Coolnanave
Composed this air over a dozen years ago, first time I did a live attempt (earlier today - warts and all!). I’ve named it “Coolnanave” after the area of my Finn ancestors outside Mitchelstown. DADGAD tuning, key of F. I think a whistle would bring out the best of it!

Éamon An Chnoic - Mickey Finn and Bill Finn
มุมมอง 277ปีที่แล้ว
“Éamon an Chnoic” with Mickey Finn on fiddle accompanied by his father Bill on piano. Recorded in the home house in Roscommon during an impromptu session in 1983. Though the recording quality is basic it shows Mickey at his best with the slow air! Bill’s piano accompaniment is spot on too!

A wonderful finger picking performance on the acoustic guitar !
Great rendition id this classic
"Maybe its better we never know when Things could ever be that good again".
I remember Mickey, his music and his helplessness. Thanks Johnny, this song proves that emotional time traveling exists and it's a fitting memorial to your brother Mickey Finn, fiddler, musician and entertainer. Powerful words that accurately describe the physical, mental and emotional torture of the morning after. 🙏
so beautiful. the besht x
R.I.P.. One of my all time fav songs beautifully sung.

So good, yet so sad, to see so many people from back then, Johnny. Nhoj, Lorraine McDonagh, Tony Small, Seamus Mulligan, Mary Murphy (Sheffield), Mick Lally, Seán Chóilín Ó Conaire, Pat Connelly, Johnny Keaney, Brian Mooney, the wonderful Noel Sherlock (I miss him still!), Greg Cotter, Mike Treacy, Terry and Mickey, Johnny Finn, Mick Taylor, Gerry Carty, John Hoban and Brendan O'Regan (Castlebar boys!) .... I could go on... Thank you for your music and your amazing archive!

Thanks very much for this - I worked in Galway for a year in the eighties and knew him to talk to as well as his music. It was a different era when life was more intense and it would simply not be possible to explain to someone now how it was back then.
See in fairness.. you were in England…. These craters 🤣😂
Class..privied to meet them..rip few..some ppl then..
Lord dress us n shave us!
I R A SUPPORTER. ridiculous letting him have a microphone.
Thanks to those so very clever people who recorded these geniuses, characters and musical gems at a time when we all thought there was only today and truly lived in the now and thanks to you John for sharing. 🙏
