5 WORST Things About Living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Philly comes up on a lot of lists for affordable urban living. I'd love to be a train ride away from NYC too.
It's definitely a benefit, being so close and connected. Where do you live now?
Seattle proper. Love everything about it but COL is very high 😎
@@kevintodaro8501 If you've got the ability to relocate you should come and check out Philly!
Yardley borders the Delaware river has a canal running thru it and a lake in the center of town.is 1 sq mile housing 2000 residence in affordable housing, with good school, no crime, lots of parks of various types, sweet.
Great work Dawn. Loving your Philly pitch!! Philly and its surrounding burbs are a great place to live and work. It is awesome to see all the new development.
Agreed!
Great work. That was a fun review of Philadelphia. You are right Philadelphia has seasons. We help people keep their homes comfortable. 😊
I'll keep this in mind!
Philadelphia consistently ranks above the national average in terms of crime, especially violent offenses. It has the highest violent crime rate of the Top 10 American cities with a population greater than 1 million residents as well as the highest poverty rate among these cities.
@@us-unclesam6566 awesome You're really good at finding stats! You should make a video about it 🙂
Copy and paste from WIKI.
I love your channel.
Thank you Charlie! That makes me happy 🙂
Great breakdown! It’s amazing how these hidden gems often fly under the radar-definitely keeping these neighborhoods in mind for future investments!
No doubt!
Center city better than Bryn mawr
Is this a statement or a question?
Ya es tiempo
How would you compare Center City to Midtown Manhattan?
Not sure, I've never loved in Manhattan
Looking to visit Philadelphia soon. Does the train station (John Penn 30th Street) have a taxi rank? Are there also taxi ranks in the city centre near to city hall?
Nice picture showing social security going up in flames.
Not if you move to PA 😉
SEPTA has no $$. How will the city maintain public transit?
Great question but I'm not the one you wanna ask.
😅😅😅....there not reasons to not move here
@johnsullivan3375 exactly! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Wait I can text you anytime on Twitter if so I will like to chat with you.
I don't even want to go to Commiedelphia, let alone live there. I avoid going there if at all possible.
Where's far Northeast Philly?
Are you asking which neighborhoods would be far northeast? Or are you asking me to make videos about the far northeast?
@MaximizeYourHome the latter. Far Northeast Philly is always ignored
@@NathanAponte hey Nathan I accidentally replied from my other channel "Maximize your Home" BUT I totally agree. The far northeast is my favorite. I do a lot of business in the northeast like Somerton, Rhawnhurst, Parkwood and Morrell Park. I am lagging on my newest release but you'll be happy to know that it includes N.E. Philly!
@@LivinginGPP Looking forward to it! Don't forget Fox Chase and Pine Valley!!
Nathan this weekend I'm posting a video that will include Fox Chase, Bustleton and Torresdale. I hope you like it!
I want to talk to about your youtube channel. Can you give me some time?
I live here in Philadelphia. I really hate the downtown district because I am sick of the homeless population. I feel so unsafe when I go to Center City. The public transportation is not safe. There are nice neighborhoods in Philadelphia. I just wish Philadelphia would get the homeless and drug addicts under control. Also, public transportation desperately needs more police. Gee, I wonder why there aren't enough police 🤔
I agree @angelamwatts things need to change. I don't hang out in Philly at night for events like concerts and so forth the way I used to.
There are two drawbacks to living in New Jersey (that I'm aware of): 1) higher property tax; and 2) retirement income is taxed.
@randorific333 you are absolutely correct about both of those things. There is also an exit tax if you leave NJ within a certain amount of time of moving there! A lot of retirees from NJ & NY are coming to PA. Whenever I am helping a buyer who is trying to decide between PA & NJ, I always make sure they're aware of these differences. Young people don't seem to care. And often you can get "more house" for less money in NJ then in the PA suburbs. So there's a trade off for sure. There are parts of NJ with low property taxes too. And for people who want more land and still be close to Philly, you definitely find more options for less cost in NJ.
@@LivinginGPP Thanks so much for the details! I'll be planning a trip next year (first time) to check out Philadelphia with the possibility of relocating. What's going to be important to me is walkability (I don't own nor want a car), feeling safe (being a senior gay), accessibility to SEPTA, and being within 20 mins. from the Gayborhood. I'll check out your other videos!
@@randorific333 You will find lots of great options for what you need and luckily even most of our suburbs are well connected with public transportation. When you're ready to dive deeper or have any questions feel free to reach out to me.
My dad moved us up to Richboro in 1969, he bought a half acre a few years before for 2k in an older development. Loved my childhood
@kaydublin5164 are you still in Richboro? I have family in Richboro who absolutely love it there.
@@LivinginGPP no unfortunately I’m in Dublin, 30 minutes away, my in-laws have a home on 2nd st pike.
@@kaydublin5164 Dublin is a beautiful area too!
I’m 24 years old & unfortunately grew up poor in Southern California with little support from family. I’m sick of the cost of living & was forced to work full time instead of going to college. I want to move to Philadelphia.
@elijahmatthew5270 I'm sorry it was a rough time growing up. There are lots of opportunities here for young people, with or without a degree.
I was just in Pitt this year in July and I felt a difference between Philly and Pitt.
@jedinumber1817 which do you like better?
@@LivinginGPP Well since I'm from Philly and I've been to Pitt I would say Pitt over Philly
Love your channel and videos!! Man, that first house LOOKED like 1999...
Yeah I agree! It's definitely dated and needs an overhaul.
Levittown rule's.
@sicpup-qg4xl I live very close to L-town and lots of family members who live there. It is a great choice!
Lived in a house on the neshaminy creek for 25 years, will never move
@margretpinehaven2 I don't blame you! It's beautiful along the creek.
I thought this would be a video talking smack on Bucks, but it turned out to be a video talking smack on people who don't live in Bucks. Genius!
@OriginalStraight thanks! I am happy you enjoyed the twist. 😉
The Polititions and the press were always Bigots toward the white blue collar people after so much and the growing crime they left, the new rich folks are scared out of their minds they have no connection to this city they will never fight to keep it.Its the left wing Lap Dog mentality, even when they are victims they are afraid to act mad.
She knows nothing about blue collar phila thats not there anymore, and the gangs, and what people had to go through, the Great Parrishes thousands of people,it was a great place for family's,i have no idea what the hell she talking about.Nowhere in Phila is safe people only walk at night in groups.Once they get on their phones and rampage all the new rich whites run for cover, they will never fight back.
I’m a tight wad so I’ll probably just come for a visit 😂😂
@Gunnercv TBH me too, but I live here! 🤣🤣😂😂
I love it!
thanks!
I have written and E-Mailed the UST Upper Southampton police and Bucks County DA's Office several times over the last 25 years with no results, I stopped by the UST police station one time, and officer said they were not going to do anything about it... I will stay on their case... Muckraker News - Hate Surge: The Bucks County DA’s Office must admit they know of this problem: There are people who have been making severe electronic sounds in Bucks County Pennsylvania and most likely the Northeast United States for 25 years and more. The sounds are around private property and at county facilities, District Court, Court House, Correctional Facilities, Parole Office and Township Facilities. At the BCCF, Bucks County Corrections Facility, there are even severe electronic pulsing sounds in some inmate’s cells in the middle of the night, trying to provoke them, they are trying to force inmates from their properties. The same electronic sounds have been used throughout Bucks County Pennsylvania for the last 25 years and longer, to bother honest citizens trying to force them from their jobs and properties. A waste of Tax-Payer’s money… They have made it known that they are going to privatize the community. They have the electronic technology to make electronic sounds 24/7. These sounds may be, (voices, noises, tones, pulses, waves, hissing, vibrator) and Doppler effect frequency shifts. The electronic sounds are on the highways and roads and are a driving and pedestrian hazard. They want you to walk in front of a ‘Tractor Trailer’. The severe electronic sounds are making people sick and ill. This is very reckless behavior, we don't think we need to smile and take a picture, something has to be done about it now. The community has had problems with these people for the last 25 years and more, the police have done nothing to stop it, there has been property damage, individuals have been drugged and jobs lost. We do not want Electronic Sounds on our properties. If nothing is going to be done about it, people must be protected and made known of these problems. A stand-up news conference would be a good start to tell everyone what is known, what kind of electronics equipment is being used and what is going to be done about it. The county must be pro-active about these problems, the further problems have gotten down the road, the more serious the problems have become for everyone. It has never been reported on, it is a News Media ‘News Game’. The Group Thinkers use the community silence as consent and momentum to propel them forward, unopposed.
LOL.
Love your vibe!!!
@yoniwan2343 thanks!
Great and entertaining analysis. I was 6 years old when we moved into our brand new Levittown home. I'd love to come back and spend some time to visit. [I've been in Manhattan Beach CA for 48 years].
@fredtaylor6079 you were one of the original residents! Nice to meet you :) I live VERY close to Levittown and many of my relatives live there. And I have been to Manhattan Beach CA, it's beautiful so I can't blame you for staying put!
Compared to Montco, middle and Upper Bucks has and is always been legally super strict. Police over charge people knowing the accused will plea out to lesser offenses. Good luck finding decent Lawyers up here. Very few and looking at $1,600 retainers that will be expensed out very quickly. Avoid Bucks.
I do agree you gotta watch yourself in certain areas! Make sure you're not speeding or doing anything dumb cuz the cops are bored. Thanks a good sign though! Less crime if the cops are that bored, right?
Who is running Bucks County Pennsylvania. We pay the Taxes, then there are electronic voices & sounds at District Courts, the Court House, Correctional Facilities, Parole Offices, Township Facilities and around properties to antagonize property owners. The ‘Deranged Group Thinkers’ want our properties. This has been going on for the last 25 years and longer. Bucks County has the complacent disrespectful audacity not to do anything about the insurrection. Law Enforcement has been told many times about this problem without any action, Law Enforcement has to be rigged. It’s Time, Bucks County had a News Conference and let everyone know what is going on…
@CACTUS48 what in the world are you even talking about?

@allyberry33 Thank you and I'm happy you enjoyed it!
What do you think about Ave of the arts with the University closure?
@buickguyENC I do not think it's going to affect the neighborhood as a whole but I'm curious about what happens to the building. It's sad that these schools raking in tons of money from tuition and donors can't get their financial act together.
Following my divorce in NJ about 24 yrs ago I moved to an apartment in Doylestown and I loved it there (still do). But in a quest for a bigger space my GF and I moved into another rental in Hilltown Twp, just outside of Perkasie and we loved it there even more. Doylestown is great but some of the people (too many) had this holier-than-thou attitude. Perkasie was nice because it had a real small town feeling without the 'tude. Plus it still had a country feel to it yet was close to everything. Downtown Philly was basically and hour away down Rt 309. When we finally got some money together for a down we found we couldn't afford to live in Bucks anymore so longer story short we moved to Lancaster for basically almost half the cost. But I still love Bucks and if you dropped me out of an airplane anywhere in Solebury Twp, I'd be a happy man.
Agreed it is so expensive in Bucks. And the last relocator I recommended Doylestown too said the same thing about the PPL they met! Luckily they only rented a hotel there for a few days while they felt out the area and those nearby. Lancaster is a hot spot these days. You must have purchase a little while ago? I don't do business in Lancaster since it's so far but I did read that the prices have risen quite a bit out there too.
@@LivinginGPP Yes, my late wife and I moved here 11 yrs ago and bought a 1990s townhouse in a small quiet dev, 1800sq' for $180k, and today it's worth at least $260k. Yeah it's a desirable area and the growth is tremendous but painful at rush hour. There are still bargains to be found but you really have to spend the time looking but be ready to act given the market these days.
We’re in Bucks county but once we retire we’re really contemplating Lititz in Lancaster county. Not the cheapest place out there but we love it. I’m just afraid it’s going to get too built up. I don’t mind the tourism part like some too much as long as it isn’t too bad. The tourism dollars keeps the restaurants and bars afloat.
@@chrisd4432 Yeah it is getting built up more and more thanks to the livability factor, just stay off of Lititz Pk during rush hour and you'll be fine.
@@markdecker6190 yes I've been on Lititz Pike during rush hour. Our only son will be going to college next year if he ends up close by the wife and I might retire there. Right now it's about the perfect mix- real nice walkable downtown, low crime ( hopefully stays that way ), and you can get a suburban lot type house or a bit more rural and still be a stones throw from town.
These cities attract different types of people. I don't think either would like the other.
@bjt81366 agreed and that's exactly why I made this video! 🙂
@@LivinginGPP Philly is the best of both worlds. We do have the creature quiet places that you can find in Pittsburgh as well as the low price housing for a big city. But we also have the Fast-Paced urban jungle filled with amazing restaurants. Fine art + world class culture that you can find in New York. If you move to Philadelphia and live around the Art Museum area, you will find serenity in quiet parks. However, if you choose to live in the Rittenhouse square area, you'll find bustling city streets, cafes and neon everywhere. But the cost of living is so much lower than New York and there's so much more to do than Pittsburgh.
@@bjt81366 You are so right about Philly! And that's why we love it. 😀
At the end of the day, people are basically the same in America. However Philly is a strong east coast atmosphere especially when you do road trips to NYC and Jersey. Pittsburgh has more of a Midwest vibe and feels less east coast. A Pittsburgh person is more likely to not know Jersey but will know Ohio areas
Wonderful video...where are you located (professionally)? 🫡
@thomashuston9180 Thank you for the compliment and I'm happy you enjoyed the video! To answer your question, I typically concentrate my real estate business activities within a 20 mile radius of where I live which is Bristol Borough PA. That includes parts of New Jersey too. However, I have helped buyers and sellers further away and even other states as I have a nationwide network. If you need anything at all feel free to reach out to me anytime. 🙂
I lived there for 64 years and i didnt know any of that stuff. lol
Thanks for watching!
I don't find the weather to be unpredictable and ive lived in philly almost my whole life. We have different seasons but if its cold in the morning its cold at night. In the west it can be hot in the morning anfmd cold at night.
I guess if you download the weather apps it's more predictable!
Local laws gays have more rights than heterosexual what is disgrace Sanctuary cities what is disgrace
Are there really naked bike run? I love Philly btw!
@BLUEWOLF8300 YUP! There really are naked bike runs once a year. Where do you live now?
@@LivinginGPP very interesting!
Ill have to give the edge to Philly. For One Liberty Place alone. Ive never been to Pittsburgh.
@jimfaust6342 Agreed! Philly is best!
In my experience none of my Philly friends have ever been to Pittsburgh. I think part of the reason is because there’s so many places to visit on the east coast like New York, Jersey, Washington DC, etc. Plus Pittsburgh doesn’t get much media attention so it kind of stays “invisible” in American culture (outside of sports)
@@ramencurry6672 So true. I have been to Pittsburgh. But it doesn't get the same attention Philly does.
I’ve been thinking about Philly for the last stage of my career and retirement
@seanoslin5299 where are you now Sean?
