FRA has really bad taste in horns. But if you think that's bad, Transport Canada is even worse! If you're a Passenger System in Canada, they FORCE you to use these absolutely ATROCIOUS horns!
That’s the problem... it sounds nice when they want horns to sound ugly to grab attention... lol
I could see why it would be against a company policy to alter the equipment but I couldn’t see it being illegal. A horn is a horn, the job of a train is to be seen and heard, and that’s what it’s doing. He shouldn’t have been TERMINATED. Maybe written up I could see, but not fired
@@superbaddy4 I did not get fired for swapping the horn
why did they do this? its awesome!!!!
It's an M5 but it would be easier to tell if this vid was not shot in 240p on a shit camera.
ah an M5 in perfect tune on a p32-8wh great combo right there..and awsome vid!!
Sure does sound like it started spinning its drivers when it hit the curve off the bridge. Great vid!!
A beautiful, perfectly tuned M5..nathan don't make horns this good anymore, maybe a maintenance headache but this horn sounds so amazing..thanks for showing how a real horn sounds like
That's obviously an M5, you could never confuse a K5LA with an M5...
if only they put a sick horn on CDTX 8311.
OMG too good to be true..............
omg that was SWEET
That's defiantly a M5!
SPLENDID VIDEO!!! 5*****
I work for Amtrak, and I've never heard an M5 on #2052 before! But for good reason:this video was shot prior to its overhaul roughly 1 1/2 to 2 years ago…before I joined Amtrak.Pretty unique horn!
I never knew 2052 had a M5!!!
sounds great!
Good video, that was a great location you found there!
Fantastic. Love the angle.
Nice work Alex, very well shot.
Sweet!
Nice shot from a rarely photographed location Ramosman!
Awsome awsome awsome!
Yes, tuned by Bob Packer of Colorado.
Too bad M's were such a maintenance headache, they sound great!
Were h horns ever a maintenance headache
Like the h5 or the 2 h6 horns
@@denasanders2624 worse than the M’s.
@@mafarnz oof
@@denasanders2624 there were prototype m horns so it makes sense that they were worse
I'm 100% sure it's an M5 horn. I'm friends with the person it belongs to.
