Why Street Fighter (The Movie) Looks Nothing Like Street Fighter (The Game)
i never like that song. it slowed down the movie.
Me and the Mrs both hated this song, use to fast forward through it when we had it on VHS. We both love this film
You haven’t really seen The Muppets Christmas Carol, if you haven’t seen it with “When Love Is Gone.” It’s the heart of the whole movie.
I just watched the movie on Disney plus and that song is not in the movie 😢
Our DVD has it. We just watched it. My children are furious that the fun food eating and who’fest scenes are taken out the new Grinch DVD!!!!
Well, I'm not sure if it's just my luck or what, but the song wasn't in Muppet Christmas Carol when I streamed it today on Disney+. I didn't even know this song existed because I've never seen the film before today, so seeing this pop up in my TH-cam feed was a surprise. Now I wonder what it is I missed out on.
Katzenberg? From shrek? And quibi?
It's been a favorite song of mine all these years, since my children first saw the movie at home. So glad I have it still.
Dude this jogged my memory crazy. I specifically remember seeing the 101 Dalmatians movie with my sisters and Runaway Brain was a short at the start. I remember loving that short way more than the movie. Also, if anyone wants to see it, it’s up on Internet Archive 🤘 Great video my man
When my sister and I would watch this at home she always wanted to rewind and watch this song again, I was too young at the time to appreciate it, but I get it now..
How senseless! Having to watch the "extra" version, just to get the whole movie. If I were on the board at that company, such nonsense would swiftly come to an end.
The movie has been a family tradition in my house for well over 25 years, and whenever id end up watching it at a friend's house during the holidays id try to explain how their version was cut and missing a song, but was always adamant i was trying to pull one over on him. One year after the debate I literally dragged him to my house popped in my VHS and fast forwarded. He then tried to posture that the song was lame and stupid, which only made the pay off the next year so much better when his parents revealed to me that he'd annoyed them into buying their first VHS post upgrading to DVD.
When the VHS came out I was nine and my brother was 5. Neither one of us had any problem sitting through the song, and we enjoyed it just as much as any other part of the movie. It does a real disservice to children the way some producers treat them as if they constantly need to have something bright, loud, funny, or bouncy in front of them at all times, so much so that they can't handle even three minutes of content that shifts the mood to something calmer and quieter. (Yes, that's about how much they cut.) People like Katzenberg that talk down to children like this are part of the reason so many of them have been conditioned to have the attention span of a gnat.
This song was rewound SO MUCH on my VHS back when I was a child... it's my favourite song in the movie and always made me cry. It's so beautifully sombre and absolutely shouldn't have been cut... as you said, it was totally the motif of the film! The Love We Found doesn’t hit as strongly without it! 😢😢
The Marley brothers' song was also edited down. I'm not sure any home release has the full song. You can find the extended version on TH-cam.
I'd only ever known the home video version of the movie. When I updated my collection to have a DVD version, it had the VHS "Standard Definition" And wide screen "Theatrical Cut" of the movie. I was perplexed that the Widescreen edition didn't have the song. So, when I shared the movie with my boyfriend, I wanted to watch the widescreen version - and then paused when it made the cut, went to TH-cam and watched the scene XD It's so vital to the movie, to Scrooge!
Got to be honest, when I was a child and we had the movie on tape, we would always fast forward the song. But when i became an adult, I wanted the song back in the streaming version 😢
His argument about the song being too sad for a children’s movie must have vanished when he did. Have you ever heard “When Somebody Loved Me” from Toy Story 2? When I took my children and that song came on, I began to hear sniffling from the audience, but it wasn’t from the kids. I looked around me and saw that it was from the PARENTS! We ALL could remember a special toy that we loved as children, only to discard it when we reached that certain age. I still can’t hear that song without getting teary-eyed. Same with this song. It’s necessary. It belongs. It’s not the same movie without it. This is probably my favorite Christmas movie and that song is part of the reason why.
Maybe I was a weird child because this song was always my favourite part of the film. I was so disappointed when our VHS died and we bought it on DVD, only to find the song missing!
It's not on Disney+ which is such a disappointment
They also cut a verse from marley and marley.
Recall that it was executives that wanted to cut Over the Rainbow from The Wizard of Oz. They know so little.
I’m incredibly confused. I watched the VHS tons of times, then bought the dvd and watched that tons of times. I don’t ever remember that scene missing. Now I need to find that DVD.
So what did they miss?
But, I just watched it, the other day on D+ and it did NOT have the song
Because the Love in Disney is Gone.
wait, I always read Disney cut it from the Blu-ray 20th Anniversary release because it was "too depressing for kids"
They should have left it in, it added important context to Scrooge's character arc and was referenced in the finale with lyrics along the lines of, "The love we've found..." Typically, the past scenes are the most vital to understanding Scrooge
I always watched it with, then came across a version without, and felt crazy. It is such an important piece of the movie
Thanks for that title... I jumped on my Disney app to make sure nothing stood between me and watching this movie today.
thank you for doing this video! I did not know any of the history of this song. And now I just wanna watch the whole movie!
I was 8 when that movie came out. The song was long and slow and boring. It was too long. My mom also disliked it. We usually fast forwarded through that part. I just watched this with my daughter yesterday, and I noticed the song was gone. I assumed the general consensus was that the song needed to be cut.
Let me chime in... I was HAPPY that song was cut. It totally causes the movie to drag (especially for children). It takes what could have been a touching scene for SCROOGE and gives a lot of time to a minor character. Even IF the song is good as a song (I won't weigh in on that), I much prefer the movie versions w/o the song.
Seems the big problem was that the animators and executives had no idea who Mickey Mouse was. I can imagine Mickey being so absorbed in videogames that he gets sucked into the games, falls into various adventures but ultimately escapes the video game world and takes Minnie on a trip at the end. Bailey seems to have been utterly blind to the entire Disney universe.
Incredible story unbelievable they found it in Europe in 2020 🤯 as a kid I wouldn't have liked it but as an adult it really hits the heart
I remember seeing this as a short in front of the movie RocketMan in 1997. Idk if the theater just ran it as a separate reel or what but monster mickey stuck with me as a kid for a long time
I had quite a different experience to a lot of people with this film. I 1st saw it 7y ago as a 36 year old adult when I met my now wife. At the time, it didn't have this song since all the DVDs and streaming versions left it out. She'd never seen the song either, since she also came to it as an adult. I grew to really love the film, but without that song. Last year I watched the longer edition for the 1st time with the song included. My wife and I really didn't take to it at all. It just felt sort of forced in there and not of the same style as the rest of the film. It also felt less pollished than the other songs somehow. The emotional drama of Bell leaving was really enough without the need of the song for us. Just my opinion :)
I always watched the vhs tape as a kid, and I really did not like the Love is Gone sequence. Unfortunately, I think they also did Meredith Braun's hair/makeup/wardrobe in a very unbecoming "period accurate" manner. So we are left with 2 actors, whom are barely featured in the rest of the film, who look like they are in a stage play, singing a sappy song about "the love being gone."
This stresses more why physical media is important to have.
I've been wondering that for a long time that was pretty stupid. It's an important part of the story! Disney is run by idiots.
Tegan is always sooo much fun!
I decided to watch the movie on Disney + today and the song is still cut out wtf
This song was the emotional pivot point of Scrooge's reclamation. I facepalmed so hard when Disney cut it. Did a happy dance when they restored it. Beautifully conceived and performed, Caine and Braun brought me to tears with their duet.
Disney: when you want to ruin a movie
At least Disney have not released or remade a certain movie set in a slave farm in which everyone including the slaves sing about how lucky they are.
Still having the VHS from 1992/3, I very much remember the song! As a kid, the scene was understandable, but looking back as an adult, the pacing slowed down in that area of the movie. It's a beautiful song and scene, so it's hard watching versions where it's cut.
Luckily I still have the VHS
I watched the extended version today and yeah the song ruins the pacing imo and it’s weird to see Scrooge sing before his true face turn
Nah, the entire relationship and breakup goes extremely quicky with the song cut. Imo it's weird to only see the girlfriend for a collective 2min like we do in the cut version. When you hear the ballad, it makes way more sense to the viewer why scrooge is as emotional as he is, because he just watched his GF lament their lost relationship. Without the song it's fine but we just watch this 45 second scene, cut to present scrooge sobbing, and move on. Way too fast. The final song in the movie is also a callback to the ballad, as all the characters together sing "the love we found," and this emotional beat is completely lost without it. :(( I wish they considered cutting the song shorter or something rather than removing it. It's not really respecting children's ability to understand a movie. Once you know it's been cut, it's kind of obvious bc of how fast all that stuff goes by.
They cut it for the same reasons why they cut "If I Never Knew You" from Pocahontas (with the exception of leaving in the excellent pop version for the credits) and why they almost considered cutting "Part of Your World" from The Little Mermaid, thinking these type of romantic songs would slow down the pacing of the movie too much or make people squeamish. Personally any cut of this movie with the song intact would be my preferred way of watching it as I feel in this case that its overall narrative is backed up better with the song's inclusion than without it.
Ha, recorded the movie the other day, my son wants to watch it, now i have to check out, if it is in the german version, and how it looks :) What a story... glad it is back in.
