    I am going through the game for the first time, and the quest design is frustrating. I have pretty much given up on doing them by myself, and I look now at the wiki a lot. Unless you go through the game in an exact order, you will never find most of them by yourself. Many will be in places you don't need to return to again. There has to be a compromise between complete handholding, and this. More breadcrumbs, and maybe some place where the already discovered breadcrumbs will be saved for later(yes, some sort of a quest book), so I don't have to keep it all in my head, having to remember it 20-50 hours later. I don't use summons and I play offline, but I honestly don't care how other players kill the bosses. There seem to be a lot of very strong builds floating around anyway, dual greatswords, bleed builds, mage nukes, etc., even without summons. I do keep a mimic tear and upgrade materials for it in the backpocket too, in case I get really stuck.(I haven't so far) I do agree it changes the dynamic a lot though. Especially with the mimic, that many players seem to use. Easier healing, intermittent tanking, a lot of damage they don't have to deal themselves, even if the summon doesn't survive until the end. I am not completely sure about "gentle AI", it looks more proximity based. I haven't fought the dreaded Godskin Duo yet, but both the Misbegotten + Crucible knight and the Gargoyles duo would attack at the same time if they got too close to me. It was very easy to drag the Misbegotten away from the knight though, and the knight would mostly just slowly walk towards me. The Gargoyles mostly alternated between attacks, one attacking, while the other did the cancerous poison breath. They comboed me in very ugly way several times though, when both were close.

      It's simple to spot the polite enemies AI at work. Go back to Gatefront Ruins, aggro like 10 Godrick soldiers and watch them attack you. Remember how aggressive the gargoyle was who was right in front of you in the duo gargoyle fight? Now imagine if both were doing that, NOT taking turns, simply unleashing their attacks as often as their AI allows. It would be a nightmare. You would have to wait until both hit a lul in their aggression to get a single strike in. The dual gargoyle fight is basically 1 gargoyle + slight aggression of another or that poison attack. The gargoyle moveset itself I find challenging even for a mid game enemy and they have high hp, mitigation, and a number of immunities, so that particular boss fight is difficult. It should probably be pushed a little further into the game and maybe just have 1 gargoyle there.

    Strongly agree with you about obscure NPC questline design. It's nigh impossible to intentionally complete just about any questline in the game without a guide, and if you do it likely came down more to luck than anything else. I typically don't use spirit ashes as a self-imposed rule so I could be mistaken about this, but I think you overestimate the effect using spirit ashes has on player skill. Your spirit will generally die before the end of a boss fight so you'll inevitably be required to fight it solo and learn the fight "properly" at least to a certain extent, and even while you have your spirt active the boss will target you some of the time so you'll still be forced to learn how to deal with it. If you replace spirit ashes with summoning players however, I 100% agree with your point. I have a friend who relied heavily on summoning players through her playthrough of elden ring and she finished the game, but I watched her play one time and frankly, she was terrible. Her approach to fighting any given enemy was to run at them and mash the attack button no matter what they do, likely because that's an effective way of dealing with them in a party of three. Player summons have always been the "easy mode" in FROM software titles and players who rely on them will inevitably become less skilled at the game compared to those who don't, because doing so sets the bar of skill required to succeed so much lower. It is ultimately the same with spirit ashes I suppose, just to a lesser extent. Medium mode, if you will.

      I mostly disagree with your general thought on spirits. I don't go into much detail in the video, but if the tempo/dance bosses gives is interrupted for even a few seconds, the difficulty of the boss plummets. (I took a magic knight built up against Mogh trying to get my first solo kill and struggle very hard against phase 2. After probably 70 attempts, I tried one of the weaker sorcerer spirits who casts glintstone stars, I think, and I easily beat it on that try. That's when this concept really crystalized in my head. In the abstract, you're looking for openings to attack, heal, cast a spell, do an action, but if the aggression will come back to you shortly those actions and the order of those actions matter a lot. When something takes the aggro off, you can perform all the utility actions you want before attacking again and pulling aggro back on yourself. Understood on your friend's skill level being low. This is part of my point. You don't need to do anything but the most basic of actions when summons are present. It's simply a limit with the design of the bosses and encounters. And also I think it's a shame that many players only experience this very shallow engagement of the combat because, as with most combat focused games, the depth of combat and combat options are a main reasons I'm here.

      @@hexthehardcorecasual Yeah you might be right, as I said my experience with spirit summons is quite limited since I've almost always played with an arbitrary rule against using them so I'm not in the best position to have an opinion on how much easier they make the combat.

    I dont understand how people say this games so hard. Sekiro parry plus BB dash AND blocking normally is effective? Maybe people feel like they have too many options but the best is always parry. Gamble a bit and lose to get it down. So worth it later when you're fatal attacking the final boss twice.

      Well, it takes time to learn and know the moves of bosses and when to block etc. And even little mistakes can be fatal. So, its difficult. These tutorial videos helps but not everyone watches them. Me neither when I first started. Normal enemies are not hard unless they attack all at once. Mini bosses can take your healt bar too and for main bosses u need all your health bars at least just incase.

    I think it's worth noting that Elden Ring PvP has gotten alot better because of all the patches its received. Still flawed in a lot of areas, but the balance has been massively improved since launch.

      That's good to hear. Another issue I have is that meta stuff is like 3x better than non-meta. It's one thing if it's like 10%-20%, but the difference is substantial. In addition, I feel lethality is just too high. I think they should normalize things downward to the bottom 25% of stuff to address both issues.

    I revisited the demo this weekend to try and get a better understanding of the mechanics. My initial playthrough I was trying to dodge everything and of course it wasn't quite working. Then the perfect block started to click, and everything changed. I immediately understood that offensively you play like your typical souls but defensively its more Sekiro. So once I got the perfect block timing down for his attacks, I had to then figure out how to navigate the lighting strikes. And surprisingly there was some instances where if you position yourself in the right spot you can stand there and get a heavy charged attack. This was a well-designed "let me teach you how to play" boss. After being underwhelmed with Elden Ring I'm actually excited for this and Lords of the Fallen.

    Actually this boss teach you how to play... of course with the perfect block as main mechanic, the dodge is a secundary mechanic that you need to upgrade later if you want to use it but the perfect block makes the game pretty easy and enjoyable

    The first thing i do on new bosses is look for his move timings and openings. After i see his whole first move set. I will push the boss the the next phase if i can. Then i just rinse and repeat that til i win.

    Made some great points in the video! I dont agree with all but i agree with most. I love how you categorize mechanics by tiers. Imo i feel like perfect parry is 1st tier, blocking is 2nd tier, and dodging is 3rd tier (ordered by how often they the best option to use during boss fights). Many souls vets dont have a grasp on this so they call the game cluncky or bad because they dont understand its essence (of course one can criticize, just plz have a basic understanding of the mechanics first). Im so excited for this game, cant wait and great video!

      Thanks! I'm excited for the game too. Ideally each mechanic is viable in some way, but it appears perfect block is superior to block. Dodge is more situational, but I don't think it's a 3rd tier mechanic though. The main point I was making here, of course, is that you can use sub-optimal strategies and still win and that victory is more attainable than I think a lot of people realize.

    When I come to a new boss that I've heard is really hard, I spend some tries just moving, dodging, and watching with no attacks. I see how long I can stay alive, then when I feel like I have a good handle on the bosses attacks, I start fighting.

      This is exactly what I did with Midir from Dark Souls 3. My first attempt was to observe him and get a feel for him. I simply sustained against him via flasks and healing miracles.

    I played Demons Souls back on PS3 and missed the rest of the souls craze until it was mainstream. The problem for me isn't the challenge it's the constant fail-state required to learn how to navigate that challenge. I don't like roguelikes either for this reason. Some games are so good I try to get over it (Risk of Rain 2, Caveblazers, Slay the Spire). I appreciate the Legacy of Kain style gameplay in Dark Souls where there's actually new things to discover in death, and maybe I wish a game like this would take it even further and put you in more and more harmless levels of purgatory or grind your character down into a weak NPC more than just a ghost form to reflect that failure -- so you could just explore that lore without threatening the mobs. As it is though, making levels harder when you die kind of roots you in that sense of it being "your" challenge to overcome. I know I could beat these games, but don't have the heart to go through the kind of rage that has always come with losing. Other people compose themselves differently but I've made people leave the house after seeing me smash a controller into a pulp and then grab another one and keep playing. It's compulsion, video games in general are relying on healthier forms of that compulsion and I'm just tired of the way it manifests in my demeanor. Ignore my youtube comment therapy sess but sometimes we avoid these challenges exactly because it's not about the game, but about what we were accomplishing by playing it.

      You should definitely try Elden Ring. There are many, many optional areas and things to conquer that you can beef your character up substantially. If things are still too dicey, use the summon spirits. It's difficult to explain the scale of the game and the huge amounts of optional areas that you can find gear, runes (souls), materials, and so on.

      It's honestly a shameless Bloodborne copy. And I don't know why so many soulslikes wanna copy Fromsoft's combat when Nioh has more action-focused gameplay. If I want Dark Souls or Bloodborne, I'll play those.

      @@KaiKrimson56 The goal of a Souls-like is to mimic Souls heavily. I think you're being too harsh as many elements in Bloodborne are not copied, but there are some common themes. If they pull off Lies of P, will you not buy it because it's too similar to Bloodborne? Nioh (2, I haven't played 1) combat is sort of like Souls, but in many ways is not. The action is much faster and fighting game-esq. There are complex combos and such. Faster doesn't mean better. I'm not saying Nioh combat is bad, but they chose a different path. And lastly, while you can play DS and BB because they exist, I would like more and variations with more. That's why I am into Souls-likes in the first place.

      @@alenezi989a3 I don't share this complaint, but a lot of people seem to think this is the case. What exactly is the issue? A lack of i-frames? A lack of distance covered? Perhaps they will tweak the dodge. Also note that there were upgrades, if I recall correctly, in the P-Organ system that improved dodge.

      @hexthehardcorecasual yeah I know about the upgrades, but the main issue is that it requires upgrades, I played through the demo 3 times to test different builds, my first run was terrible because I was playing the game like bloodborne but the dodge was simply not working the s are too small and the distance is too short, my second and third runs I relied heavily on perfect gaurd the game was alot more enjoyable then. You take no damage and enemies become groggy. It seems alot of people had the same issue the dodge didn't feel right. If they don't fix it that upgrade will be a requirement not an option.

      @@alenezi989a3 I think a lot of times Souls players are sticklers for their preferred Souls title. Then when a new title comes around when they say it doesn't feel right, that often means it doesn't play to their muscle memory or like their favorite Souls game. The same issue happened when Sekiro came out.

      if you dodge sideways you can dodge 90% attacks,if you dodge backwards everytime you are doing it wrong,that is why you are getting hit alot more

    I think a big part of it is the re-casting of the talent for the characters as well as what you are saying with the writing. They had regular actors that are talented, but for some reason they didn't bring them back :(. Good video.

      Perhaps, but Kendra's actress is the same in both games and I thought her delivery was generally better in the original. Because of that I feel the fault primarily falls on the directing.

    Big guy at the the end is the Hivemind, they make the Necromorphs use actual strategy lore wise.

      @@hexthehardcorecasual Not exactly. The necromorphs respond to the nearest Marker signal. Otherwise everything answers to a Moon as the Markers are built by them.

    I agree with how its been taken is a little off but in a single player game at, Mind you, FULL PRICE, being ok with "Season Pass" is outright freaking dangerous. They might say how its a 100 percent new never worked on before content and even if we gave them the benefit of a doubt, you think devs like EA and Ubisoft deserve that trust ? Let single player games come to that and you'll see how fast games will turn to a real shitter. Its already horrible that we need ultimate edition or pre order edition or something like to access locked stuff from day 1 and allowing season pass into single player is big straight no. Also, I think the word they used here is completely wrong. Just call it DLC and launch it when its done instead of telling me that its gonna exist before the game is even out, with how greedy suits are and how bad the gaming industry has gotten in terms of monetization, its only natural that people HATE the thought of season pass, ESPECIALLY for a single player game. ALSO, now that it has released to an ABYSMAL launch for Pc, I'm sorry if I don't trust that for a second ... a 60dollar game with 12 hours of story and repetitive enemies and scares... I really wanted to love this game but was holding off till it launched like I do with all my games and its an utter disappointment in the state it launched.

    A perfect example of lying is Michael does life and he still believes what the game journalist say and makes video like don't buy the callisto protocol and the cracks are starting to show and a few of his videos have been taken down by the devs due to false information. And I pre ordered the callisto protocol digital deluxe edition cause the games looked fun
