    Personally, for years I used my mortgage as a tax write off. I then PAID off my mortgage and car loans... and went 100% into 401K and HSA contributions, and now file taxes with the standard deduction .. and pay LESS in taxes, while my 401k and HSA and after-tax accounts GROW (a lot).

    HSA Account is the BEST Stock Trading Account there is. Tax free money in ... NO Taxes on trades ... and NO Taxes on money withdrawn. I only started using my HSA this way 3 years ago .. I max the contributions and have gone from an HSA balance of $0 .. to now $50,000, almost a 50% return in 3yrs. Each month I simply cost average purchase my favorite stocks a few shares at a time... it's brainless and a NO Brainer.

    why not address the fact that to fund a roth 401k requires more money than a traditional 401k? The money spent on paying taxes now for a roth 401k could just be invested now, giving you more investable income now that will out grow a roth 401k.

    HMMM so with the change to where catchup goes, and if it is based on Medicare taxes, as an HCE that means you can't even do the withholding of salary to get down to it, since Medicare is still taxed on it, even though income tax is not. Yikes. Maxing out everything for 2025, then switching everything to Roth 401.

    “Not an investment vehicle by choice” typically refers to an entity, account, or financial instrument that is not primarily designed or intended to serve as a means for investment or profit-making, but might inadvertently be used as one. Sounds spot on what an HSA is.

    Let's say you're one of the upper 10% of earners and make $400k and pay $100k in taxes. You'll love it because you will be able to easily handle the inflation. Now, you're making $40k and pay next to nothing in taxes. You'll struggle to keep up with your day to day expense. Tariffs would be a windfall for the top 10% who pay 60% of the Ftaxes at present.

    You were the one who misunderstood the question. The question was whether the HSA contributions should count towards her 15% budget allocation to investing. His answer was “no, make your HSA contribution and also hit the 15%.” That’s the conservative response. Advising that people invest their full HSA as a general rule seems irresponsible. Some consideration needs to be given on their likely timeframe for needing access to that money.

      @ he answered the question that you should count HSA towards the savings rate. Why don’t you think HSA shouldn’t be counted as a retirement vehicle or the 15%? You should invest the full HSA and don’t touch it. No considerations need to be given for this scenario

    • @v-2010
      @v-2010 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Jericho9696 No, he literally didn’t even address this as a budget allocation question. I didn’t say it shouldn’t be counted as an investment vehicle. I keep the minimum cash balance in my personal HSA and invest the rest and I’m “planning” to keep my HSA for retirement. I have the income and other assets to afford my max out of pocket if something catastrophic happened. It’s a great “plan.” The empirical evidence suggests that it’s a plan most will fail to follow. Dave gives advice based on the evidence. As a CPA who has spent most of my career working with capital management companies, I disagree with much of Dave’s advice but I understand where it comes from. If you go to Dave Ramsey then you’re going to get the most conservative advice. The simple fact of the matter is that this guy put “Dave Ramsey” and capital “WRONG” into a title for clicks. He didn’t actually care about the content.

    • @Jericho9696

Dave is wrong about the HSA, and I didn’t find this as a clickbait at all. We are all entitled to our opinions, including you spending an hour arguing with a complete stranger on the internet, which tells me you’re the type of person who loves proving everyone wrong. The HSA is definitely a good investment vehicle, but he is not disagreeing with that, he is saying it would not count towards the 15% for retirement that he recommends in his plan. He makes a plan for the average American not the savvy investor. The average American would not keep money in their HSA till retirement, but rather when hard times come, pull it out earlier.

  • @ReadyAF1
    @ReadyAF1 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

    The gains on these ideas are largely taxed at income tax rates which, for many high next worth individuals, are taxed every year at 32-37%. This makes them inefficient as taxes consume too much of the interest. Therefore large sums of cash are better held in stable, highly liquid investments that are taxed at capital gains rates. One example might be the BOXX ETF, though I’m not giving financial advice or making a recommendation.

    You’re also forgetting that you still have liquid viability of the money sustained in the HYSA as opposed to it being gone. Yes if you plan to sell to cut depreciation down then maybe pay it off but you still have the risk of finding a buyer. If you plan to keep the depreciating vehicle and have 50k or more in a HYSA and you have a high income then it’s more worth it to take the loan.

    I have the cash to pay my model 3 2025 and I got a 1.99 Apr so I didn’t buy it cash because it doesn’t make sense. Cars are liabilities and I plan on having it for a decade. I earn 4.2-4.5 APR on the 42k and the Apr for the Tesla is 1.99 so even after my HYSA tax it’s still more money saved on the 5 year loan.
