Inspiration for Foghorn Leghorn! - Senator Claghorn compilation from The Fred Allen Show, 45 - 49
A rather unorthodox upload. I've had this on the backburner for while and finally had enough time to finish. This compilation does not contain segments from every episode of the show as some were not archived, as far as I know, and some were in unusable quality. Sourced from archive.org
Senator Claghorn was a character from the Allen's Alley segment of The Fred Allen Show. The Fred Allen Show was one of the most popular radio shows in the 45 - 47 season and the Senator Claghorn character was the direct inspiration for the Foghorn Leghorn whos first appearance was in 1946.

This is a live recording from an episode of Fred Allen's Linit Bath Club Revue radio show, recorded on 12-25-1932. Funnily enough, Allen remarked in his autobiography, Treadmill to Oblivion, that the midshow organ song was an idea from a radio executives wife who loved hearing the organ. Allen himself hated it and I can see why as it is an odd choice of music to have for a comedy show. As you m...

If anyone could post the german lyrics I'd be very grateful. I first heard the instrumental version of this in Carl Woitschach's marsch potpourri, Wir Marschieren, and could not find it anywhere on youtube (perhaps its region locked or something), so I figured I'd upload it once I found it. @Crapartstudio Not only that, but between different groups of veterans they would probably meet fairly frequently at different events across the nation. In fact I’m pretty sure Civil War vets were the ones who really started Civil War reenactments as a hobby. The last vet died in 1956, nearly 50 years after this recording! If you look at the Wikipedia article titled “List of last surviving veterans of military insurgencies and wars,” it appears that some Napoleonic/1812 veterans *nearly* made it to 1907. One War of 1812 veteran named Hiram Cronk made it to 1905 at least. There are also various veterans of conflicts of the 1830s and 1840s that made it to the 1910s and 1920s. It’s crazy to think about some of the earliest born people that your grandparents or great grandparents could hypothetically have met.

"I assume it would be 'Frankenmarsch' in German." Because it was dedicated to the Pennälerverbindung Frankonia in Baden-Baden (where Johann Schmuzer owned a music store at the time of its 50th Anniversary celebration...) Frankonia Marsch is indeed the correct name in German.

Lyrics (which show up from 1:04 - 1:42) - Transcription partly based on Frank Sinatra's version: "Looking at the world through rose-colored glasses, everything is rosy now. Looking at the world and everything that passes, (seems of rosy hue) somehow. Why do I (feel so spry, don't wink your eye) [You] need'nt guess, I'll confess, (a certain someone just said yes.) In a Bungalow, all covered with roses, I will settle down, I (vow) That's why I'm looking at the world through rose-colored glasses, and everything is rosy now."
