I think games like this are the hardest to review. It's easy when a game is terrible or a game is great, you know how to talk about it. When a game hits that middle ground it's rough, you need to try and find that balance. Even with games that I don't like, I always try to maintain a positive flow, my goal is to try and connect games with those who will enjoy them :) Hopefully you found my opinion to be fair, although I will admit the very tiny pause after hit, is something that most won't care about, but to me was a big sticking point. As to your question regarding recommendations, that's a tough one. My go to would be Tunic, it has that smooth combat flow, and that great Zelda vibe of discovery, but I'm sure you've already played that. For a larger Zelda style RPG with a great story and world to explore, there's Dragon Quest XI, and I can never resist the opportunity to sing about Xenoblade Chronicles 1, 2 and 3. They're fantastic (2 and 3 especially for me). The Last Campfire I believe is currently on sale and is worth a look, along with Eastward. And of course don't forget you have Ni No Kuni on Switch, but if you know nothing about the game look up a combat video first, you collect minions to help you in combat and swap between them, the game is stellar, but the combat can turn some off. @@LT3 I did enjoy the video so no worries, im surprised not more reviews of it from some of the more nintendo switch oriented channels. This game does have bit of potential and i hope developers are working on a sequal to this.

A lot of the issues I had could be patched out tbh, the core is really solid, and like you said, it's a bit of a surprise that more Nintendo channels didn't pick it up as it feels like a perfect fit for the switch. A sequel of the same size, or slightly smaller and more polished would rock, ofc there's always the potential for a larger sequel, but I'd rather quality over quantity. Glad you liked the video and hope to see you comment on more in the future :)

Persona 5 has a hook but then drop. I mentioned in another comment it’s like starting a rollercoaster halfway down the drop. You’re meant to react with “omg what’s happening”. The issue is after that initial drop it’s a slow climb back up. Metaphor starts at the beginning of the ride. It’s a slow climb but it takes less time to get going proper than Persona 5. You’re given more of the story a bit earlier in Metaphor. I don’t mention it as a negative, just as a warning as some people don’t like that slower period, but I think it’s needed in a game of this length.

It's all good, I didn't think it was don't worry :) I just know it's a talking point these days so had to mention it in our review, and also feel it's a bit weird given it's not that bad compared to others like you've said :)

Persona style, bonds and friendships, rather than Mass Effect style of 'Playin and Layin'

Getting your time out of that demo! 60+ Hero's leaf is going to help you, but not as much as you think. However it's easy enough to get more as there's a few key farming spots you can find, plus the difficulty you're on affects your XP.

@criticalinspiration2442 So I'll say if you don't want to know this info, stop reading now. There's a few ways that you can "farm" in dungeons. One is that if you hit a save point or a loading screen, it'll respawn most enemies in a dungeon (Certain ones don't respawn after being killed), you can use this to refill MP easily. BUT, the main XP farm method, is find a "flower" enemy, they spawn minions from them infinitely as long as you don't kill the flower. You can then just sit close to it but not too close. A mage arch works well for this so you don't move and aoe spam. It farms XP (slowly dropping as you get higher level). Once a class is mastered, it will then continue to gain XP, when it gains 1k XP, it'll give you an item you can use on another Arch that gives it 1k XP. Don't stand too close to the "flower" or your allies will attack it occasionally. If it drops low on HP, don't kill it, go save and come back it'll be full health again. There's places in the game you can find 2 flowers next to each other for even faster farming.

Agreed but I've stayed away solely on high schoolers being the focus. The art is... beyond amazing

I agree simply because the beginning of persona games are soooo slow ! This game tells the story well n put you right in the action !

@lormingo5259 I actually felt the other way. I felt 5 hooks you at the start by dropping you in to action and then slows down to set up the story. While this doesn't drop you in to the action BUT, depending on how much of the lore in the menus you read and the npcs you talk to, you can get to the "start" sooner. I tend to read everything though. It's like a Roller Coaster. P5 started you mid drop. Omg what's happening, then there's another slow build up. This just has you start at the beginning of the right and climb right away.

I miss my boy Ryuji but it is a fantastic game. The combat issue is the only minor flaw, and like I said, it won't be an issue for some, it will be frustrating and tedious for others, that's the only issue, everything else is stunning. Thanks for the comment btw!

I don’t think we actually got to see any prolonged melee combat. I think what we saw didn’t raise any alarms in my head. Melee combat in an online game is a tricky one. Conan has improved a lot over time but still is lacking. Unless the game is melee focused (For Honor, Chivalry) then melee tends to end up light/floaty or lacking feedback, with mmo movement it’s easy to slip in to jank. I think they’ll learn from Conan, but I still think it’ll end up feeling like “MMO combat”, due to the fact it needs to feel fair to hit and be hit. That’s not a bad thing if done right. That’s not meant to be an insult, just a descriptor as MMOs create restrictions you have to work with/around. So they end up keeping it a bit basic. Flashy looking moves/animations but not much on the hitting side, maybe some blood or a flinch. I’m sure we’ll have more Dune coverage closer to launch, and when we do combat will be something we discuss as it’s a core component. Thanks for such a great question.

Giby 'Dr SNK' Zia. Who we were told was in the Top 5 players. Tbh he could have been in the top 1,000 and he still would have whooped us. Our first hands on with the game so not much time to master combos :D Was still a fantastic experience though. And we almost beat him in 1 round... Almost.

Thankfully they have some time. It's a tough balancing act when you're making an MMO as performance is key.

Personally, I'm kind of over the wholegraphical arms race. I much prefer performance, interesting artstyles etc..

I actually just mentioned this in our most recent review for Metaphor. I think certain art styles age a lot better than going for hyper realism. If you're just trying to make it look "real" like you said, it's an arms race, but you look at games like, World of Warcraft, or Ni No Kuni, which focus more on a specific art style, they might look ugly to some, but they "age" slower. I think art style is important, but I don't think realism is the way for everything to go. There were pictures recently comparing the original Until Dawn to the new one regarding lighting, and facial detail on Rami Malik's character, and while the remaster looks more realistic and higher detail, side by side the older one looks fantastic and has more flare to it. It's an interesting discussion point for sure.

It’s not for everyone. I can understand the frustration if you’re a fan of an IP and see they’re making a game that looks exciting to you as you get to explore the world, but then it’s a genre you don’t play.

I don’t blame you. Some players see PvP as an excuse to just be a psycho. I would love to see an MMO or Survival game where there is more reason to work with strangers. Balancing that risk vs reward of just attacking someone because there’s a negative consequence for starting that fight. I understand for some though they’d prefer not to have to worry about someone destroying their base or killing them and making them feel like they wasted their time gathering to have it taken away.

@@fratyify the good thing in Dune Awakening is PvP is not forced on you :) if you don't wish to do PvP, can leave the PvP for others to do and trade with people in the social hubs or buy from the player market/exchange . The focus is not on base raiding for this game ,so as long as you keep your base shield powered it will be fine

Thank you. The goal is always to try and find the questions we want answers to while avoiding the ones you know they’ll get asked everytime.

We did talk about a few different subjects so I apologise for not making it a bit clearer. You'll be building your main base in the Hagga Basin. It's roughly the size of Conan Exiles map as a comparison, this is going to be your main base, it'll decay over time as all things are want to do. From there, you'll head out to the Deep Desert where you'll do most of your activities, this resets every week. So think of it as, you'll have your main base in Hagga, and then you'll build little outposts each week in the Deep Desert, they're not full-on bases, just little places to speed things up rather than going back and forth to Hagga all the time. So your main base is not at risk of weekly wipes. Just the little outposts in the Deep Desert. They wipe the Deep Desert every week to refresh and change the activities available to add new things and prevent it getting stale. Hope that helps :)
