Side by side comparison of two Mk3 Suzuki Jimnys. Facelift V Pre facelift shootout. 2009 v 2013

Here at My Suzuki, we follow certain guidelines when we choose what we deem the ideal age and mileage to be for a Jimny from Japan, which is dynamic and changes as time goes on. We currently have a stock of both Facelift (2012 on) and pre-facelift (pre 2013), and having two black examples was the ideal opportunity to compare them, as a question often asked is "what is the difference?" What year is it on ? And how much does it cost please
Hi it's a 2015, and can be seen on our website mysuzuki dot co dot uk - we're not 100% sure on the final cost until the IVA, we may put a set of tyres on, but it has an approximation there.
Ultra measured cute 😅
terribly unsafe vehicles, zero crash protection and barely able to get up to highway speeds. Driven them in japan - shocking.
We've driven them for years, they aren't motorway vehicles. Or high speed vehicles. It's horses for courses.
That's where the safety factor comes in. They're so slow, you won't impact anything hard enough to kill you.🤣
@@RetroDaddyPH but you’ll need a tin opener to get out of the vehicle if anything hits you. Frighteningly unsafe.
Can't you drive a motorcycle on the highway where you live? Stop discriminating.
I have 2 660cc Kei Van's both have turbos and are both are for sale on Ebay they do cruise all day long at 70 mph obviously you ain't going to drive from London to Scotland but I can tell you know they get off the line quicker than you think the other non Turbo I have is slower but all 3 vans are reliable as clockwork .
Theses are a very popular import here in Australia , loads of them on the road, probably cheaper for us to import here than for Europe tho.
never seen one IRL in deck form, i wish they were everywhere
@@juki6377 here in Australia we call them *Utes* ☺
@@wikdstixofcheese you'd call something with a tray this small a ute?, a mighty boy yeah why not, this? not really. Still i havent seen any zooming around vic
@@juki6377 haha i would put into the same size class as a mighty boy 😂 at the end of the day , it is what we call a ute here is it not ? a tub or tray in the rear 🤷? i mean its not a *REAL* ute by any stretch , not a commodore or falcon ute or what not , but cool regardless. And no , not heading off to bunnings to load it up with 2400x1200 sheets for a weekend project 🤣. ive seen a few kicking about , more so the 2 door ones , but a couple of *"deck"* ones.
@@wikdstixofcheese oh yes dont get me wrong, these look great. I see a few hijets but never this form factor (i hang around bunnings enough)
sweet
I have a late 2017 Jimny and it was quite a bargain as the new model was then due to be released. It has increased greatly in value since. I also have a 2013 Ford Focus (from new) notorious for leaking water into the rear of the car when the numerous rubber seals fail. Mine did. Within a year the underside of the Jimny was going rusty and the exterior paint finish on the Ford is so much better. In fact, two of the steel wheels on the Jimny were so rusty that Suzuki replaced them under warranty. In the meantime, there is zero rust on the Focus! I often joke that if I stare at the Jimny for long enough, I can induce a scratch. The interior plastic is of very poor quality too. After 30 years of production, Suzuki didn't sort out the tendency for steering wobble at 50 mph, a very common problem. That was unforgiveable. I have had polyurethane bushes to replace the rubber ones in the steering track bar, rebalanced the front wheels and that has now fixed it. However, it is a lot of fun to drive the Suzuki and I have been all over the country with it. Everyone likes to look at it, often with a bit of envy. People always let me in or out of traffic congestion with a smile, whereas in the Ford, it's a dull (but very smooth) drive and people won't give me an inch in the traffic. The Jimny is my preferred car and I would recommend owning one for the endless pleasure of just driving it.
What a great and true to life tale!! They aren't the most modern, if they're not looked after thoroughly they'll rot before your eyes, but despite their flaws, they are just brimming with so much character most owners are happy to overlook their negatives!!.
I love my jimny ❤❤
Thanks i am considering this for my jimny
Go for it!
Thanks bro for the video you're a bloody legend
Did I just watch a video because of the thumbnail only to find that it was just a deceptive trick.
not sure? I just checked out your channel because I like beef???
My only gripe with these cars is the rear lights. They just look odd. Two piece units should look as one imo. Minor thing but it does niggle me. That shelf in the boot that makes a level floor when the rear seats are down is not a feature on UK spec cars. Which I find incredibly daft.
They look like toy RC cars from the stills.
They drive like them too - they're a lot of fun!!!
You think those are small? The original pre-S 997cc Mini Coopers had 7 inch brake discs. The Cooper S got 7.5 inches and later 12 inch wheeled Minis ran 8.4 inch discs.
😍😃❤👏👏👏👌👍
From where can I buy the parts to make the car keyless entry + start?
Hi - it's very difficult, if not impossible to add keyless start to the car. Much easier to but one with it already an option.
What did you buy also to install it
Excellent video with great info. I will be looking at this as I have an 04 jimmy that you drive 1 km down the road , stop at a red light and revs drop to a 1000 and then drop to 500 back to 650 and then back to normal idle. Thanks for taking the time to share. Cheers
@@rsbharley4766 one thing I forgot to add as i had already done it, drain some coolant first. Only enough to drop the level below the throttle body, or coolant will leak out of the hoses when you remove them.
I Ve the 100 years Suzuki anniversary(1909-2009) special edition of the Jimny.... Its full of Japan flags and others Japan stuff... Never seen another Jimny like mine.
Where do you get these?
We buy them in Japan and import them to the UK.
Great video, thanks! Do you need to drain the coolant first? I've tried to remove the throttle body, but from the pipes attached to it, it is dripping a lot of coolant. Any tips ? Thanks
Sorry for the late reply - we've been away. I should have mentioned this. As the Idle Control Valve works from the temp of the coolant, it has a feed in and out. However because its so high in the system, it only needs a small amount to be drained so it falls below the height of the throttle body - if that makes sense?
Very Good like subscribe 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks for the sub

They are incredibly tough, and go anywhere with the right modifications.

awsome thanks alot !
You're welcome!
Carpet dye makes the car carpet go really rock solid….
Yes it does, I found brushing it with a stiff bristled brush helped soften it.
what did you use to clean the iacv and throttle body?
we use an EGR & Carb cleaner spray, the one we have at the moment is from Holts and is around £7 from amazon.
Thank you for sharing. Im having trouble the same with you revving at almost 2k rpm idle. Im using manual jimny
Did you fix it?
Just had Micky underseal my gen 4 Jimny and he’s done a great job. Wouldnt hesitate to recommend him.
That looks awesome mate 😆 👍
Thanks 👍
Great video, appreciate the effort to explain the 'how' as well as the 'why'. Spot on!
Glad it was helpful!
Oh, you're back. I was hoping to buy a JB43 from you having saved up and you vanished🤔. Glad to see you again. 👍
Do you still have the money you saved? We have a good choice right now 🚙
Doesn't the digital part still read in Kms though?
Yes the odometer will always be in KM, which is better for continuity as there is a paper trail from Japan, through registration and first MOT (as long as the tester ticks the box for KM when creating a record)
Thanks for the video. I think the jimny car was stopped in the EU due to CO2 emissions rather than demand. The only way they could sell it in the EU was to market it as a van instead....
Sort of, they could sell it, because the emissions weren't out of the ordinary, but across the range Suzuki wasn't meeting the EU directive, and had to add a surcharge. It's only my opinion, but they are so overstretched with keeping up with the rest of the world, it makes sense to pull out of the EU. Which I suspect is the reason the Light Commercial has now been pulled - so they can concentrate on the rest of the world.
Apart from the looks how does it perform ? Is it any more comfortable
Yes, it does make the Jimny ride better, the lift provides both more comfort, and gives the car less wallow in the corners.
Thanks! Very useful video! I'm just working on rear bumper exchange...
How did the bumper exchange go? was it an aftermarket one?
I have now offroad metal bumper, but thanks to your video disassembly was fast and smooth. Assembly was a problem, little bit...because that bumper did not fit well...
Really useful information
Glad it was helpful!
Really interesting and informative 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
It’s so cute though! Look forward to seeing your progress with this little pink cutie!
Thank you! 😊
Will you be changing the central cluster to uk spec? Do the mirrors fold shut when you lock the doors? And open when you unlock?
While it is possible to change the cluster to UK spec, we haven't been able top source anyone able to do it. The majority of experts in this field are Russians, and they aren't prepared to do it. We have contacted more than one, and they won't invest the time or equipment. The mirrors open when you start the engine, but I'll have to get back to you about them closing. From memory they don't, although they do on the ignis.
Are you going to make a video on upgrading the infotainment system? I'm getting one here in Holland and i was thinking on upgrading one aswel and i would like to see how you wil do it? I was also thinking of getting one that is able to have cd's play on it aswel but i don't know wich ones have that ability or a cd exchanger option...
It is also a top spec model, the dutch variant is called style
Trims review, mysuzuki .... ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
you think there's rust inside the doors?
It's too early to tell, but I wouldn't imagine so, unless they have a design flaw.
they are quite overpriced for having such a low quality built...
It's a supply and demand thing - they're popular, pretty unique in the small 4x4 market, and hard to get hold of worldwide.
Real Cool. Exactly what I was wishing was possible. An automatic 4x4 version. Do you bring these cars to the UK brand new or are the second hand imports? Also roughly what is the added price ontop the official price to cover the costs of importing etc?
King Charles may want one
We're waiting for His Highness to get in touch - I'd love to see him in a Jimny!
Why do you have to put it through an Iva when the car is officially sold in the country anyway
All cars imported to the UK have to go through the IVA process, apart from the fact the Jimny Commercial is the only Jimny available to buy in the UK, this is the four seat version.
is this a common problem with all of these worldwide or only in uk
Depends on where you live and if they salt the roads. Not gonna happen like this in Australia, South Africa etc.
It can be an issue anywhere in the world if you live near the sea, as the seas breeze can put salt on your car. But no - it's mainly just the UK who have a ridiculously low minimum tyre tread depth (1.6mm) so the local councils salt the roads to ensure the safety of motorists driving around with virtually bald tyres, for the sake of a handful of days a year. Which systematically destroys cars, especially 4x4's with ladder frame chassis.
