What the internet really needs is more mediocre cycling videos. Thankfully I’m here to fill that void (you’re welcome) and will be doing so as I attempt various audaxes, brevets and randonnees.

Solstice Sprint 2024 // 1000km ultra endurance cycling race // England and Wales
The Solstice Spring is a 1000km bicycle race through England and Wales. I completed the course in 57hrs 32minutes to claim 17th place (out of approximately 100) in my category. It was an utter delight to share the start, route and finish with some absolute belters! Chapeau to Liam and hid small gang of organisers, and to each and every rider that made it to the start line.

Home Nations 1000 (1000km DIY audax)

A DIY 1,000km audax through England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, and Wales... basically a lap of the Irish Sea with 10,000m of climbing. Featuring a Northern Monkey, a plastic Welshman and a Viking. We were lucky with the weather, but not all of us managed to stay on our bikes.

Winter solstice audax // 200 km // aero moustache marginal gains

After last year's cold and icy ride, this year's version of the Winter Solstice 200km audax was much warmer, but also much windier. Thankfully the UCI hasn't banned aero moustaches (yet), so good progress was made despite the conditions.
Rain, Shine, Gale Force 9: a new 200km audax from Crewe Clarion Audax

200 cold kilometres from Crewe to Frodsham to Chester to (almost) Oswestry to Shrewsbury to Eccleshall and back to Crewe. Icy conditions (we started at minus5 degrees) made this a slow and steady ride. I'm now gong to hibernate until the spring.

The Bristol-Glasgow-Bristol audax is a pig. Riders have seven days to cover a distance of 1600km (just over 1000 miles) and an elevation gain of 90,000 feet (27,620metres) including some long off-road sections (Wayfarers, Cam High Road, Salter Fell, Galloway Forest, Kielder Forest and others). Fantastic effort. It's strange, I really enjoy watching these long Audax videos.....especially yours. They fascinate me. But it just reinforces why I don't want to do them 🤣🤣. I've done a couple of 204 mile solo rides in 14 hrs including breaks, and that was hard enough. But what you're doing is on another level, I don't think I want to put my body through that. 🤣
Oh come on in… the water’s lovely! If you can do 200+ miles you can do so much more. It’s just a matter of trying to ignore the inevitable boredom and nausea, but those phases never last!
@@SaddleSore Funnily enough, I never had any nausea on those rides. Just very sore backside and feet, and slumps in energy even though I ate and drank loads. But yes the boredom is something else. Maybe they weren't long enough for nausea to set in.. The last one I did a year ago was in 28 degree heat with relentless sun. So I did have a bit of sunstroke. With The way I felt afterwards, the thought of doing it again and again after only a few hours sleep would fill me with dread.
I think I saw the two French guys on the grass in Coalbrookdale eating the whole of the Co-Op 😂

Great ride and video. How do you train for an event like this?
I’m not sure I’m the best person to ask about training… I just ride my bike as often and as far as life lets me! It takes time to build up (a handful of years) in terms of distance and experience. Every ride teaches me something new!

I’ve heard that Adam had a little accident when he saw the Jimnys. Apparently he had to bin a perfectly good pair of tartan strides.

That's a great ride. I liked the Fellsman certificate prominently displayed at the beginning. Now, that's a proper event. None of this fannying around on bikes !

I never knew that you can't eat the haggis's legs because they are poisonious. Nasty accident, I suppose people lose their concentration during long rides.
Never, NEVER, eat the legs!! Miscommunication caused the crash… we were all desperately trying to find somewhere for breakfast which meant we weren’t looking where each other was going. No-one’s fault, and no major damage done.
You must live in a stately home...living out in the sticks 😉😉😉
