The Nearly Historical Railroad
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 15 ต.ค. 2018
I like to create things. One of those things is models of places on earth. These models specifically include Railroads.
The Colorado Southern is one such Railroad C&S. Also the Denver South Park and Pacific Railroad DSP&PR. Along with other freelance Railroad locations.
We model things. Try to make them look real, and in some cases try to make it historically correct.
This is not necessarily to show you how to model. Rather how we are doing it. If you learn something along the way, all the better.
Our Model Railroad is done in HO scale, and includes a large HOn3 section.
We are using digitrax DCC, along with DCC Specialties.
My father and I work on it along with a few other talented modelers. We build model kits as well as scratch build or Kitbash.
We build mountains, scenery, lay flex and hand laid track. Use some Fast tracks turnouts.
We will start with train layout updates on this channel.
Hope you will follow us and get some enjoyment from our world we are creating.

See our large Model Trian layout & the friends we enjoy it with. Custom built Bridge now in place!
This is a large HO scale model train layout at my Dads house. I work on it with him along with some other great friends we have made a long the way. Everyone was at one place at one time. So I got a little video of all of us at the train layout.
We talked about what we where working on with the layout and ran some trains some. Jim taught Scott how to sharpen X-acto blades. Turns out you can use them for a real long time.
I ended up working some on the bridge at Romley. So I have some nice video of the bridge at the end.
We upgrade our Digitrax wireless system with the UR93 Duplex Radio Transceiver. The old UR92 always seemed to have connection issues. No mater where we put it or how it was wired. As soon as you re-started it it would be good for a while. We have had no issue with the new UR93.
We also have a WiFi system using JRMI so we can run trains with our phones. This has always worked well.
Thanks for watching.

I am a world builder. Been working on and off during the summer making a scratch built bridge out of materials I had laying around. It is built in the likeness of the bridge at Romley Colorado. Also known as Morley bridge. It goes over Pomeroy Gulch that connects into Chalk Creek. This was built by the Denver, South Park and Pacific Railroad in 1881. My version will have two tracks going over i...

Some tips on hand building a turnout. I had one more turnout to build for the Romley area. But I did not have the right Fast Tracks jig to do it. So I have been putting it off. It can be done but it takes a little more work. I will tell you some tips on doing this. [ Bonus Content ] Dad has been doing a lot of cleaning up around the Train Layout. I removed the temporary track running through Ro...

A quick update along with some railfanning on our model railroad. Time to get serious about the track plan at Romley. Really been wanting to get this area done. It is the first thing you see when you come into our train room. My Dad has been fixing up some tank cars. So we are going to run a train a few times so you can get a look at the cars. Thanks for watching. Update 138

I was in Alaska not to long ago. And the day before I come back to the lower 48 I tracked down this Train Club. They let me take a look around and shoot some video. This layout has some great scenery and it was a great group of people. If you are in the area I would encourage you to stop by. Thank you everyone that was at the Northern Lights Model Railroad Club the evening, you were very welcom...

This got Silly. Or something. I was working on a new video and this video happened instead. We had gone on a trip and I shot a little video on my phone of the Train Ride we went on. Also got video of a Model Train Club I have not been to before. Once I got home I started to edit this video. And a memory from my childhood of a "Scary" scene in a movie kept popping into my head. So I got to messi...

Our Woodland Scenics Static Kind just was not working well for us. in fact we have not been using it after some test a while back. So I thought we might have to buy the optional power supply for it. But I made it work without doing that. Dad worked on a new cattle pen. We needed another one because we have a large cattle operation on our HO scale train layout. We "inherited" a Large model train layout. We had to cut it all up to move it to another state. Over the years my Father, some great friends and I have put it back together. Upgraded it it to DCC. Added on to it and gave it our own touch. We also connected it to an HOn3 layout in the same room. Just like a shelf layout, I had this small area that has big plans. But in the mean time I am tired of looking at an empty piece of wood. So I threw down some quick ground cover. And now this area looks much better. I did add some trees later on. Someday it will be Alpine Station Colorado. In this video you will get to see a scratch built building I built many many years ago. Awesome job on that bridge 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽…had been wondering if you guys were still building that layout…
Indeed we are. Thanks.
I like the bridge! The lonely tree bridge!!
Lol. Hopefully, someday it will get a lot more trees in the background.
Nice to see everybody together and progress still being made. Miss the weekly videos but I am sure you are getting a lot more done without having to worry about putting together a video. Thanks for sharing. Until next time.
Thanks
Thanks for posting. I have subscribed. Cheers Ken
Thank you.
Cool to see you all again. Have fun.
Another fun “quick” video. Glad to see everyone in attendance. Awesome layout.
Great to see all of you again. The layout is looking great.
I always enjoy your videos. I believe you could increase the number of your subscribers and views if you altered your name to include "model railroad" in the title. People searching for content like yours don't see you.
CANADA loves your channel
Thank you.
Can you put a camera on a flatbed and give us a new run right round the whole layout? The lights on the mine huts look cool. :)
Nice! Good to get caught up. In the end of the narrow gauge, what bridge kit is that? I am looking for a similar bridge, same style, for a single track.
I scratch built it. I hope to put out a video with a little more details of how I did it.
Nice to see a Train running....Need more of that. Layout looks good, see ya! Bob
We had an open house the other day and gave some people your contact information about trees.
I like seeing the actual work going into the project. not just oh here it is kinda thang.
Nice to have you back.
Good to see you again!
Thought you have been abducted by aliens. We all know how life gets in the way of things, thanks for the video.
Nice to see a new video! The bridge looks amazing!
That's got to be one of my favorite HO layouts on TH-cam!
Great to see you guys again, the bridge is awesome Don. Great job building very realistic looking. Take care of yourself and your family.😇👍👌
Work has a habit of ruling your life - it cost me a marriage and four kids. Hobbies get blown away when you can't be at home for as long, BUT it will wait for you. It won't divorce you or demand alimony while it waits. Keep it going with whatever time you've got as it still should give you respite.
you are still around!
Indeed we are.
Good to see you again, Don. Cool looking bridge. Don't be a stranger. :)
Glad to see you are still kicking, was getting worry....Your Bridge at Romley looks " Great!!", hope to see more videos. Bob
Wow, you are still around! 😉 Life has a way of changing things. Great to see you and your dad again...oh and the layout! Thanks Don!! ...Claude
Glad to see you, been a while. Love the bridge, well done.
Thanks for the update. Life happens. I understand and appreciate whatever you got, whenever you get it. 😉
Thanks
The bridge looks great.
Liking that bridge!
Glad to see the layout again, Life does get in the way of building a RR. I thought you did a great job building the bridge. I scratch build in N scale have since 1974. A good job is a good job! see you when you get time.
Thank you.
Thanks for the Update Don!
Wow. Way to make my morning. Pleasant surprise to see an episode. That bridge rocks. Very nicely done. Stay safe Don and Don and see you again soon.
Thanks
About time. Hope you can upload videos a bit more often but completely understand that life always gets in the way of this wonderful hobby. Jobs, yuck. LOL! Good to see you're still at it, and I'll be waiting for the next video however long it may be. Oh the bridge looks awesome by the way. 👍
Great to see you and your Dad again. Was hoping everything was good with your family. You are still making more progress than I am. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks
Don, just put in a cardboard mock to up where the mill goes and covering the hole.
Awesome Don and good to hear from you again, Take care - Kevin
that's good, your still around,, lol . that is some crazy details you did with the bridge build, think I would of stopped at 12 wires,, so you the master,,, HA.. nice to see a video from ya guys.
Thanks Sparky!
good looking bridge
Glad your back or I’ve just been missing you video
Thanks. I've been missing them too.
I kinda been keeping up with your progress since I subscribed to your channel. Been wondering what you've been up to. Once again, cherish those moments you spend with your dad as they're too soon gone. Very nice bridge and it's always nice to work from an actual photo. As a modeler I stay kinda busy myself building old time freight car kits as I model the turn of the 19th century. IHC makes a like of old time freight cars (mostly truss rod) as does BTS (Better than Scratch). Four Silver Streak kits, a few Walthers, Tichy Train Group, a few Accurail and IHC kits to build. Only thing I've got to replenish is my metal wheel stock in 33" metal wheelsets with metal axles. Cheers from eastern TN
That looks really nice hope your going to be back a little more often
It would be a lot better with out music.

Another great video ! As always. Don't know how I missed it when it came out. Thanks for sharing.
Look good man good job
been a bit since I seen what you guys are up too.. hope ya post a video soon,, miss ya guys and the layout
Great video and tips. Subbed
Thanks
I have a layout i started on since 81 and i an still working on it
Use a push pin (map pin?) to hold the turnout in central position and another one to hold the ground throw in position while you put a track pin through the other hole in the ground throw.
Rather than pinning the rail an alternative option might be super or hot gluing it to the paper in a few spots with slots for a few key ties cut out so you can place them underneath for soldering after you have glued the rails in the correct position on the paper. Even better if you create a notch which ties can be put into and be flush with the surface on which the template sits. Downside is you would need to get the glued paper off once done and each "template" only can be used once but less worry that you will somehow muck up the gauging after you have got it right or when soldering.
Just cherish those moments you spend with your dad. My dad taught me everything and I miss him dearly. Cheers from eastern TN
