    If you play red and blue Spider Woman, which is one of Rey's favorites, you can have Lie in Wait and the Hawkeye ally out and hit 5 to a fresh minion. That can definitely be a huge swing in your favor in a game, especially if it is a nasty minion from someone's Shadows of the Past. I also like this against Venom Goblin or when playing as Venom. Those symbiotes come in guard and patrol on them. They can really derail your plans for the next turn. If Lie in Wait is out everything can proceed as planned.

    I've never actually included this card in a deck. Despite Black Widow (probably) being my most played character, I don't believe I ever played her in aggression. I'd say if I was running Widow Aggression, this would definitely be a one of. If I'm reading this correctly, it will have a pretty cool interaction with Nick Fury hero. And he gets extra benefits from Preps, so it may be revived a little there. Being able to kill up to a 6 health minion, or get someone set up to be killed by conventrated fire so you can drop back to Stealth Suit seems cool. I really do wish this was an interrupt or when a minion engages a player, either one would have helped a lot with value. My wild guess is that the aggression pack we get this wave is going to be a lot of weapons, tech and preparations, so this may need a revisist soon.

    Impede itself rarely survives in my decks. I think it's rather telling that in an episode focused on that card, there were two decks for the same hero. Sure, Impede is better for Kamala than anyone else, but it's just not that good a card. Kamala only has one use of Shrink per turn. If she uses it on Multitasking, she's adding 4 threat removal. If she uses it on Impede, it's only two. I've stopped trying to add Impede. It's just not that good a card.

    • @WinningHandPodcast
      @WinningHandPodcast วันที่ผ่านมา

      To be fair, we don’t confer when we choose decks, so we could have picked others. And others have accused Impede of having anti-synergy with Ms. Marvel, so this combo can’t win either way 😅

    • @mcandyr
      @mcandyr วันที่ผ่านมา

      I definitely get that! Any time I play a deck with Impede, I love it, but I rarely keep Impede in myself. There are definitely other heroes that it can work for, even in these comment sections. I think Gamora and Shadowcat enjoy it too. I like it with Ms. Marvel and Turn the Tide so that I can keep doing main threat resetting, then do 5 damage and recur turn the tide to do it next round.

    Having trouble seeing any deck with Foiled in it as any kind of a "serious" deck. Foiled is one of the worst aspect cards in the game, full stop. Great episode though!

    • @WinningHandPodcast
      @WinningHandPodcast วันที่ผ่านมา

      I think discounting any deck based on a single card isn’t a good policy, and creates some of the problems we see on mcdb, where people are afraid to experiment with decks…or worse, afraid to post at all because they won’t get any good reception. That could shut down the great community resource that the site could be. And bring that opinion up with KennedyHawk, who has said in record that by the end if the game, he thinks it will be one of the strongest cards in the card pool!

    • @mcandyr
      @mcandyr วันที่ผ่านมา

      Interesting, I don't think I've ever heard Foiled as a hated card. It's a pretty great way to control the scheme on a flip down to alter ego. Since, it's just an "interrupt," you can play it on alter ego. Since two-boost icons is the most common, it's essentially 1 card to prevent 2 threat. And I think in this deck, since there's only 1, it's meant to be a cue to the beginner play to flip down. You draw it and see that they can flip down without adding a ton of strain to the table. Not a bad way to help teach someone the game. But also, it's okay if Foiled isn't your thing, I just don't know about invalidating a deck because of it. That's a new one to me.

  • @yazank87
    @yazank87 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Good episode. Interesting point you made about how it should have more punch because you have to wait to use it. I never thought about that. I actually think maybe the opposite is (also) true for preparation cards- the fact that you can play them ahead of time and have them ready for when you need them gives some inherent value above events, which you’re kind of hoping you’ll see at the right time. And that also allows you to pick your spot to use them so it’s the most efficient use.

    • @WinningHandPodcast
      @WinningHandPodcast วันที่ผ่านมา

      I agree that there’s value in having the option to choose when to play the card and not just hoping you have it when you need it. But also it means it doesn’t have an immediate impact? Have to balance that on your deck!

      @@yazank87 I acknowledge that that is the whole point of preparation cards...but it's the mindset really, that defines it...playing it and knowing you have it up your sleeve is different to playing it and not relying on it (or taking it into your calculations) and really just use it, when it matters most...both are ways to play it, but the latter is definitely way more effective!:)

    Impede is one of those cards that often makes my short list but almost always gets cut before my deck is finished. The main scheme limitation is a bit of an issue, at least in solo. I regularly use Clobber though.

    • @WinningHandPodcast
      @WinningHandPodcast วันที่ผ่านมา

      I think the main scheme limitation is real, but I don’t find it gets in the way as much as people say. When I play it in a deck, I almost always have a fairly easy way to use it.

    • @Anondod
      @Anondod วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@WinningHandPodcast It could be because I tend to play build-heavy decks and almost always solo, so the space for events is limited. Those events need to really earn their spot, which means anything that has restrictions and doesn't play straight into the main combos gets deprioritized. In a multiplayer game this would get played more just because there will always be enough threat on the main scheme for this to be worth it.

  • @Ddwlf27
    @Ddwlf27 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Impede is clearly an efficient card, Effectively 1.5 per resource, which is sig card level. But Obviously main scheme only is the biggest limitation. In my event based Justice decks, i do commonly run 6 thwart events. Typically Clear the Area & Multitasking or For Justice & Multitasking. But I do think Impede is a legit option to replace one of those. I think 2p is the sweet spot for the card, as once you get to higher counts, you so kind of want greater output. Tho for Ms Marvel specifically, i've leaned into the multi-instance thwarting cards - Three Steps Ahead & Multitasking along with Passion for Justice and Operative Skill and is a thwart machine.

    Like Andy said with the first deck, it is labeled as a multi-player deck, so I guess whether or not the deck could use more damage dealing would depend on the make up of the other hero's deck, though I agree that Ms. Marvel can be awesome using Turn the Tide, especially since her hero ability can double up on it. @Bogrin For general testing, I think Ultron is really good because of the heavy pressure he puts on, not wanting to let his scheme advance to stage 3. Red Skull is also good because you will always have a side scheme to thwart. Taskmaster is just a really fun scenario to play with justice. If you want to test the merits of the deck without as much stress, Wrecking Crew can be fun. Collector II and Sinister Six both offer some interesting plays due to their emphasis on thwarting. And scenarios like Hella, Magneto, or Apocalypse really emphasize a well-rounded deck that wants to see consistent thwarting. For a stress test, Venom Goblin is the ideal candidate for justice, imo. There are others, but this should be more than enough to get a sense of what your deck is capable of and how it wants to function.

    One issue with Impede is that because it is just main scheme, if you only have 1 or 2 threat it becomes very inefficient. In Solo, it is common to draw into Impede and have this happen. Solo seems to have a large voice in our community. That being said, I love how this series is also trying to highlight orphan cards. I am going to give Impede another chance. Great video, by the way, you two!

      Thanks! Yeah, Impede is an interesting card between solo and multiplayer. In solo, it’s the card that cheaply undoes a scheme. In multiplayer, it’s just a part of round upkeep surviving the step 1 of the villain phase. It’s definitely nice for heroes who want to do a lot of flipping like Ms. Marvel or Gamora

    Fun episode! I've been wanting to use Impede more lately because of the efficiency and value. I do not like how in-flexible it is, but in the right deck I think it can work pretty well, especially in multi-player. It gets quite a bit stronger if you can use it in a hero that can ignore crisis/patrol. I will say though, that I do love the Impede + Shrink + Overwatch combo. That really lets you hit a side scheme hard with some built in efficiency.

      Team Building is pretty great! If you want to be recurring Red Dagger, it’s a good card, but just for playing, I think your only targets are Red Dagger, Moon Girl, and Champions Mobile Bunker, and Moon Girl wants to be paid for instead of discounted. But it’s definitely a great card when you share traits with key cards!

    Impede can be shut down as a (useful) first card by Crisis icons, Patrol & Confuse. Solo it's just not worth losing the flexibility of For Justice, that's without needing the differing efficiency. I never even play For Justice as Clear the Area & Multitasking are better & provide plenty of threat removal. Multiplayer I have no idea. I do like Clobber so it should be OK but the loss of flexibility is where it loses out I guess? Props for the name of the Ms Marvel deck, builder Marksquare. It's tagged multiplayer so presumably it's for playing multiplayer. I wish more people would use those tags. There's a tiny bit of anti-synergy with Ms M & Impede since she can recur it herself. A deck featuring one copy of a card & another saying it's the last 2 cards in the deck has not convinced me of the cards awesomeness, but please do keep making these videos

      Glad you enjoy the video series! I actually have found a lot of use for this card recently. I think it’s undervalued by the community as whole, in the “meta” that people have created. But there are times it’s good!

    • @DMTip
      @DMTip 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      These are some of my overall feelings with impede. I love flexible cards and impede isn't always the card you need. In that moment where your team needs you, as the justice player, to draw into that crucial threat removal, Impede could possibly let you down because of Crisis. Clobber is really solid because even if you have a Guard minion, you can at least clobber them. If you have a patrol minion or crisis out, you can't impede the main scheme. For Justice wouldn't be able to help you either against patrol, but could be used against a side scheme with crisis. There is a reason the featured decks didn't run 3 copies of it. That said, I don't think it's a terrible card. Event sources of thwarting could always get new life breathed into them from future card interactions.

    • @mcandyr
      @mcandyr วันที่ผ่านมา

      I totally understand the feeling and the main scheme restriction, but I've enjoyed getting to play Impede. It's funny that even decks that find a way to avoid the crisis and patrol (Shadowcat hero) don't get a ton of love with the community for some reason. but also, it's cool to hear how you see it, especially within your playstyle As far as anti-synergy, I thought the same until I played it. It was so nice to save my hero ability for different cards because Impede came back all on its own. So I would often use Impede to clear the main (because that can happen every round), use Turn the Tide to do 5 damage (with Embiggen), and then bounce Turn the Tide back with my hero ability to do it all over again the next round. With both Shrink and Embiggen, I can consistently do 5 thwart and 5 damage. If I'm doing multiplayer, i'll add in Overwatch it and play it to the main after doing my combo. It's super nice to have 5/5 for 2 ER + Exhaustion, that's as good as Gunboat Diplomacy.

    From my observation, it seems that the players who obsess over meta strategies like hand size and effective resource measurements are former/current MTG players that can't shake old habits. Chasing the perfect meta makes sense for a competitive game, but MC is not competitive. The cool thing is, if you want to play it that way, you can! But I love that you aren't forced to.
