I like rescuing old cars, and making them run, perform and look like they should (in my view anyway). I also do the occasional upgrades and repairs on my '87 Buick Grand National, '71 Chevy Nova, and '84 Camaro Z28. Keeping the daily driver fleet going also ends up taking time and space on my channel for better or worse. Check back often for special guest appearances as well! Thanks for watching. -Anthony
Suburban Brake Caliper Sticking/Can't Bleed Air Out of Lines!
In a little over a year of owning this 2011 Chevy Suburban 1500, the repairs have mostly turned into MAJOR DISASTERS! The latest one seemed like a simple job, replace the front brake caliper because it was hanging up dragging and burning the brake pads. Installing the new one was super easy. But that was just the start of the real issue: I cannot bleed the air out of the brake lines! In the end, I finally get it SOLVED. But it wasn't easy!

More setbacks on the 1984 Z28 project. I had to fix the cooling fan again, I got the A/C working, but then stupidly I dented my own door!! You just can't make this stuff up. Now I have to figure out the best way to fix the damage.
The REAL SCOOP on HOT ROD POWER TOUR - Is it worth doing??
มุมมอง 5Kหลายเดือนก่อน
Power Tour has been a bucket list item for me for many years. I finally went for it this year - 2024 - in my 1971 Chevy Nova LS Turbo. Did it live up to the hype and expectations? Would I definitely do it again? What are things to avoid and ways to make it better? I answer these and more questions in this video. Please leave a comment and let me know if you agree, or what your experience was!

Last minute repairs - Spring Isolator Install (Fail) on my 71 Nova
มุมมอง 4942 หลายเดือนก่อน
The last "issue" I have with my 71 Chevy Nova LS Turbo before leaving for the 2024 Hot Rod Power Tour is a very loud rattle/vibration that seems to be coming from the passenger side front spring. My idea is to install a spring "isolator/cushion" to stop the noise. Things did NOT go as planned.

มุมมอง 3193 หลายเดือนก่อน
For over a month I've been thrashing on my 71 Chevy Nova getting it ready to go 2500 miles on the Hot Rod Power Tour. In case it's not going to be ready in time, I have my 87 Buick Grand National, but it also needs some maintenance and repairs for such a long drive. In this video, I show my 9 year-old son how to replace the front brake pads and rotors.

It’s totally normal for Ls. Normal operating temp is 210 degrees they don’t really boil over till about 250*
You should have got the entire t-top weatherstrip kit. Ive also seen, there is an actual factory t-top seal kit, and an aftermarket one.
Is it sold?
I watched this again, one thing I forgot to say, is yes, the parts are getting worse and worse, and most are made in China, and the Chinese ones seem to have poor quality, and the competition that used to be there among parts makers has disappeared, so their is little incentive to outdo a competitor, and -- parts are disappearing. IMO letting lawyers run this country has ruined it. AT Least your reverse bleeder is available now for the left side
It works great, but take this from experience it blocks things you dont want blocked. Spray on bushings works great.
Guy had 65. And every sat he pulled out to street and washed it. This in 73. And by then it was classic blue with white INTERIOR
All that favor the Gn never had a cutlass 😅🙃😭
What a cool car
Sounds healthy Beautiful GTO
I love both because I have two 1966 Olds 442's. and a 1965 Olds 442. I used to own a 1986 cutlass, 1974 and 1976 442 with a 455 engine. On the Buick, I have a 1994 Grand Sport 2 drs and three 1987 buick Grand nationals, all three low mileage so you see I'm a big fan of Buicks and Olds 4-4-2's. Thanks for the film, I thought it was great.
I'd like to know about the fan as well. Last owner of mine wired it to stay on.
F.Y.I. Costco sells a great car seat cushion! Cheers!
Is this a travelogue or problem solver. What rubbish. People are looking for quick fixes. I want my time back.
The GN by far
dude just puts the mf right in, im over here struggling, cant even put the factory one back in wth
I guess I got lucky on this job? I'm usually struggling.
Your definitely not alone. Quality control, and the quality of parts made today is no where near the quality of parts made years ago.
You are not alone! Imagine having to do the fuel pump twice ..I have a 1985 Camaro, so you know! My Tahoe has the same problem with calipers. I had the same stripped bleeder screw hole on a new caliper on my Bravada.
I have put 2 power steering pumps, 2 alternators and 2 air conditioning compressors on my 1990 silverado this summer. Factory parts lasted 34 years and replaceme t parts don't last a month. And I buy new units not rebuilt. Where is the quality control? And parts dealers are content to give you replacement but my time, energy, and missed car shows is aggravating! I feel for you! I guess I drive my new car and sell the old one. No fun anymore.
Having to do everything multiple times really takes the fun out of it. I'm at the point where I think I have to unload a few cars because it's just too much to keep up with.
@@nowherefastgarage DDONT GET RID OF THE CAMARO WHATEVER U DO
Whenever I have a stubborn bleeder sucking in air, I apply synthetic grease around the bleeder threads. If the bleeder is opened too much then it will show many bubbles in the clear line. Today’s China made parts are disgustingly useless.
I did try that to no avail.
How did you do the fuel system
The new setup is Tanks Inc fuel injection tank, their 450 lph in tank pump, 8 AN braided feed line, Aeromotive regulator, 6 an return line. I have a video on how I redid the fuel system on my channel.
Ahhh man, I can feel the torque watching that beauty. Love it!
About to do this same project on the same exact radio. Thanks for doing the leg work and posting the parts list. It helps a ton!
Good luck. On mine, I still had the same issues after installing in the car. I think the Amp chip was bad, even though it probably needed caps replaced anyway.
Same experience . Looks great for a while and then starts fading and cracking
the fuel evaporates! put a little fuel in a cover or small jar leave it out side and check it in 6 or 8 hours it will be gone or gone overnight it evaporates with the alcohol in it i tried a check valve in the fuel line no difference it evaporates!
After all this, it turned out to be the choke was out of adjustment! I never thought it would prevent it from starting, but it did.
Sweet Nova 👍❤️
Awesome..Sound and a Amazing Vette😅…With Real Power🎉
Perhaps you are right when you indicated the effectiveness of 205 additive was not fully compatible with your other additive you already had in the engine. This is what I am also wondering with my 1974 Toyota. My Toyota have minute oil pan gasket leak. I am using 20-50W engine oil with Lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer which keeps my engine noise quiet and other benefits. If I use this 205, it might not work with Lucas, which I might end up like your case. Yes, to do the job right to stop leak, the source of leak, in which my case, is to take off the oil pan, which is also quite difficult to remove it, completely and install new gasket. And as you said, taking my vintage Toyota to some crocked mechanic there is no guarantee that they will do the job correctly and end up spending thousands of dollars which will only frustrates me at the end. If I had a hoist, I can possibly do it myself. I really think if I add the 205 I will not get the full benefit with mixing with Lucas and oil. There is no one on youtube talks about mixing with Lucas and the result. Maybe too much additive added to the engine might not be a good idea as well.
Yes, this is something that many people have suggested, but I'm not sure if there's any validity to this idea. I'm going to have to try it again another time with no other additive.
My '82 Firebird has been a nightmare for sealing.. problem is I live in a country with huge amounts of rain.. the seals hold for about 5 minutes before water starts pouring in
A few months after I installed these seals, I adjusted the tops to fit tighter. They are very tight now, and I am no longer getting any leaks from them. Time will tell. I'm still not convinced it will last very long.
I love those GM midsize coupes very sporty very comfortable very Special I like all of them but I lean toward Grand Prix Cutlass Monte Carlo Regal in that order of course I am V8 all the way I know the Regal is SuperCharged but I don’t care for the V6 that why the Regal is last on my list
Grand Prix is the one G body I haven't owned yet. I like them a lot!
Thank you for the clarification on fan switch. Nice paint bro
Nice paint now. I guess they cleared the whole car. Looks great.
LOL "Typical Nowhere fast garage way of doing things" - You're not alone! You have better success rate than I do. I've been really dissappointed lately
Every job lately has some kind of setback. It’s just the way it goes!
I would like to know how to fix the "tuning" dial. My radio isn't picking up radio stations well, and keeps sqeaking as I try to tune it in.
I'm sorry but I don't know much more than what I did here. I have had the same issue with my radio in my Grand National not picking up stations as good as it used to. Seems to be a thing with the Delco radios from that era.
Hi From France ! do you have a number for the side pipe parts ?( hooker side pipe + vette's pack insert ) i want abolutely an vette's pack insert but its hard to find the exactly same , or if you have the instagramm or facebook from this person would be with pleasure! , i am restoring my 75' survivor , thanks you ! And USA-1 !
Had an '86 6 cyl "Gutless Cutlass". Seafoam green, Brougham model with the velour bench seat in front. God I loved that car. I wish I still had it. It was so easy to drive. Smooth and floated down the road. Great visibility. It just felt so open inside; not cramped like modern cars.Totally comfortable and luxurious feeling. If I still had it, I'd just do an LS swap and tighten up the suspension a bit. Great car.
I had that same gutless 3.8 2 barrel in a 85 and 87 Regal Limit. I echo your sentiments, the inside of those cars are wide open and not cramped and what potholes? Lmao I miss them both.
@@garyfleming4101 A friend of mine had an '84 Regal Limited with the 3.8 (this was in 1988) and it did not run very well. It would stumble and stall and was very short on power if the car was loaded up with passengers. Almost to the point that climbing a hill from a standstill was white knuckle.
@@AlexanderCrump mine ran fine. Just no power. People always give the Olds 307 crap but I always point out the 3.8 two barrel Buick. My dad had a 85 Cutlass Salon with Tops, buckets, and the 307 and while not winning any races they felt so much better in my opinion
@@garyfleming4101 My mom bought a 1982 Delta 88 new and it never ran right. It would stumble and surge, it developed vacuum leaks that caused a rough idle. It frequently would stall out if you floored it from a stop. It dieseled and knocked unless you put premium in it. I had the carburetor cleaned and everything checked many times but it still ran erratically. By contrast, my friends '83 Monte Carlo started and ran flawlessly all the time. It was infuriating. I so wanted my mom to get rid of it and buy a Grand Marquis.
I recently had the same issue...same deal ccleaned the battery cable and it started right up
Wonderful sleeper! Hope your ‘67 Skylark found a good home. That was a nice Buick! Would have liked to own it myself.
Thanks! Yes, the Buick actually found a great home.
I loved my '86 Cutlass Salon I bought used in '87 to replace my '78 Turbo Regal, after the turbo went out for the second time. It was metallic maroon with white pinstripes and T-tops and had the exact same interior as your 442. The only thing I changed was adding a K&N air filter, aluminized dual exhaust, and replaced the wire wheel covers/wheels and whitewall tires with American Racing chrome nugget wheels and Goodyear Eagle ST tires. I would have taken a 442 over the Salon, had I found one. I really wanted a Grand National, but the insurance was killer for a college student. Then the GNX came out...they had one at the Buick dealership in the little town of Greencastle, IN, where I was in school, at DePauw University and became completely obsessed. If I had been a little older, with a job and money, I'd probably still have it today, although I'd miss the T-tops my Cutlass had. I still have pictures of it, though! Of these two, I'd take the GN, since neither have T-tops. I do agree the gauges were way cooler on the Cutlass and never understood why the baddest of the G Body cars had the same granny gauge cluster as every other Buick, with the exception of the turbo boost gauge. The GNX had the best gauge cluster, though, for sure!
I had a cutlass salon also when I was very young- around 19. I only kept it a couple years and sold it to by an IROC. The cutlass was a much better car! I wish the GN came with the GNX dash. I have been hesitant to change anything about my GN dash because it’s a legit low mileage car.
@@nowherefastgarage yeah, no I wouldn’t touch it, for sure!
To me the GN for the win. Damn those Cardinals are loud in your neighborhood 😅
I truly appreciate your 3rd Gen content! You are the only one who actually "teaches!" I learn something that can help me with my 85 everytime I watch!
Thank you! That’s what I’m trying to do. I’m no expert, but I try to pass along what I do to hopefully help someone.
Man - Tell me about it - IT'S ALWAYS SOMETHING WITH THE CAMARO! Mine is definitely the "problem child" of my fleet, but I love it!
Yeah it’s getting ridiculous lately!
I had the same problem with my temp gauge so I glued a very small plastic peg just past the red zone to keep the needle from going too far. worked great. And thanks for this video. I am doing this as well.
I drilled my temp gauge and added a little screw - same concept and it works. Sometimes now it gets stuck at the bottom, but tapping on the lense lets it back up.
any solution? my 67 just encountered this issue today
Yes! It turned out to be corrosion between the positive battery cable and the post on the battery. Cleaned it up, and was good after that! Sometimes it's simple things.
i picked up a 73 ss nova with a bad engine for 50 bucks it had the gauges on the floor factory paint body in good condition so i put in a 396 out of a 68 pu or known as the 402 i got the truck for 85 bucks sold the rest of it for 500 and the 400 tubo for 150 bucks then i got a pro built 400 turbo for 200 bucks from a shop that had 3800 in the trans but his kid sold me the trans for the 200 with all the paper work on it come to find out his dad had the trans sold for 6000 for drag racing mite say he was pissed but not at me . but i sold it cheap because at the time had way to many hot rods
I love low-buck hot rod stories like this. It's not as easy to do these days, but if you are patient and put in the effort, it's still possible!
@@nowherefastgarage i do have a advantage i got 10 acres of rigs that i been collecting for years. i only keep the rust free rigs or just a little rust. plus i use haul a lot of rigs from ranches that were going to be sold. the best deal i got was a half restored 67 ss rs 427 camaro with a 79 chevy short box with the 400/400 turbo with only 35,000 miles on it just needed a new fuel pump and carb cleaned with 15 other rigs
Looks really close to the one I just got lol.
Hey, I realized you won the car at the G Body Classics show. Congrats!! Looks like a great project, especially with the 403. How does it run? I had always thought about doing that swap since the 307 is so weak.
Tony, the ECM controls the fan-on and fan-off temperature. You have to burn the settings onto the 64 pin ecm removable bios chip, which I have done and it works great ! I used TunerPro software and a cheap bios chip burner to copy the settings down, interpret them, reset them and re-burn the chip with new fan on and fan off temp. All the in-block sender does is send the temp to the ECM, and then the ECM decides when the fan comes on or off. Unfortunately, those ecms were programmed from the factory to run at 220, so when the ecm metals degrade a bit the fan/on fan/off starts to very a few degrees. The answer is to force it to run at a little bit lower than 220 (like all cars did previously, and today they do) and you are good forever. I set my fan on to like 188 or 190 instead of 200+ and now my car runs at a cool 190 degrees all the time! Good for the engine too to run cooler. Good for your next year power tour -- sitting in traffic too ! Never mind, maybe 1984 did not use ecm. Not sure. mine is 1992.
Hey Bud. In 1984 the Camaro Z28 HO used a separate fan switch for the electric fan. This is the one in the head. There was also a temperature sensor for the ECM in the water neck, but that was only used to adjust fuel enrichment (I think) when it is cold out. Later years, the ECM controls the fan as you described. I took the ECM and harness completely out of this car when I replaced the distributor with a standalone HEI style. These fan switches are just more cheap junk that don't work right! If anyone knows of one that turns on at a lower temp and actually works, please let me know!
A 1995 s10, I converted the mechanical fan to dual electric fans from a Grand Am. To get the fans to come on and off I bought a dual fan controller from a company called Davies Craig. The controller has 2 separate circuits, relays, and fuses. It also has a led read out and is adjustable. I know you only have 1 fan and the sell single controllers also. Might be something that can help you out. By the way, I miss the 3rd gen camaros... I had 2. I also had 2 2nd gens and a 69 that was so rotted out it fell apart (rear leaf spring came through the trunk at the rear!). I live in Georgia now but I am from Long Island( that explains the rotted out trunk and frame😅)
