Above and Beyond - Queensbury Parish Church 2024
The Black Dyke Band would like to record a very special moment that took place recently, during its Summer Proms Concert, in the Holy Trinity Church in Queensbury, Bradford.
Duncan Beckley, who is a Trustee of the band was invited to conduct the magnificent work by Paul Lovatt-Cooper, ‘Above and Beyond’. This work was commissioned by Duncan and dedicated to his teacher and mentor, Peter Kitson, who he first met at the Yorkshire Schools band, over 50 years ago!
Music Director Professor Nicholas Childs commented “I have known Duncan for over 40 years, since we first met in the National Youth Band of Great Britain. Duncan is one of the most successful conductors around, with an incredible record of contest wins. A few years ago, Duncan was awarded the Mortimer Medal for his services to youth bands. This year in the King’s Honours list, he was awarded an MBE for his services to music. We were therefore thrilled and delighted to dedicate this performance to Duncan himself, a man who has always gone ‘Above and Beyond”.
Please see also the video of this remarkable man on the homepage, as he conducts the Black Dyke Band playing this fine piece of music.

The Black Dyke Band would like to pay a special tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on this very sad national day of mourning for her funeral. She was an inspiration to us all and the band had the privilege to perform several times at events she attended. This arrangement of 'God Save The King' was written especially by Gordon Jacobs for her coronation, with a fantastic fanfare to open. T...

Went to see them last week in Wakefield awesome band .can't wait to catch up with them again. Music of the gods so relaxing and entertaining
Absolutely beautiful.
Remberence day song
This is an amazing arrangement of a wonderful hymn. I was honoured to know the great nephew of the composer, Handel Parker, who was himself, George Edward Parker, a great musician
The person who made this arrangement has to be awarded. What a fantastic arrangement🎉
Stunning!
That was McCann, Webster esk. Aroi Richard 🇹🇭
A little heavy.
My favoriet Flugelhorn player !
Halleluja solie deo gloria Amen
Woahhhhhh what a piece of music that was ......brilliant......certainly blows away the cobwebs.
Played with excellence.
Sheer brilliance
Lovely but one thing missing was the bagpipes
Nothing happened
Too fast, lacks the granduer of the original by Ron Goodwin!!
I agree far too fast.
I watched you do this last night at Skipton Town Hall (I have the hat to prove it)... Out of this world 💞
Another great one by the black Dyke Band.
Oh wow , Zoe Lovit on Flugel Horn is she back with Black Dyke?? She is my favorite Flugel Horn player!
I really love these bands . When heard live it's like hearing the happy voice of God ..
God Save the King 🇬🇧
*_You can only get this level of excellence out of the North of England - At it's traditional finest - Fact ..._*
Hard to argue, & I'm a huge Dyke fan, but there are some very strong sounds coming out of The Rhondda! #Cory
You're so wrong it hurts
@@explodingsausage6576 *_Hmm, well that's just your opinion, which accounts for absolutely nothing, so ..._*
@jane---489 Pot kettle you mouthbreathing bint. Way to insult the hundreds of world class bands in the rest of the UK and Europe. Ignorance.
👏
담백하고 균형잡힌 콩나물국^^
Nice and tight. Exactly how I like to hear a Brass Band. Kudos.
Some serious trombone playing there
Proper Norf.
Wow this So cool in here 😮😅❤❤❤
About to use your version at my Dad’s funeral next week, he loved the band and this piece, beautiful 💙
Adam Warburton on assistant principle trombone, now the new top bone at Dyke
Sounded like some of them were still singing Queen. Understandable.
Beautiful
Beautiful
Hey! That's a proper Band.
Matt playing his big fat peddle note at the end.
Beautiful
Superb, brass instruments make such a lovely sound, thank you.
Thank you all !
Thank you!
Arigatou gozaomasu
shame about the family, but still....
Absolutely brilliant music!!
Underful fantastisk solie deo gloria THANKSFULL JESUS Kristus
Who is the arranger?
Sounds like the Sandy Smith arrangement.
Absolutely gorgeous! And the music was nice as well! :)
Love it Miss Conway
This is what it means to be British, working class - proud, emotional, raised with music from the crib and with an ethic of service playing together even when apart.
Bella sinfonia
This tune always gives me goosebumps. though the arrangement is meant to be played with bagpipes it must be because I'm not very much a fan of bagpipes (no offense), I like it better with brass or other orchestra instruments excluding the pipes.
You show in minimum how they shall play. Thank you Jesus Christ. Messias
