Searching for a Secret Infinity Pool on the Hawkesbury River | Sea Kayaking
Inspired by a cool photo, Rob and I set off on an extremely hot day to kayak the Hawkesbury River to Refuge Beach, a secluded beach in the Ku-Ring-Gai National Park. What happened was...a little complicated. Don't bring flimsy flip-flops.

I Went Hiking a Week after a Bushfire

Australian bush and summer are synonymous with bushfires, and bushfire season is upon us. A large section of bushland in a national park near me was in flames the previous weekend, and with the threat passed, I decided to check it out! Come hang out with me as I walk through the Garigal National Park and see the damage. #australia #hiking #bushfire
Hiking Mt Batur at Sunset (Bali)

Climbing an active volcano?! Rob and I hiked up Mt Batur in Bali - at over 1700m, it’s Bali’s second highest volcano! Most people climb this beautiful mountain at sunrise - but we wanted to skip the crowds (over 600 people are on the summit at sunrise, compared to the small handful we saw at sunset!) and we definitely did not not skip breakfast 😁

The adventure of seeking out a hidden infinity pool amidst such stunning scenery sounds exhilarating! It is nice to follow your adventures and discover these hidden gems with you. 💖
Bogans with their boats flood the M1 and Hakewsbury every summer.... 10 months out of the year the boats are parked on some suburban street...Less morons with boats would be AWESOME.
Google maps is our friend 👍
Very interesting Aussie history right there. Great 🎥
Thank you!
I used to camp at Jerusalem Bay
One golden rule for any adventure, regardless of your ability or age, is know when to stop and turn back. Safety first. I am glad that you did. Perhaps try again next time and be more prepared.
So true! My footwear was absolute not suitable for any rock climbing or scrambling, and the way forward (whether it was correct or not) looked unsafe. I’m glad we turned around instead of having a bad fall. In the future, I’d look to bring proper footwear for sure
There must be another way up. I went up there a few years ago and it was an easy walk up to the rock pool at the top. There was a lot more water coming over the rocks when we were there. And we were the only Yacht there.
I am sure you are right - I think we missed an obvious turn off somewhere on the way up!
Refuge Bay is pretty deserted in winter but summer, particularly in the holidays and on weekends, it’s packed.
I was diagnosed with unprovoked extensive bilateral pulmonary embolism @ few years ago at 42 years old. Best advice I can give is don’t take blood thinners as I felt so bad when taking them. Hope you’re getting better. 💙
great vid thanks. yeah wearing a wide-brim hat essential; Ive found working with the tide works best; I go up with the run-in and back wth the run-out
Great video mate! The cicadas are horrendous here atm but something us aussies have to live with😂 You have a reason to head back now and find the pool!
Very true!!! I’ll have to head back and find this infinity pool
Thanks to everyone for stopping by! Apologies in advance for the cicada sounds here - impossible to remove or avoid. That’s summer in Australia for you! If it’s any consolation, they were equally as distracting and loud in real life 🦗
Despite the detours, still a pretty good day adventure I would say. That camera angle at time 8:45 came out really good! I always love those Aussie trees. Makes me want to come home.
Thank you - you’re too kind! The cicadas are a very uniquely Australian sound, that’s for sure!
Just came upon your video. Im 44 and I'm still dealing with PE. My 1st symptom was shortness of breath just out of no where. Thought nothing of it as I have Exercise induced asthma and its cold and flu season. My 1st symptom showed up Oct 10th. On Nov 5th my shortness of breath was so much worse, i was coughing but no blood, i had no pain. I had a high heart rate that would not calm down. So i was forced to the ER on the 6th of November and was Diagnosed with Saddle Pulmonary Embolism. Both of my lungs where pretty full. I was started on the shot and my vitals went stupid. I had to be put on O2 the entire night i had to have virals every 15 mintues. I got admitted to hospital than got transferred to a different hospital that i had to be medi-vac to. There my vitals was through the roof so i had to get a surgical procedure done so it was off to a different hospital that could do it. I was placed in ICU for a few days while i was on Heprin and on the shot. I never had the extreme chest pain until i had the shot. No fun at all. After the surgical procedure was done the doctor showed me what they pulled out of my lungs. I was days away from dying, my pulmonary artery was almost completely full. While they where pulling oit the clots they found old chronic clots. So now i have to see a specialist for that. I spent 29 days in 4 different hospitals. I was on O2 for 27 days. I have been out of hospital now for 15 days now and im not having any fun in the recovery. Im dealing with extreme chest pains still, on walks short of breath and at times because of the pain feeling sick. I did get a infection in my 1 lung while i was recovering in hospital. So as for any permanent damage im thinking i might have some just not sure yet. I'm very active i go to the gym a lot, i train a lot as i do obstacle races. Everything is on pause right now which like you expressed sucks.
Wow - sounds like a very rough journey, and I’m sorry to hear all that. A lot to get through! It’s a very scary thing, not fun for sure. I really hope you can recover quickly, with as little permanent damage as possible, thanks for sharing
Hello Rocky. Having an animal companion does make life more enjoyable. We love our Miniature Schnauzer, Rogen, which is our fourth one. I notice the food bowl you have which is designed to slow down eating. Dogs have a tendency to eat fast so we tried the same thing. It worked for a day or so but he figured it out and still eats fast.
Just discovered your channel so I am starting with your first video. Looks like you are off to a good start and hope all goes well with you.
Thank you for your kind comment! Hope you enjoy them 🙂
Life is definitely short. Im 70 yrs.old and it seemed like yesterday ŵas 28.❤ Stay healthy.
Hi there! I am so happy i found your videos as i am also 28 years old and just suffered a PE in mid-October! It sounds like you had it a little rougher than me with a few clots, whereas they only found one for me. In the lead up to my PE i had some slight back pain but no shortness of breath. My PE was discovered because i woke up in the middle of the night having a seizure. My partner called the hospital due to the seizure and then through all the scans at the hospital they discovered that i also had a PE (long story short on the seizure - turns out I’ve also had Epilepsy my whole life but never had a seizure until now). My doctors are weary and cautious to connect the seizure to the PE, but after hearing the pain you experienced in your back and chest and how closely that aligned with my pain in the immediate aftermath of my seizure, i am starting to think the PE caused my body an immense amount of pain and trauma which then triggered my seizure (which im more at risk to experience due to my epilepsy). Similar to you i am now on blood thinners and doing my best to maneuver the recovery process. Its hard to be patient and take it slow (i was literally supposed to run a 1/2 marathon the weekend i had my PE) but similar to you i have found going for walks to be an enjoyable way to work my way back. Still experiencing chest and back pain especially when i lay down, but it lessens with each successive day. Just wanted to share how thankful i am for your video and how nice it feels to know there is another younger person going through the same experience as me. I wish you all the best and hope tour oath to recovery continued to go well!
Thank you for your kind words! I’m so happy to hear my story could be helpful :) It’s harder to work through it all when you’re young and fit and the recovery guidelines are demotivating. I went back to running around 4 months after my PE and found it to be easier than in the weeks leading up! So even though the recovery is slow, it gets better (although the comments that I was “so young” to have this from every medical professional were getting frustrating!) Wishing you a quick recovery as well!
@ do you mind if I ask if they ever found an underlying cause of your PE? I have one outstanding blood test for a genetic disorder but the majority of my tests so far have come back negative and my doctors are trying to mentally prepare me for a reality where I have no clear answers for why this happened. I am doing my best to prepare for that - but would be curious if you got any answers yourself?
@@alkirehomevideos I have somewhat of an answer, but unfortunately it was not enough for doctors to say it was provoked and so similarly, it remains a bit of a mystery for me. Genetic testing came back for me showing that I have a Factor V Leiden mutation, however only one copy of the gene, which is not enough to cause clotting on its own (two copies of the gene is where the clots happen without triggers). I was told taking estrogen (i.e. the contraception pill) combined with the mutation was likely the cause, but unfortunately no one was able to say definitively, as even that combination has a statistically low chance of causing a clot (so many people take the pill and have this very common mutation, who never get blood clots). I am on blood thinners for life largely because they can't pick a specific trigger so can't rule out it happening again unfortunately.
Great vid! Pretty sure I’ve seen a doco about this haunted place before. Very interesting. Agree the remember to smile in the creepy bit is a bit weird😂 Enjoyed this! Subbed🤜🤛
Thanks for watching! Really appreciate it 😄
Did you get the jab?
How many clot shots did you have
I had three shots in the hospital before being discharged
oh man, few things drive my anxiety up more than not being sure of the trail I am on, and yet it gets thinner, and thinner and thinner. And I know I should be going uphill, but the trail keeps going downhill. Do I turn back? Do I continue on? argggghhh. Nice video - thanks!
I know! It was a bit anxiety inducing! 😅 thanks for watching!
This was such a beautifully shot video! I hope you do one for Lake Lyell, my favourite place🙏
I am only 30 and eat super healthy, was mountain bike racing, training every day either gym weights or being in the mountains, have no risk factors and suffered pulmonary embolisms in both my lungs about 3-4 weeks ago. Just like you, for days I was attributing this to some deconditioning, pneumonia or having been recently sick, maybe in my head, until I started coughing blood. I'm a primary care doctor too and it didn't cross my mind I could have PEs till I coughed blood. Grateful I am alive. But this has been difficult to process and on my mind everyday nonstop. I just started biking but I had to take more breaks and take it very easy. Like you, I could not stand the first few weeks not allowed to exercise and then I did it on and off. I'm a horrible patient. I carry oxygen trackers and rest if my heart rate goes up too much. I still await my follow-ups and worry what the future will bring. Thank you for sharing your journey, not a lot of people in our shape and age that have this - just knowing we aren't alone in this and to understand how this affects us mentally, thank you!
Thank you for sharing - I was so scared for the future too, and just wanted things to go back to normal. I have come across a handful of young, healthy people who have had PEs, I wish it was talked about more, I thought it was not for someone like me (to the extent I had even heard of it). I am on the up now six months on, things are finally back to normal, and I am so thankful. Wishing you a quick recovery, and that you can get back to mountain biking again soon.
Did you have the shot?
@@mimiexplores thank you! I'm glad to hear you are doing so much better. I am finally back to biking and actually I can't remember the last time I've been able to breathe this well. I am so very thankful. I'm still taking my blood thinner although life finally has started to feel normal again.
@@mossyoakmom8880 yes but last one was 3 years ago
Did you go to RPA? I was there for 22 days. Such amazing doctors and nurses.
Oh wow - thank you for sharing your story! I know the feeling of breathless from a walk, especially when it doesn’t make sense with where you believe your level of fitness is at (stairs were doing it for me as well, I would be wiped for 10 minutes!) It definitely changes your view on life - the first few days were quite confusing and overwhelming, but over time it turned into a feeling of gratitude for life. I went to Northern Beaches Hospital, which was great, though I was only there 24 hours. ED there has some incredible nurses and doctors, they were a bright spot during an otherwise scary time. Glad you’re healing and hope you recover quickly
I was seconds away from suffocating from a PE. Having survived, it's interesting how it changes your perspective. What helped me in my recovery, mentally, was listening to an audiobook about Stoicism. Can only recommend that!
I felt the same in April, just 2 days before you. Unfortunately I didn't go to hospital and nearly died on a walk around the Bay Run!!! So glad you're fine!
thanks for this video the past like 2 months since i took antibiotic to try to clear up my sinuses (it didnt help) i have been having shortness of breathe ever since on and off. when i lay down for bed or anytime really it goes away and it mostly only happens soon as i stand up. i still have been doing my cardio on the treadmill 3-5x a week 30-40min and physically i feel fine except this on and off shortness of breathe. i noticed my chest being sore a few times from where i took so many deep breaths it made my chest sore. i dont know if i have what you had or if its just anxiety or something but i never had tis before and am starting to get worried with it not going away. i read so many thing online of people having the same symptoms and the doctors telling them everything is normal and they just wasted their time and money some even going to like 10 appointments for nothing. so i am scared of wasting my time. today my chest hurt when i got up felt like my sternum or bones were stuck i cant describe that pain but after stretching and doing some exercises it seemed to subside mostly. i also smoke medical marijuana and am in front of a computer 24/7 for work and gaming after work so im in a very stressful environment and sitting here a lot even though i do exercise and eat healthy. im thinking if this doesnt stop i have no choice but to see a doctor. i also take too many nicotine mints not sure if any of that could be the issue.. i hate this i know that
This is so similar to my own experience in late July. I'm 34, and am quite active. I had weird sudden muscular pain up my neck, back and shoulders and then had chest pain on left side when breathing in. Ended up in emergency room - everything looked fine. Doctor got me to do a D-dimer. Doctor called me that night to go into hospital as I had a high alert on my d-dimer. Sure enough they started me on heparin before I'd even had a CT scan, but everything looked fine. Sure enough after high contrast CT scan I was found to have a large blood clot in left lung and a smaller one on my right. No DVT. No obvious cause for it, no obvious clotting disorder found. Looks like I'm on blood thinners for life it looks. The near death experience is life changing tbh.
Thank you for sharing your experience. Similar to you, I don’t have a clear cause (outside the contraceptive pill, which isn’t considered a strong enough cause), and am talking with doctors about the need to continue long term on medication. The near death experience completely took me by surprise, and honestly I’m still coming to grips with it several months later. I feel so grateful everyday that I’m still alive, and that I’ve gotten through this. Wishing you a quick recovery ❤️
@@mimiexplores Wishing you a full recovery! :)
Did you get the shot?
@@mossyoakmom8880 are you dumb?
I had PE about a week ago. I was in the hospital for 4 days. They couldn't figure out what caused it but shortness of breath, chest pounding was scary. Thanks for your video and getting the word out.
It was the same for me. No DVT. Chest pain on left side. No obvious cause. I'm 34.
Never heard of anyone young getting blood clots. That is until the covid shots came about.
Wow, this killed my father at 72 but he had been a smoker all his life.
That covid vax is a doozy. Thank Pfizer on this one.
My father has dedected PE and now it is CTEPH and doctor told only PTE surgery can cure this. Father is 69 yrs old but he is like 50s, because he was doing gym untill this issue arise. Breathlessness while walking starecase and daily activities. Please pray foe him. Within few days we will consult to 2 3 more doctors and go for surgery
Hi there, hope your recovery has gone to plan. Just wanted to highlight I have recently had a very similar experience but in my case I had actually gone to my doctor with concerns about a calf swelling but because I am very active (albeit 66 years old - I run, swim, hike, golf, still play cricket for example) and I even said I wanted to rule out a clot in my leg they examined me, said it was mist likely a calf strain and said come back if it gets any worse. A month later I had all the breathless symptoms similar to yours and like you put it down to fatigue or mild illness. Then had major breathlessness when I tried to run ended up in ER and diagnosed with PE. My initial symptoms were disregard because I was not overweight, sedentary or smoker and no cancer but blood clots still affect active people and medics often disregard the signs if you don’t fit their stereotypical presentations. I am in recovery doing well but have been told months to go before I will start getting back to normal activities. It is so demoralising but is helped to know that a. I survived and b. You and other like you are out there. Thank you for sharing your story.
Thank you for sharing your story. I’ve read so many stories similar to yours about doctors dismissing serious concerns and symptoms that warrant more investigating - seems very common for PEs to be missed unfortunately. My recovery was slow at first and it felt like things were never getting better, but it wasn’t linear for me - after a few weeks/months I felt like I was improving a lot quicker. Everyone differs, from what I understand. I’m back to running for which I am grateful for, 6 months on (after speaking with doctors, of course), and have been back to the gym for a few months. I often sit and pause, and feel grateful that, like you, I also survived. Wishing you a quick recovery and you can return to being active soon!
Even though you're active, how often are you sitting? Or laying down?
@ Generally get my leg up after any activity for a short period or am having say a cup of tea, Reading or watching the tv
Im 1 month out of PE diagnosis,,the biggest challenge of my life i feel like im getting better but far from normal ,thanks for sharing your story
Thank you. PEs are a huge challenge but things do get better. I’m six months out and feel miles ahead today compared to where I was at (even from when I made this video). Wishing you a quick recovery!
There's a lot of research on why young people are getting so many blood clots recently, if you search youtube for "increased bloodclots" you can draw your own conclusions

HI Mimi. I'm glad you and your husband had a great weekend. Happy 30th birthday. Could you maybe tell us what camera equipment you use. Your footage is very smooth and professional. I don't seem to be able to do it with my phone. Just wondered what you used. Thanks
Thanks Tony - appreciate your comment! For most of the footage (particularly in the first half), I used a Sony A7 IV with primarily a 20mm f/1.8 Sony G lens. The walking shots are with a GoPro 11 (the stabilising makes the shot really smooth, and it’s so small and easy to carry around - it’s smooth even when running), but I use my iPhone as well for quick shots when out and about.
Thank Mimi for the info. I have always been keen on the Sony and am due for a new camera . I have a 12 year old Canon 60 d. This just might be the excuse I need lol. Thanks
