Surprise Kingfish on light softbait gear | Wellington Harbour Fishing
In this video, I manage to catch a nice 83cm Kingfish. I was extremely surprised when it hit my softbait and I was in for a 20min battle on the light gear. After this we anchored up and managed to catch a couple of Snapper and Gurnard which is always good. I hope you enjoy it.

Nice vid, put electrical tape on the GoPro mic to stop the wind noise :)
Glad you enjoyed the vid, I usually have a foam thing to stop the wind noise but I forgot that day.

Cool video as always mate. The paua have a much better chance of you place them back on the rock, otherwise they’re relying on current or swell to flip them back over and can die.
@@martinjrobinson1 Glad you liked the video, I’ll remember to put them back properly next time
Bloody stonker kingi bro im still chadeing my firdt kingi hopeing to get one this summer from boom or the harbour
Good job . Is that a thunnus reel I see
Good to see you doing videos mate, would be great to see you placing undersized Pāua back rather than dropping as they are vulnerable to predators upside down and we want to look after the stock. Keep up the good adventures 👍🏽
Thanks for the comment. I'll make sure to put them back properly next time.
Cool elephant fish, you wouldn't think they need much resuscitating with snouts that big, but i like the technique you had, not bad eating them, missed my opportunity eating some fresh caught elephant fish, such a unique species we don't get up north. Also I noticed In some parts of the video I couldn't hear what you were saying because the music was too loud.
@@amoschristophers4567 thanks for the comment. Sorry about the loud music I was having some issues with the editing software.
Great video bro
Thanks for watching!
Nice bro I'm guna hit that spot this summer over by niwa ae?

Good work, keep the vids coming :)
would be very interested to see how it swims with no internal lead
@@kaneaustin7251 not very well, I have made a few since this video and they are much better.
Nice video mate - what kind of depth were you fishing?
Thanks for the comment, not sure exactly how deep but it would have been less then 20m
@@TurningTideFishing thanks for the reply mate - yeah it’s pretty shallow most of the way through there - wondered if it might be even shallower than around 20m
Love watching your content. We fish Wellington harbour as often as we can.Its a 2 and a 1/2 trip one way for us.
That's awesome
where are the kingfish
Check out this video FINALLY! I caught the elusive Wellington Harbour Kingfish on my KAYAK th-cam.com/video/D_U9OUP0q3M/w-d-xo.html
I bought soem of those Zman bruised Banana softies and they work a treat, caught a few snaps and a huuugge Gurnard (42cm) on it on the boat around ward island. very good fishing too.
@@skux9508 yeah had some great luck with them on gurnard
Great to see real young men fishing as they are supposed to. Fishing from the heart you are young man.
Went out today and slayed the Gurnard like you did, they were loving a little pink and white fanky jig.
Sounds good, only recently started using jigs and they work a treat.
Fresh Mackerel, one of the absolute best snapper baits, and you threw it back?
Pinkies all round!
Thanks for the feedback
Nice bro love it
Which month did you film this mate?
@@rgibson759 Kings birthday weekend so in June
@@TurningTideFishing nice, extra points for a winter king :)
Dame nice 👍 am still chasing my king fish for last few years lol
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the video and good luck for the kingfish
Awesome kingi you handled it like a pro. Wellington fishing looks good 👍
Cheers mate
Nice one. I've had 2 kingfish from the Harbour. Brilliant times 😊
I love this. I live in NJ, USA and we call Gurnard "Sea robins" and they are considered trash fish. This means more for me, especially on head (party) boats. To see a slow pitch video targeting them, well it warms my heart. I'm going out for Black Sea Bass on a head boat in 9 hrs so hopefully I'll be back with 10 bass and a ton of robins. Time to fill the deep freezer.
Glad you liked it
..millions of sea robins in Wellington harbour
where is yall kayak from ?

Hae mat awsome to see. Did you get this recently?

Solid fishing in welly bro, have a geez at our Auckland missions
Hi from Wellington, South Africa!
A lot of fish NZers describe as bait are quite delicious to eat. Like that Jack Mackerel you threw back.
Wow I didn’t know that I will try it next time.
lol was there dad lost the elephant fish cool video young fella and then dad made up for it awesome
Good stuff, was this in kenepuru?
Glad you liked the video, some of the fish were caught in Keneperu sound and some were caught in Pelorus Sound.
why let it go? they are very tasty
Couldn’t be bothered to process it when I already had lots of good fish at home for dinner.
cant understand much of what your saying? turn the radio down as that is unintelligible
That is an awesome looking stickbait you've made. Where did you get the shiny stickers from?
Thanks for the comment, I just bought some aluminium tape from Bunnings
