Worm Fest 2024
WORMFEST 2024 was a huge success! With ten plus speakers, 180 people attending each day, and 130 for a regenerative dinner by the worm beds. The event's goal was to promote farming as a means of wellness for people, soil, and the planet. The event bought together like-minded companies, organisations, and farmers working together to promote this goal. Energy levels were high with David Hardwick from Soil Land Food and Nakala Maddock from NutriSoil setting the festival scene and keeping the crowd engaged during the two days. Joel Williams from Integrated Soils presented on Amino Acids, Secondary Metabolites, and their essential role working in tandem with nutrients and biology in growing healthy plants for healthy soil and food. Farmers including Matt Haggerty from Natural Intelligence Farming in WA, Grant Sims from Down Under Covers, Jake Wolki from Wolki Farms, and Tom Briggs showcased farming methods that BUILT soil health and produced food with fewer chemicals and tillage. Motivational speakers Heather Swan and Glen Singleman took the audience by surprise sharing key messages on how to develop resilience and continue to make steps towards your goal no matter the obstacles presented. Breakout sessions covering how to make bio stimulants, how to market your unique produce, how to build diversity, and how to transform yourself were held on the second day. A robust panel challenged participants in status quo and current practices to leave all attendees with motivation to think outside the box. There has never been a more powerful momentum toward sustainable farming from the economy and consumers than there has ever been. It was a JOY to all be in the shared space together creating wellness for all through farming. The event was supported by NutriSoil Biological Solution, ECTOL Plant and Crop Nutrients, Best Farming Systems, Soil Restoration Farming, Carbon Link, Vic No Till, Soil Connect, Soil Land Food, Re-Gen Farming, Down Under Covers, Soils for Life, Wolki Farms, The Pastured Promise, Schmidt Farm, Old Man Creek Grassfed Bulls and Taravale Flour and Lamb.

    I really enjoyed this talk. The information about cattle, methane and solar oxidation of transpired water vapor molecules was amazing to learn about! (I was a literature major so I sure don't know this stuff you're teaching) I can hardly wait for the next person to lecture me about cows emitting methane to unload on them my new wisdom gleaned here. Thank you Walter Jehne for your long-distance-runner hard work teaching farmers and others how nature actually works. Another point I took from this, having already learned about the soil carbon sponge from other talks you've given, is how the rest of the story about carbon cycling is totally ignored while the governments go on and on about how much CO2 is emitted each year from transportation, for example, when so much more is being emitted by forest fires and we're not doing anything to address that issue. I think I need to watch this again - there is so much to learn in this one talk.

    420 million year ago you can only guess. I don't have enough faith to be an evolutionist. Like his thoughts but as for me and mine, I believe man has oxidized the soil but God the creator had it under his control.Mot disrespectful just another view.

    • @ricdanger2
      @ricdanger2 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      so by that logic, basically we can do anything we want because god has it under control... am I reading that right?

    • @paulbray1870
      @paulbray1870 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ricdanger2 No. As a believer and my worldview of creation by God. I am saying He made the interactions of the soil food web, not 420, sure it's not 422 million years?The complexity of cells cannot survive by chance. I read about Korean Natural Farming long after my ag degree. I was taught in my soil classes that the microbes and soil biology were just there and unimportant. The agro industrial sector promoted better living thru chemistry. Americans poo pood the Korean way of farming with IMO's as backwards and returned to scorch earth our farm land. Adv Eco Ag, the Bionuterient food network and Elaine's soil food web have shown how letting the earth regenerate how quickly it can heal itself, just like our God created bodies can heal unless we cover symptoms with pharma. Again I like this guy's thoughts except everytime he says "ok" he expects the message receiver to say yes that's true this is a fact. I found his professor mannerism to be very troubling. Same as folks claiming GW based on less than 200years of recorded weather and several billion years of reported earth age. Simply a different interpretation of the same results that the earth can heal itself. AEA talks of maximizing photosynthesis allowing plants to improve the quality, quantity, and variety of root exudates to put lipids into the soil making the land fat! A very Biblical thought.

    • @billiebruv
      @billiebruv 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@paulbray1870 his "ok" isn't a requirement for audience acknowledgement, and why is his professor mannerism disturbing? Climate records are from ice core and tree ring samples, geology etc, even satellite images have yielded suitable information. John Kempf, yeah, self indulgence

    Please overlook my typing error that occurs below. "Bead rock" should be bedrock. It extends to a commercial quarry two kilometers from my property where it is extracted for road metal.

  • @johnstafford6043
    @johnstafford6043 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you Walter. Your soil density figures explain the disaster that is currently occurring on my property. Continual emergence of bead rock up through the soil indicates that over the past 70 years the surface of my soil has been lowered by 20 cm. It is not being eroded by wind or water, it is simply shrinking. This reduction in volume equates to a staggering 2000 cubic meters of soil per ha. Obviously due to to rising soil densities, associated Eucalypt trees have already lost their tap roots and many now have their lateral feeding roots precariously perched on top of the soil. I understand that the cause of tree dieback is an unresolved issue around the world. Could this be the result of an unperceived increase in soil density?
