@@solironwolf1168 Yes there is. It is also called a fuller. Thanks for watching.
Nice knives. I agree on the wood splitting. I have a couple of buck 124 model knives. One is new with date code stamp but the other is quite unique. I’d like to show you a picture and see if you know anything about it. It is a 124 with a serrated spine like a saw back but it’s more decorative. It also has a lanyard hole in the handle. I had one guy tell me it was from Vietnam time frame. Any help would be appreciated
@@gvines Because of the lanyard hole, it lends me to believe that your knife is from 1971. I believe that the serrations may have been added, not done at the buck custom shop. Hopefully someone with some real knowledge can chime in. Thanks for watching take care.
Excellent review.
Buck is the Grandaddy of em all🤷
Appreciate all the videos you upload.
@@1seanv Thanks, I appreciate you watching!!
Small knives struggle to do large knives work often resulting in damage. You will never damage a large knife doing small knife tasks they just become more tedious.
@@onedayaway1297 I agree. Also, most of the notches used at Camp can easily be done with a larger knife as well. Tent pegs, shelter poles, and pot hangers don't require a 4-inch Scandinavian ground knife. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I bought a puma Bowie at a garage sale back in 02’ with loose cracked scales and some blade corrosion, still had the sheath. I I think I paid $10 for it. I took the time and went through it putting it together and cleaning it up. Like you I change the edge geometry closer to 20 degrees and it works like I charm. I found out last year you could date from the serial on a puma. If I recall it was from 1968 which surprised me. A good knife.
@@onedayaway1297 wow!!! Great find!!!
It actually looks great with a clip point!! I laid the edge back on mine just like you did, thinning them out behind the edge REALLY makes these RATs great performers. Its a dam shame you cant get these for 40-50 bucks any more. Really nice work sir! ✌️
@@jimbusmaximus4624 I agree!! Thinning out the edges on a lot of these knives can really show how well the heat treatment is, rather than just relying on a very thick edge geometry. Ontario knives used to make some good quality blades for the price. Thanks for watching and take care.
Sharpening a knife is an art, the more you do you sharpen your knives by hand, the better you get at sharpening them and not scuffing the knife up on the blade past the bevel, that's my biggest pet peeve regarding knives. I've gotten so good at sharpening & honing my blades that most people mistake them for factory edges. This is why I stay away from knives with super steels. Those knives are for absolute beginners who don't know how to use, sharpen, or are too lazy to maintain their knives, not to mention they're way overpriced. Knowing how to sharpen, and use your knife the way it's intended to be used are very important things to know when building a knife collection and using your knives for the ultimate experience.
Looks like a Bill Siegel custom in style, at least to me. It looks good.
If it is such a good knife why does it need to be modified.
Make it your own good stuff
Now, it is a Kephart knife. 😊great Job! What do you think, about the Ka-Bar Kephart?
@@Druide-ie1pc It actually reminds me of a small Hudson Bay knife. Especially in use, being a stout blade. A good friend of mine has the Ka-Bar Kephart knife. I've used it some, seems like a great field knife. Thanks for watching!!
Knice!
👍
Good video, I appreciate it.
Love a knife with this grind on it easy to keep sharp an man you can get it super sharp!
@@johnwyatt27 Completely agree!! Thanks for watching!!!
They got a inside deep pocket perfect for a flask of 180 % ever clear grain alcohol perfect for starting 🔥🔥 wound cleaning pain killers shot to warm up etc etc so many uses for slickers and grain alcohol
I added a dangler to my shearh. Very easy carry.😂
❤😂😢
Tengo uno igual en cocobolo...y es muy bueno. Corta como un demonio... cuidado... Sólo tienes que tratarlo con cariño y responderá siempre ! Saludos desde Barcelona ! 😊
What a great and informative video! I just purchased a sog super bowie today and am waiting for bark river to have another run of macv-sogs. I've mostly heard of horror stories of hidden tangs dealing with kabar knives. Which i would believe with a .16 stock. But like you said, with a .25 thick stock on the sogs, if you break that thing there's a 99.9% chance it's user error!
I just got one. Sharpest factory edge I've ever seen. Mirror on the apex. I never heard of this brand before.
Thanks for sharing 😊
Great videos on this knife, definitely one to keep in mind for my next trip. I love how different it is, it looks very elegant with that handle
Nice blade, I really like the ESEE.
It is nice, especially once I convexed the edge. Wonderful knife. Thanks for watching!!
I agree, I have always enjoyed the overall usefulness of a larger than bushcraft knife. There is some sacrifice, however for me it is a good balance for overall use. I prefer a little longer, thiner blade, with some weight to it. Great points thanks for sharing.
I couldn't agree more, my friend.
Use JB Weld. That sucker will never come loose again.
@@knifeguy3357 Yep, that's exactly what I did. Then proceeded to pound it through some seasoned ash and all is good. Thanks for watching.
I got a hat last year, and I just finally ordered the 2042 duster. I just need something to go feed the cows in the rain, I ain’t gonna be working in it and testing its limits. I was gonna get a shorter coat like you got on here, but I like dry pants. I’m literally only gonna wear it to feed my animals on the few rainy days we get here in California… oh, and I’ll already have a cool wardrobe started any upcoming apocalypses and ensuing wasteland wanderings…
Use industrial loc tite. You have to heat it to get it loose.
I love my buck 119

Watched your entire series on this knife and purchased it this evening… Very good review I am a new subscriber 👍
@@lastminuteman Great !!! Thanks for watching and commenting.
It is a nice knife, somewhat weak due to its concave hollowing, depending on the task assigned to it. If you can, change it for the Original Puma Bowie 6376, you will not regret it, a powerful all-rounder, it supports any demands you subject it to.
@@victorrossomano5025 I'm sure that an original Puma Bowie is extraordinary!!! However, I cannot imagine breaking this knife, whether it's Hollow ground or not. Thank you so much for watching and commenting.
@@glbwoodsbum2567 The concave castings have not been designed for heavy tasks, you just have to take care of that, but apart from that detail, the edge of that 6396 is a scalpel. And it also has a moderate weight and is very portable. On the other hand, in the 6376 the weight is a difficulty to consider, since its 6mm thickness carries a lot of steel, and it is 20cm of blade with table and flat casting, a beast of 420 grams. Enjoy that 6396!
thanks for the vid. can you not go to a hardware store and get a nut for it?

Thank you for pointing out the facts about the steel. I like the buck steel. It's awesome to sharpen and it keeps an edge. No need for super steels.
Exactly!! Excellent steel, no need for anything different. Thanks for watching.
Hi, great jacket, you wear. Over the decades, I have tested a lot of jackets with modern textiles during bad weather and a lot of them are doing well but no comparison to my oilskin Jacaru from Wallaby, that jacket is still doing a great job. You are right, oilskin gets really stiff by frozen Weather, if you use wachs to impregnate it but with oil you shouldn't have any problems, thas my impression after decades of use. Wish you many nice days in the woods- I'm about to go out for a week(Black Forest, Germany) and can't wait for it 😂
Thanks for watching and thank you for sharing your wonderful observations!!!
The knife is to small and light for a bowie.
Bowie knives can be large or small. An example of that would be the vest pocket Bowie knives that were carried many years ago. Thank you very much for watching and commenting.
Such a great, underrated knife!
Its a very good general use belt knife. I use this knife for my small game-bird hunts here in Alberta. And i am sure i will use it in future deer hunts. Thx
Really dig the micarta handle & stonewash blade!
