Is it good? - "BOUKEN OU BEET: DARKNESS CENTURY" (PS2)
Let's tackle something very niche and barely anybody knows about to this day: Bouken ou Beet.
It has multiple games but this is the only one for the Playstation 2.
Game played on a modded Playstation 2 Slim.
Footage recorded with an ElgatoHD60s + HDMI Splitter.
Audio taken with a ShureMV7X.

6:15 Events of Driver San Francisco on Xbox/PS/PC happened 6 months after the events of Driver 3. This Wii version is assume is non-cannon, just like Driver Vegas/LA Undercover
There are some parts that make little sense (i've mentioned Caine in the video or how Tanner acts compared to D1 which would be fine but then we have the PS3's San Francisco.....) but according to Ubisoft and Reflections, the Wii version is a canon prequel to the original Driver. Similar to how Renegade the actual sequel is to the original, with events even before D2, or Nemesis (comic) plays between D2 and D3. Or even Parallel Lines and 76 technically play around 2 decades before the original.
Thank you very much for this video! I started playing this game and I like it because I'm a huge beet the vandel buster fan!
Kinda fun, isnt it? The only real "flaw" in the game is that it follows the Manga too closely to the point where it kinda forgets its supposed to be a game.
@@dragondavemk7917 I wish it was in english! 😢
This game is ok...rush rally 3 is still much better.
I mentioned in my Rush Rally 3 video that overall RR3 is the better game, yes. But i think Origins works slightly better as a top-down racer than RR3 tho.
I GOT DRIVER 3 ON XBOX ORIGINAL GAMR
You never watched the movies?!?
I might some day but up until now, i havent.
Played this game. It's alright
Love this blocky style of graphics. Michelle reminds me of Sonya Blade
The best driver game
I'm surprised that I barely see any reviews on this grat puzzle game I actually used to have this game for the Wii and now I'm just emulating it on ppsspp brings back so many memories playing it as a kid
I think this game is horribly underrated, the battle arena alone is really good,, I got up to Stiel, and beat him just once, and never could again, lol, and ofcourse I beat the game, I really don't understand why people don't like it much other than the lack of voice acting, and not being able to change weapons with the characters, and I guess the story is a bit generic, but most Jrps are about defeating Gods or Powerful aliens anyways.
Its fairly simple really. It got overshadowed by quite a few higher quality games, especially JRPGs back then, specifically FFX that came out the same year. And lets be honest, graphically Legaia 2 simply couldnt compete against Square's beast. People also compared it to Legend of Legaia and for most, it was a massive step-down (in a way i get it tho). But there actually is voice acting outside of the attacks. As short as the sequences are, there still are some rendered in-game.................but the english voice acting is beyond bad. Unless you are talking about Lang changing from a sword to axe, then you actually could change weapons. In the video, you can see Lang using different swords. But yeah, i also think its an underrated game. Overall maybe not as good as the first one but its still a good game.
Update: The game is on the Switch physically, via PlayAsia!
Thanks mate. Maybe i should do update videos about games i've covered, were digital only at first but got a physical version later on. Play-Asia saving the day yet again. I ordered it as soon as it was announced and already have it at home. It even comes with a little extra: Two lenticular cards which is nice.
I enjoyed playing this more than the ps3 or x360 version fr
If it werent for the forced motion controls, the WII version would easily surpass the PS3/360 version. But as is, its still above the PS3/360. I think the Wii version also makes a bit more sense as a prequel than the PS3/360 version as a sequel.
Great review, keep up the good work!
I used to had this game it's was fun loved the battle system and style but hasn't beat the game. That was a long ago
Toca 2 is so easy , is better the first
Its easy if you know how to drive (play racing games a lot). If you dont, then it can be a nightmare for newcomers (Toca isnt really beginner friendly). But sure, overall i also think its better than the first...........even better than Toca World (also did a video about it). However, the trilogy is GOAT level on the PS1 and in some aspects, absolute top dog even compared to the more successful franchises like GT.
The Driver A.I was immense.
This game set the standard. If there is no in car view then we going back to the caves!
WARNING: Toca World has a widescreen option in-game and without knowing (to this very day, someone was cool enough to point it out), i recorded the whole thing with widescreen "on" instead of "off". Thats why the video (especially during racing) looks kind of smashed and thats my massive mistake. I am very sorry about that and will make sure to look at the options in the game before recording in the future. Still hope you can look past this massive blunder from my part (yes, i am an idiot) and have fun with the video.
If you have the game set to widescreen when you record you need to make the video widescreen as well. Everything is horizontally crushed and it looks awful.
I noticed that while recording and had no idea why it was doing it. Yes, i am an idiot when it comes to stuff like this. I didnt even go to the options in the game at all until this very day and there i noticed that widescreen was indeed on, seemingly by default......i dont know. Kind of weird but now the video is done and i cant do anything about it. Maybe in the future if i revisit the franchise again or something, then i make sure to have widescreen off. Thanks for the info.
Another great review. Subbed.
Awesome. Thanks mate. May i assume you are more into Arcade Racers?
@@dragondavemk7917 yea. Not into technical ones at all.
@@sunstruck By "technical ones", do you mean Simulation racers like Gran Turismo, Forza, Toca, etc? I love them but i understand that its not everybodies cup of tea. Maybe "80s Overdrive" might be a game for you as well then. Yes, i also did a video about it a long time ago (i might redo it at some point).
@@dragondavemk7917 yes sir. That’s what I mean. And yes, thanks for the tip! Keep up the good work
Great review. Thanks
Awesome, man. I also did a video about the physical enhanced version of Formula Retro Racing: World Tour, which added nice improvements to the game.
I want this series to make a comeback so bad :(
As much as i love the franchise and as much as i would like to see another SB game, considering what Capcom now is, i would prefer if the franchise rests in peace for good. And considering that the last title was the Anniversary Edition of Sengoku Basara 4 Sumeragi in 2020 (which was an expansion of the original Sumeragi from 2015), then its safe to say that Capcom has little to no interest anyway.
Loved ocean games as a kid, never heard of this one before. Thank you for sharing :)
Thank YOU for watching. There are not too many of these around but i have a few already lined up on list of videos to do. So, at some point, they will happen.
@@dragondavemk7917 It was very interesting to watch. 😊 We need more games like this, they can be relaxing to play, like endless ocean.
@@kanatapaw Well, today there are more ocean games than ever in the past but sure, still not enough. But then again, i can find relaxation in different kinds of games, i already did videos about a few of those (outside the ocean tho). Just stay tuned and i will upload another ocean game at some point ;)
@@dragondavemk7917 There are definitely, can be a bit difficult to find sometimes but it's nice to know there's more options out there :). Other relaxing games can be fun to play aswell, like journey on the ps3. Thank you, that will be awesome, have a lovely weekend 😄
@@kanatapaw If you liked Journey (indeed a very nice game) then "Arise", "Spirit of the North" or even "The Falconeer" (not the battle part) might be your alley (all three are on this channel). Especially Spirit of the North. I found that one to be surprisingly nice. And btw, you mentioned Endless Ocean earlier, right? Try "Everblue" on the PS2, its from the same developers and the starting point in what later turned into Endless Ocean........or you can wait a while because i plan on tackling that doulogy in the future (yeah, only two games).
My theroy on Chen Chi is that Ray killed her. "But had a wipeout. Never drove again." He might have wrecked while showing off to Chen, then crashed and killed her in the process.
I am a bit conflicted on that. Ray already proved to her that he can drive based on the fact that the whole D76 game only exists for him to get together with Chen-Chi. He even had to battle her ex-boyfriend on top of that. Sure, could be that he wanted to show her first hand how good he is as a driver but i dont think he went that far and killed her. However, who knows. I think that she just broke up with him. Either because a better driver than Ray came along to work for Zhou (her father) and he decided "This is your new boyfriend now" or Chen-Chi herself simply got bored of Ray, seeing how she never showed real interest in him in D76 anyway. The interest was mainly one-sided (Ray to Chen-Chi). So, that Wipeout thing might be just Ray feeling defeated because he lost her and thus, he had no more reason to be The Driver. But he still taught TK how to be a driver.
Colin Mcrae Rally was another good one back in the day
Not "was", it still "is". Just like Driver, it wasnt a good game but rather it is a good game. I will tackle Colin McRae/Dirt at some point but right now, i still have the rest of the Toca/RaceDriver/Grid franchise in front of me.
My mom still wishes she could play this game 😂
Based mom right there. If she doesnt have a PS1 anymore, then Toca 2 is also on PC (at least physically. I dont know if its on Steam as well)
Thanks for the review!
I've completed the whole game which was pretty fun and its smart idea to select misson on the and access to it in parallel lines you need to use a vehicle to do the missions but when you have cops and you have to do lose them it takes forever and its frustrating and paying car damages but in driver 76 you can which is comfortable to do all the missions without going to the location that map says
nah WRC is bes tor dirt..this is more a bit..fungame than simualation like WRC
I agree. However i dont think thats a fair comparison despite both being rally games. WRC was developed by a decently sized team (a massive team as of recent since WRC is now in the hands of Codemasters) while Rush Rally was mainly created by one man with a far lower budget. Considering that, Rush Rally Origins turned out to be far better than most would expect.
The spinout issue is a constant theme of all toca games
I noticed that after having covered the PS1 TOCA trilogy. Maybe the idea was to force the player to not drive like a maniac, who knows. And while you can somewhat get used to the spinout issue, it still didnt need to be as heavy it is at times.
@@dragondavemk7917 it even hits in the ps2 games and the first grid game.
@@openlyracist8055 Race Driver and Grid will have the same spinout problem? Oh boy, then i will have a "lot of fun" once i get to those.
@@dragondavemk7917 all 3 race driver games have the issue, I've been playing on PC and if you play a car with more than 700bhp you'll spin in the low gears and any car that goes to 1st gear in a turn spins. I'm not lying, every car spins in 1st gear even in race driver 3!!!
@@openlyracist8055 Not saying you are lying at all. I own the Race Driver trilogy and most Grid games but have yet to play them (wanted to finish the PS1 Toca trilogy first) so, i dont know how they are. But with the info you gave here, i will be prepared for it...........and likely mention it in the videos i will do about them in the future.
This game crawled so Dirt 2.0 could run!
I played Toca World Touring Cars to death back in the PS1 days. It was such a great experience in either 1 player or 2 players split screen. I seem to remember 4 players was not so hot, but cool that it was even there. I always preferred the car that was painted like a cow. I really loved the clanking noises when you car was in a bad state. One of my most played PS1 games. To me, this was the best realistic car-racing game on PS1. Other great racing games include Crash Team Racing and Sled Storm. The holy trilogy of fun racing games on PS1.
I will do the whole Crash franchise at some point (also the remakes...but will take a while) and yes, the original CTR is the absolute GOAT of racing on the PS1. I agree with Sled Storm as well (PS1 or PS2 version). I would add Ridge Racer (Type 4), Road Rash, Rollcage, NFS4, Hot Wheels Turbo Racing and a few more.
@@dragondavemk7917 I can't really agree on Sled Storm for PS2. I remember looking forward to it and then loathing it for being crap and too "BIG". The other PS1 games I didn't play much, so I cannot comment 🙂
@@Evilkingus While the PS2 version doesnt hit as hard as the PS1 version, i dont remember it being that bad. But then again its been 15+ years and honestly, maybe i am even confusing it with "Whiteout" (PS2). I would have to play it again to be sure.
While I loved playing the game, especially for the career and the big number of real life tracks, its graphics are boxy and shit! Comparing the cars' and tracks' models to Gran Turismo on the same machine is day and night. The only thing that saves Toca is that it had more opponent cars at the same time in the track (which is related to performance).
Thats why i said at the very end of the video that certain aspects in the Toca trilogy are better than in GT (like the penalty system) but overall the GT duology is better franchise, especially GT2. But i havent tackled GT yet (but will in the future), thus i didnt want to say much more than that.
I will say that the ability to play split screen with a grid of bots is what makes this win over GT for me. It is just so much more fun than head-to-head. Still to this day, I hate that I cannot play multiplayer with bots on GT7 - it's either head-2-head or a full grid of randoms.
I forgot about this, it is 20+ years ago! You are right, that was interesting indeed, I was playing that way with my brother!
I didnt cover the multiplayer at all (never have in any of my videos) because i would only be able to play with myself.................not in that way (maybe). As a result, i dont think i am the right guy to cover MP in the first place even tho its part of the game. I'll admit tho that also as a result of that, i dont much care about MP either. Make of that what you will. I've always prefered SP. However, i can certainly see how a MP like in Toca World would be more fun than any GT MP and why people liked to play it. But then again, the purpose of both franchises despite them being racing sims are quite different from one another.
You have weirdest accent I've ever heard.
Dunno if you already know about it but in 2006 era at TK's safehouse, there is graffiti on a wall that says "Tanner lives"
Yeah i saw that. There is also one near the bed that says "I <3 Tanner". There is also a picture on the fridge from (supposedly) Martin Edmondson......who wasnt involved in Parallel Lines but was in previous games. You might tell me what you think any of these easter eggs mean. I dont think these easter eggs mean that TK and Tanner share the same universe (they might, i dont know). I think they are there to hype people up for the next Driver game which was going to include Tanner and be developed by Martin again (Driver LA Undercover for mobile or Driver San Francisco for PS3/360....not the Wii version of DSF tho), especially considering what happened in the end of Driver 3
Thanxxxs 4 your review very nice this game. Is hidden gem
I never even knew there was a wii version, this is hilarious
Luckily you didnt see my dumbfounded face when i realized that the Wii version wasnt a downgraded PS3 version but rather a completely different game...............that just has the same title and same cover.
nice video, I didn't know there is 2nd driver san francisco, I played the ps3 version
Thanks, mate. I also only played the PS3 version but when i saw that the Wii version wasnt the same thing at (like i initially thought), i had to try it out..............and suprisingly, Wii version can compete with the PS3 version and in certain aspects even surpass it.

Man these developers come up with some of the strangest ideas for games
D3 Publisher has published some of the craziest stuff (that is very japanese) out there, especially on the PS2. I have a lot more from them that i will tackle in the future.
I never played this one! If you play Parallel Lines later I wanna know if it plays like this. I played that and it felt good y'know, and I also played Driver 1 and 3
Currently playing Parallel Lines, which will be the next video. The similarities between 76 and Parallel Lines are all over the place but...............well, i dont want to say too much here. The upcoming video will show whats what.
@@dragondavemk7917Oh nice. I'm just about to buy Parallel Lines because I never played it back then! I have 1, 2 and 3 in my collection right now. LOVED the Driver series when I was young.
Yeah, people forget that not every cop in the land will know about an undercover cop. I did like this a lot growing up, years later I played the PC version which has some minor differences, like music, choosing cars in free roam, map changes, building texture changes, lighting differences. As far as I can tell, all missions are there.
