Scan it and 3D print it in weatherproof casting material. Put it back in Turkey, create tourism, and stand back and marvel. Question: The amphitheater was so steep, was it even used as a stage? This proves old vids never die, they just hack the future! Peace.

This might just as well be a broadcast from another planet, compared with the dumbed down, ephemeral, PC-infested excuse of a world we live in now. All the giants are gone, alas. Thank you very much for uploading.

The Pergamon "Museum" is the quintessential plunder institution in Europe and represents the plunders of German thieves who are marketed as "archeologists".

OMG, I wish this man would stop asking about money! Here you are with this obviously thoughtful, creative subject to interview and you keep on asking how do you feel about money? How much money did you get paid? Did your family have much money? Then he says that his style was gimmicky and then he says oh what were you interested in when you were photographing these subject when he has just told you he was interested in making pictures with the camera. What a waste of an opportunity.

As with the Elgin Marbles, they ain't getting it! Seriously, though, I can see the mayor's point. I do think they owe the city some reparations, maybe in terms of funds for preservation of archaeological sites & projects to boost touurism, building a modern museum, infrastructure, etc.

Just an observation - neither Adam Faith nor Tony Hancock use a cigarette lighter in their interviews despite being relatively wealthy. Both can only stretch to boxes of matches, it would appear.

I think I watched a different interview. All this praise was confusing, especially in comparing Beaton to Quentin Crisp, whom I expect someone like Beaton would be appalled to be put in the same category as the openly flamboyant Crisp. Many of his contemporaries have spoken of the vitriolic comments he used to make behind people's backs. Beaton was a talented bitchy snob. It is all part of that package that made up Beaton.

The portraits show Cecil Beaton made the subjects feel "comfortable" one can't do that unless they like the people they are photographing. it takes a long time to get the right shot, the right lighting, sometimes pose or expression.

He was a brilliant talent, and an interesting man, but by all accounts a vicious snob and a daunting enemy. How Kin Hoitsma fitted into this mannered, affected world is quite beyond me. I can only imagine that on Cecil's part it was a fantasy, as was his chaste relationship with the famously lesbian Garbo. I would think that underneath this arch, nasal posturing is pure steel. The interviewer is very good however. If you are really interested in Beaton, 'Cecil Beaton at War' is a stunning book of his war photographs, and another book which is hard to find, of his diaries when he was in Hollywood during the filming of My Fair Lady is surprising. To my amazement he loved it, and thought the speed an professionalism of the set builders and reproductions of his designs were astonishing. Thanks for this post.

Well how different to what was coming down the pipeline. Two years later it was the Beatles irreverence and humour, no nice boy act there. I agree with the other comments on this thread that he comes across as well adjusted and pleasant.Though you could hear the trouble in John Freedman's voice when he is pressing him on his values, e.g. what personality traits would like to be known for and even more so the question about whether it is right that an entertainer aged 20 should have so many teenagers at his feet. That was the view of many people at the time, e.g. that that money and commercialism was creating a rather tawdry society of here-today-gone-tomorrow, of fads and fashions. Whilst real things like knowledge and wisdom was ignored, even though those sort of things should be the leading lights most admired by the young instead of some pretty face who happened to be the tabloids favourite of the day. In that of course the John Freedman's are right, as that is still so today (why we push our kids at school) but what has changed is that we can see room for both. And the patronising has gone. Remember when Freedman asks if he can read music, this was part of his needling at his vacuous fame but again, to go back where I started this comment, two years later we have Paul McCartney , John Lennon and George Harrison who also never learnt to read music, yet after a few years this question was never again asked of a young pop star because the Beatles showed it wasn't necessary for musical dexterity and talent. The John Freedman's learnt to love pop music, no longer a threat to civilisation. But the commercialisation of life? - we are still trying to square that circle.
