In this video, I get to the bottom (or rather, the top) of an issue that has arisen as a direct result of the constant barrage of rain and snow that we've been getting hit with in the Mojave this year.
During a drive out to Big Bear, I noticed a drip coming from the seam on the overhead center console in my 2019 Power Wagon. Since my rig doesn't have a sunroof, tracking down the source of the leak was a bit easier than anticipated.
My particular leak was very localized and only seamed to be at the front, top center of the headliner. The only structure that could have leaked was directly above, which is the center most clearance lamp. I head read on a few forums that water leaking into the cab via the clearance lamps was not all that uncommon. On occasion it was due to a crack in the clearance lamp assembly, but most of the time it was just due to a bad seal.
I removed and inspected all the clearance lamps for damage on my rig, but all the lens assemblies looked fine. Not wanting to take any chances, I put silicone on all five of them instead of just the one. The screw that holds them to the roof has a nylon/plastic washer which I highly advise replacing. You can use a rubber washer or a rubber O-ring.
I did reach out to the dealer about a replacement washer and as expected, they don't sell it individually. You have to buy the entire light assembly ($99 smackers), so improvisation it is.
I did this job 3 months before posting this video and have been through a whole lot of heavy rain and snow. I am happy to report that I have experienced no leaks since then.
