I tried it before. The insurance company's recommended body shop did a horrible job. Bumper kept falling out after they fixed it. I brought it back to them several times and it still kept falling off. They finally said, that's the way the car is, nothing more we can do. I had to bring it to a real car repair shop and they fixed it once and properly. I'll never use another insurance company's recommended car repair shop again. Its probably dangerous and not worth risking your life if they do a haphazard job.

It will only "save them money" if the vehicle doesn't get repaired. A supplement will capture the difference, unless it totals.

The term" mirror-matching" is technically incorrect for verifying new parts. A mirrored part would mean that the left side and right side are mirror images of one another, but I know what they mean by it.

The whole storage system is really neat, I might have to suggest that idea to a body shop I used to work at. The techs usually leave the parts in their bays and it was a pain when I cleaned their stalls to figure out if a part needed to be thrown out or kept.

I'm working on this very car atm. Trying to get the top to go back up! Not finding much help online.

Air bags are cheap to replace. Repair estimates are way over-estimated. Someone else will buy the car for nothing and fix it for nothing. "Rebuilt" cars are often body damage and an airbag or two. It keeps the auto industry going though.

I used to go to independent shops like this one (Mohawk is impressive) and I ended up with nothing but issues down the road. Things like not removing rubber molding before painting so the mask job left the paint and rubber become one and clear coat that started to peel within a year and 25 years later I still remember the name of the shop. My estimator this time was at an independent shop the insurance company selected - I had no choice- and he said his estimate was 99% accurate on body work. I did not use his shop. I used the Toyota dealer body shop instead with insurance approval. Their final bill came in at $1300 over his estimate and I have never been more impressed on the quality of work done. Lifetime warranty on the paint job too. It looks factory. Couldn't believe it. All this because of a hit and run which cost me $650 for a rental car and another $350 deductible on the body work.

What's better to learn? Collision technology or refinishing? My school that I'm attending in fall has 2 different programs like what pays more?

Finding out what’s wrong with the car can’t be inexpensive! I’m guessing several hours of work goes into the inspection process and then there’s discovery and the documentation for the cost of repairs. I hope you got paid for your work by the insurance company. Seems like they total many cars regardless of the damage. What’s next for this car probably be auctioned off. Does anyone follow up with your documentation after the auction sale?

Yeah my insurance company offered 10 year warranty on repairs due to a car accident while I went with another company and the do a life time warranty! Go figure.

I am glad that you investigated & found out what was going on. Hopefully that insurance company will not only drop that body shop as a preferred choice but have them investigated. If the owner of that HR-V did not take action on her own she would have been driving a very unsafe vehicle. What that shop did was more than incompetent. I wonder how many vehicles they "repaired" but are so screwed up that the vehicles are unsafe?

Do they have tear down techs Or does the body tech tear it down and reassemble? who is doing the reassembly? Such a pain trying to find all the pieces. seems like the first piece you need is always under the mountain of shit .

Must have been a preliminary estimate. There is no way it could be 3,500 with air bags deployed.
