Tet Riding in remote North Vietnam
Every Tết (Lunar New Year) we embark on a road trip adventure. Never sure what to expect, this two-day motorbike journey was made thrilling by its remoteness. While areas like Ha Giang were choked with traffic, our route took us along quite back roads and across scenic ferries. We conquer rugged off-road trails, and immerses ourselves in vibrant local culture with homestays and ethnic minority festivals.
Adventure awaits on every ETHOS experience.

The Real Sapa!
มุมมอง 462หลายเดือนก่อน
As more people venture up to Sapa, we are becoming increasingly surprised by the choices people make. The vast majority of people visit Fansipan Cable Car, Moana, the Alpine Roller Coaster and the bustling Cat Cat. These are great places for a selfie, but are not great places. They offer no real culture. Any attempt at culture is manufactured, manicured and manipulated. These places are nothing...

Why do some people say Sapa is too touristy?
What a wonderfully vibrant and energetic local market. It looks like a fabulous experience.
These Tet markets are a unique experience, and a great chance to see the locals in their traditional clothes. Join us for one of these unique road trips. We have motorbike trips or options by car too.
great video but share the route when you do these videos as its great to see routes with little traffic and at the start when you with the people at the lake it would be nice to know where this was
Thanks for the feedback. The route was mainly through Dien Bien Phu and Lai Chau Provinces, but we choose to keep specific roads and markets quiet to avoid the massive over-saturation being experienced in Ha Giang and other well known areas. Hope you understand why.
@@ethosspirit yes 100 % i will be in that area as well next week lol not that you have mentioned dien bien phu lol and lai chau funny i was just looking at this yesterday
Well done guys. Exactly where was that video shot? I will be up there in March and will probably do Cao Bang loop to avoid the crush at Ha Giang. Any gripes with the Royal Enfield? Thank you, ride safe.
Oh you can do Ha Giang Loop aswel! In Lao Cai and Lai Chau (near SaPa) you can do motorbike loop (self-guided) aswel! I have on route on google maps which I can share with you. But you have to think for your own stops, its just the route.
Most of the video was filmed in Dien Bien Phu and Lai Chau Provinces. Ha Giang is nice, but if you’ve only got time to see Ha Giang or Cao Bang, do the latter.
Thank you for sharing. I'll be in Sapa next week, where is this great swimming pool ?
In Pao’s hotel
Very informative. Thank you for sharing ❤
You’re welcome
Great memories of chú Quáng. ❤
Love the channel and this video! Keep the Hmong clothing alive!!
Appreciate the positivity. Thank you for your kind words.
Beautiful 🙌
It really is a special process. Thanks for watching.
Amazing vidéo, the drone plan on Ngu Chi Son is Amazing. Stupid question weather is différant between décember and january or its the same ?
Thanks. Weather in both months is similar. Both are the coolest and driest months usually.
@ thank you !
What gear do you use in the helmets to talk with each other?
We have some cheap intercoms. Around $70 for a pair. The range is poor, but they do the job if we’re riding close.
This is a real local market…..like it…..people are nature, just make a living, not like commercial markets making plenty of profits from tourists…… Thanks for sharing 👌🏽🎊🎊💕💕💕💕💕🎉🎉
It really is a special place. The local trade is what makes it special.
I need to go back to Vietnam!
See you when you do. A road trip will definitely get you wanting to make trips here more regularly.
Beautiful…..thank you !!!
Thanks for watching Steve
Wow I’m really miss the nature, the flowers and the people 🥺
Thanks for sharing ❤
Thanks for watching!
The trek looks fantastic. So much more authentic and natural than when I visited last time as part of a group tour. Definitely joining you if I come again late February.
It really is! Hopefully see you soon.
I’m really happy to show travelers who are interested in our culture and traditional. If you guys are coming to Sapa and want to experience like this. Check out our local teams 😊
How can I find local teams ?
How I miss Sa Pa market. Those dear H'mong and Red Dao ladies are a joy to spend time with and I recognise many of those smiling faces. I hooe to return again later this year.
They will be pleased to see you too.
One of my favourite months for trekking!
The cooler weather makes for perfect trekking conditions.
Wow so nice to see my uncle doing the shaman. Soon will be be Tết and we’ll see that again 😊
He’s a very special man and we are privileged to have seen him perform this once a year ceremony.
Some of those aerial shots are amazing. Northern Vietnam really is stunning. Which province did you film this ride?
Thanks a lot. It’s filmed across two provinces, but mostly Lau Chau. Accessible from Sapa in around two hours.
Xav txog hmoob lub neej qub qab cas yuav kho siab ua luaj
It is a truly beautiful way of life.
So beautiful!
We’re very fortunate to be able to call this place our home.
Thank you for sharing our culture
You’re very welcome. It was a truly moving experience.
It’s always good to keep our culture alive ❤
Rest in peace! ❤
RIP🙏🙏🌹
That great! Is the girl in 3:19 a local tour guide?
She’s one of our guide team here in Sapa.
How is Sapa during Tet Lunar New Year? I am looking to visit this year (end of this month!)
Amazing and beautiful except for the music
Hemp IS cannabis! It's a cannabis sativa cultivar bred especially for it's fibrous stalk. Typically it has less than 1% THC (the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana) but can be high in CBD. An amazing plant.
How fun! What a great adventure on a new road!
We were lucky to find that hidden gem. Complete chance and somewhere we will definitely revisit sometime soon.
Some nice new trails and roads. Do you have new comms for the bike to bike?
Yeah. Just trying out a new system.
Great job getting up that narrow steep path, a good opportunity to burn out the clutch. I am afraid of the North of Vietnam until at least March. Well done to you both.
The clutch did get a little warm on that one! The weather is actually spot on at the moment. The cooler weather meant wrestling the bikes up those trails wasn’t too sweaty at least!
This is so beautiful. Thank you for posting this video.
The cloud features are quite extraordinary.
Beautiful.....you inspire me to return to venture deeper into the countryside.....but no bats for me!
Haha. We’re sure the bats also think the same :)
I really miss Tet. Such an incredible time and the festival bring everyone together in our community ❤
It’s a fantastic time of year and something we love sharing with travellers.
Epic ride. Love it
Glad you enjoyed the journey!
Awesome video. The pure joy is tangible.
Couldn't agree more!
Are there similar festivals at any other time of year?
The Ha Nhi and Lan Tien ethnic groups celebrate at other times of year as well as Tet.
There are some people said sapa now is so concreting. But they just stay around sa pa, just go every where famous. But they don’t go in the village to visit and make friends with the local people, so they don’t know how fantastic the local peoples are and how about the villages Thanks you to make this video
Parts of Sapa are touristy but most is staggeringly beautiful, culturally rich and wonderfully peaceful.
Many people go to the touristy areas. But this is the real of Sapa and real places where we live. So simple but peaceful in the same time😊🌤️
Glad you enjoyed the real Sapa!
Thanks for sharing.. ❤❤
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Just beautiful ❤
