Finger Knitting
Learn how to knit with just your fingers! Use chunky yarn (or a combination of smaller yarns) to knit a narrow tube without any other tools. You can make skinny scarves, headbands, snakes, bunting, or sew pieces together for larger projects. This is a great introduction to the basics of knitting for younger kids.

Testing The Winder, a yarn swift from Alpenglow Yarn, with tips for winding yarn
มุมมอง 193ปีที่แล้ว
I'm a beta tester for The Winder, a new yarn swift designed by Carrie of Alpenglow Yarn, trying it out to help refine the design before it goes into full production, although I'll likely have trouble thinking of much to improve it. I recorded a video winding a ball with this swift, which is so well designed: easy to set up, smooth winding, and lots of sparkles! You can't order of of these yet, ...

Crocheting a Foundation Chain and Single Crochet
Nice. I am intrigued by the way you hold your yarn while purling. I 'll love to purl that way too.
Thank you for mentioning stretch! This was a concern of mine. Didn't occur to me to rotate the direction of the threads to be on the diagonal
Kira your work is excellent and I love the Houndstooth weave! Thank you for sharing your talent.
This is a great tutorial! Thank you. I have one question, though. Does the mend keep the hole from getting bigger? I feel like the hole should be stitched around, first? I have a cashmere sweater, with multiple holes, that I want to save. :)
It depends on whether the hole is actively unraveling, in which case you may want to do some reinforcement stitching around the edges.
Hah what a cool gadget for tool lovers🎉🎉🎉❤❤
Yes, having the right tool for this definitely makes it faster and easier, and even fun!
thank you
You're welcome! I'm glad it was helpful
Such a good tutorial! I've recently purchased my speed weave and have, watched quite a few tutorials and you're is the best. Well done, and you've gained a subscriber. Thank you.
Thanks! I recorded it because I couldn't find a video that went through the entire process in real time, and the finishing in particular was missing from most tutorials.
Thank you
You're welcome! I'm glad it was helpful.
Thank you for your video 🙏💗
You're very welcome!
LOVE the houndstooth. And doing it on the bias to keep the stretch - I did an auduble gasp.
I love that!
Thank you for that clear demonstration and explanation. It was very helpful and informative.
You're welcome and I'm so glad it was useful.
This looks so great, but I can’t follow how to get the houndstooth pattern. I will keep watching it, but even though I see you are alternating colors I can’t figure out what is making it that houndstooth like pattern rather than just a check.
@@lizmarienyc it’s two vertical threads per color, then two horizontal threads per color, woven in plain weave.
Great job of explaining so many aspects of using this tool and process! Thanks for a bunch of helpful tips!
@@amandathweatt3167 my pleasure! So many videos for these don’t show the entire process from beginning through to the very end.
Your Commonground Class was so very very good. I will be enjoying all of your TH-cam instruction videos. Thank you for your teaching.
That class was fun and I hope to return. For now I'm glad that the videos are helpful.
Thank you so much for this video! I finally understand the mistake I'm making and how to fix it. Your explanation is so much clearer than others I've looked at, and your use of two different yarns is brilliant, I wish you had other videos to help the beginning knitter.
I have lots of other helpful videos, including a whole playlist on fixing mistakes!
Best one I have seen ❤❤❤
Thanks! It was important to me to show the entire process from beginning to end.
Hi Kira, I am knitting a stripped scarf for a friend. I don't want the stripes to be the same number of rows or the same number of rows between the stripes. Do you know of a formula I can use to space out the stripes to make it look more interesting? Thank you in advance for your help..Shar
Check out the Fibonacci sequence if you want an interesting stripe pattern that you'd need to track, or just do random stripes either organically or by rolling a die to be truly random!
Thankyou! You were so complete and easy to follow!
I'm glad it was helpful for you!
Could you provide a link for those spools of mending thread? I have been trying to find quality thread myself. Thank you.
Sorry, I can't find these same ones anywhere! I like the mending/reinforcing threads that are sold at yarn shops and often used to carry along when knitting the heels of socks. They're similar to this but larger so no need to double them. I sometimes use laceweight or fingering weight yarn, always with some nylon or silk or mohair for strength, and when mending cottons I use sashiko thread.
This is great. You’re amazing. Thank you!
You're so welcome!
Thank you so much. I just ordered one from Amazon.
Glad I could help!
Thank you Kira. What a great demonstration. I have a collection of knitting eggs, and various other wooden inserts for mending socks. I have been eyeing these looms for a long time. It seemed pretty intuitive, but your instructions were crystal clear. I became more interested in the loom when my son who moved to PA decided to start mending his wool sox. He went to Michael’s but I directed him to an LYS and a JoAnn’s fabrics. I’m gathering together some of my spare tools to send and I’m thinking of ordering a loom. They’re much less expensive than I thought and they look like fun to use. i’m curious what size would be best for sock mending? Or just general use? C🦊💕
I'm glad that the video was clear! I think that the 14 hook loom is a good place to start, as it's small enough to fit into a sock. Eventually you may also want a 21 hook loom which is larger and also has the hooks set closer together for a finer weave. I have both available on my website.
You're a wonderful teacher. Thank you
You are so welcome!
Best video I found on this. Thanks!
I'm glad it was helpful!
Ist was great thank you.
You're very welcome! Have fun mending.
Interesting - we (my daughter and I) found one of these in a box of sewing bits at a local boot sale (yard sale) last weekend. Nice and easy to follow video but couldn't hear anything even with the volume turned right up. Anybody else have this problem of is it my computer? Also, how do I stop my daughter from cutting holes in perfectly good sweaters so that she can "repair" them?
I think the sound issue is specific to your computer if you're not hearing anything at all. And tell your daughter she can patch items even without holes!
Thank you! Just about to buy a loom and now I know what to look for.
I'm glad it helped! So often people buy the cheapest one, then end up buying another before too long, so it's always good to know what to look for.
You're a natural teacher! Thank you for the tutorial!
You are so welcome!
Great explanation. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
I'm saving it so when I cant remember I'll go watch again thank you again
I'm glad it was helpful for you.
You'll never know what a blessing this explanation has been to me. Thank you for the best teaching on this subject. Have a great book watched several videos, never could quite get it. I've got it now. 👍
I'm so glad it was helpful, and really appreciate your commenting.
Thank you for sharing such a coherent video!✌🇨🇦
Happy to! The instructions for these tools can leave a lot out, and there’s nothing like seeing it in motion.
Thank you for sharing this very informative video ✌🇨🇦
Thank you SO much for this very informative video! The paper instructions that came with my loom were four short paragraphs and gave NO real details on tightening down the ends as you go nor how to finish off the threads. This has been an excellent tutorial!😁
I’m glad it was helpful. The written instructions for some of these looms leave a lot out!
@@kiradulaney That's an understatement. I couldn't believe how obtuse the instructions that came with it were. Your video and gentle, ENCOURAGING, voice is what convinced me to keep the loom and give it a try instead of returning it. THANKS AGAIN!
Thanks ! That was really helpful
Thank you so much!
Exellent tips to improve my use with this type of weaver. Love your reasoning and clarity explaining. Thank you much. Very glad I found this video. 🎉
I'm glad you found it helpful!
Well done. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I have purchased a loom but haven't built the courage to try it. Your work was beautiful & encouraging for someone just switching from manual darning to the weaving unit. Thanks again.
I'm glad it was helpful. The instructions that come with many of these looms can be confusing or leave out important info like how to finish the ends.
Excellent demo. Thank you. Where can I find such a loom?
There are vintage looms and some new suppliers. The one in the video is from Alexon Ver on Etsy, and I've also found some on Amazon. Look for the style with the ledge for the rubber band rather than tabs that stick out.
So… it’s the same is sewing on woven patch around the edges? Wouldn’t a knitted patch be a better repair option?
Very good tutorial!
Glad you think so! Thanks!
Very clear explanation, thanks
I'm glad you found it helpful.
Thank you!
My pleasure - I love sharing skills.
@@kiradulaney do you know anymore patterns? such as checker board, or anything else?
You can look up weaving patterns, design your own, or just experiment and see what happens! An easy one is a four-block patch where you do half the warp threads in one color, then switch to a second color for the other half. Do the same with the weft and you'll get two solid blocks and two mixed-color blocks.
Excellent instructions. Never knew this tool existed. Just subscribed to your channel.
It's a very neat tool, although you can do a woven darn without it, I find it makes the process more enjoyable and the result much neater.
Excellent demo! thanks for sharing, I've never seen this tool before.
I'm glad you liked it! I'm working on one showing a houndstooth pattern which I'll post soon.
Can we knit bigger beads like this?
Yes, you can use a 3/0 seed bead with larger yarn, around worsted or aran weight. Keep in mind that beads other than seed beads tend to have small holes even if the bead is large.
FYI: This a regular knit bind off vs a chain bind off.
It's such a common bind off method that most people think of it as the "regular way", but the official name is a chain bind off. There is a chain cast on that makes a nicely matching bottom edge. Perhaps you're thinking of a crochet bind off also known as a crochet chain bind off?
Thank you for this! I've unraveled my work entirely 3 times already (only a few rows in thankfully) because I couldn't figure out how to fix my mistake that wasn't a dropped stitch. This is exactly what I've been doing wrong and now I'll know how to fix it when it happens again
I'm so glad it was helpful.

You are wonderful. I love your classes. You are very kind!
Thank you so much!
Do you have the video of how to make the beginning of the sweater ? I mean the video of the beginning yoke part before separating the sleeves and body? Thankyou.
I do have videos on a few different cast ons, and also on basic knitting and purling. I don't yet have a video on increases, but will keep it in mind. I sell the Spoke Cardigan pattern that has specifics in terms of gauge, how many stitches for each size, when to increase, etc.
