Pretty much the same motor I have without the good heads. Should run great 👍🏾
You can always get valve relief 's cut in the pistons.
Whats up lil bro , glad to see yo still at it. Like i've always said youre an exceptional young brother keep up the great work
Yooooo what up! Appreciate it bro
Been off for the past 4 months, had to have back surgery. @@EJonDaPedal
Can't wait to see it running trying to get mine going 454 afr heads hydraulic roller in a 85 Pontiac Grand Prix
Be careful on those blocks, there Siamese bores might run a lil Hot…better with a 4.310 bore makes 496
Hey! I have a 496 build I'm putting together too. Like to see your build. Good luck. What your compression, you going e85?
Compression is 8.5 with the pistons i got
Thats a Top Notch Build. Can't wait to see its First Start Up. Your Killing It EJ!!!
Maybe a 3/8" 0.135" wall or a 7/16" pushrod would've been a better choice.....if you're concerned enough with rocker stud deflection, concern yourself with pushrod deflection too.
Those are good rockers. I've got the same on a 14:1 496ci engine turning 8k making 902fwhp. Been running 4 years now and I've o ly checked the lash twice with no adjustments necessary. I am using Comp stud girdles on Brodix RR-2s though. They have in fact declined a bit on their off the shelf and lower line of components, but I haven't seen any failures in their high line race stuff. You're good to go bud. Also, aluminum in the top end is more prone to failure. That's why you'll see a lot of blocks screened in the lifter valley.
My 1st bbc was a505,ran good
I actually had to trim 1 rocker on both sides in order for my valve covers to fit....🙃 You are correct about the 454 being expensive...after thinking about all the money I spend I don't want to build again for a while haha
Been watching this build all year. Looking great. What's it going in? Started my 461 (30 over 454) this summer. Doing it a bit at a time like you.
It's going in a 94 chevy
Great video keep the content coming looking forward to the nest step
Nice, clean , tasteful work!. Would love to hear it!
I fixing to do this with a tall deck 454 from a 1986 RV. Is this build finished or? I need ideas 🤔 i may send the block to the machine shop to have the deck shaved and bore the cylinders 0.30 over, but i ain't decided yet. I do plan on stroking it tho
It's almost finished. I got more vids on it on the channel. Let me know if u got questions, I'll do my best to answer
I used to be a painter's prepper, and I also used to build surfboards. As long as you take your time, and don't skip any steps it will come out fine. Patience is the key, which I usually don't have when it comes to my personal projects. Anyways, it's looking good, and has turned out a lot better than you're giving yourself credit for.
Thank you!
Cool bike
Thank you
You shouldn't have put lube under the washer on head studs. Only between nut and washer. Just FYI
What length pushrods did you go with for intake and exhaust?
8.6 and 9.3
camshaft retainer
Thrust plate was installed behind timing chain
Looks good.👍🏻
Big dollars pays off👍
Camshaft retainer?
Camshaft retainer?
Camshaft retainer?
Camshaft retainer?
Yes, had to use one. It came with the timing chain
Another great video showing the process 💯
For the steering. Look into a two-wheel drive power steering box and crossover steering. Add a panhard bar in the frame strengtheners like you're saying. The front axle will be solid and tide in. It's what I'm doing with my 68 half ton
Shouldn’t be more than a few hundred lol
idk what I'm looking at,but it looks nice
That compcam stuff fresh from china
A lot of the stuff we purchased is str8 from China, they just rebrand it once it
Looks good. Makes me remember working on my own gen V
looking good
That build is looking real fine. Can't wait to hear that Honey come to life. Great Job!!
Its coming along well 🙌🏾
Are you going to fire it up on a stand before you drop it in your truck? That would be a cool vid.
Not for this motor. But your right, that would be a cool vid
That's a Great looking Camshaft. A shame its hidden doing its job making the High HorsePower. Good Luck Bro.
Already subbed and thumbed. Can't wait to see that beast together. Good video EJ. Now on with the build.
Wish this was my hobby and I get to open and install all these great pieces of a powerful engine. Lets see that engine roar EJ!!!
So my machinist called me here's my cost so far. Machine work $1496. That's cleaning and magnafluxing the block, boring and honing to .060 over, decking the block to as close to zero as possible, line honing with machine shop sourced ARP 2 bolt main studs, New cam bearings installed with new freeze plugs machine shop supplied, and balance of rotating assembly that I supplied. Cost of rotating assembly $3000. That's an international balance forged scat stroker crankshaft, forged Callies compstar H beam connecting rods 6.385 designed with clearance for stroker crank, Ross racing forged pistons for 6.385 rods, King xp coated narrow rod and main bearings and premium piston rings. $4500 at this point and still need more parts like cam and lifters going solid roller, harmonic damper going fluid damper, flywheel for std trans, head work gonna need roller springs and valve seals already have performer rpm heads low hours. It adds up and it's gonna need more.
I built my 504.5 with a 4.375 crank and 30 over pistons remember displacement rules
Thaw price included the parts or just the work ?
Just the work 😬
@EJonDaPedal damn , you might wanna try another shop next time. That is Almost double what it should cost.
What’s it going in?
94 silverado
It would be a good nitrous motor
Just subscribed, in process of building a 512 from a Gen 4 454 V - 8.
That's gonna be a nice build
Do you know if the rear main seal from a Gen -5, (one-piece seal), will work on my Gen 4 crank ? Thanks in advance
@keithscudder7136 I don't think it will fit. Read somewhere that u would have to get a gen v oil pan and timing cover but I don't think the pan bolts line up. Also heard something about machining.
Thanks plenty on getting back to me. With all that, I'll stick with a 2-piece seal then. I also plan on having the block magnafluxed and was just curious, what if they find a crack in one of the cylinders ? Does that mean Boat-anchor for sure ? Thanks for your 2.5 cents ! (my keyboard is missing the (cent) sign ).
@keithscudder7136 If it has a crack it could be sleeved but that's gonna cost more and gotta find a shop willing to do it. Hopefully it's not cracked
1950$ I got u next time
Good build i'm doing a similar one on a c10!!. Much respect for going with the big block 💪
No matter what you do the price to have a great engine just creeps up higher and higher. Looks great. We just finished a 489. That motor will be a beast.
have them bord for 502 cid 😅😅
Did ya get it together? Make sure you have the rod small ends sized for proper pin fit, last few sets I’ve done were too tight out of the box. I’m putting together a 496 flat top build right now topping it off with an 8-71 blower. The AFR ENforcer 335 heads are real good value and plenty of flow for a hot street big block, especially with a little boost, you don’t need CNC ports at this level. Big blocks are kings!
I haven't put it together yet. Those r the heads I'm thinking bout getting. Thanks for the good info!
