Everyone has a different experinces. So why pay attention to anyones else. ahould have added disclaimer. “all actors in video are fictional”.
Hi Will, What are u most proud of achieving from when u first arrived there? And what things have u learnt about yourself that you are most proud of?
you have such a gift for storytelling and world building, this video spoke directly to me as another oldest child who recently decided to move back to korea :,) i hope we can both find happiness and fulfillment on our own paths~
😢 I can’t stand toxicity. The most ironic thing Koreans do is bring their toxic culture into abroad. Let me explain I struggled to make friends with Koreans even out of Korea. I’m Korean but lived all my life in America culture. imagine how hard it must have been for me to be friends with my own fellow native Koreans when they tried to force me to be more Korean by being toxic?!?! Saying “ I’m older than you so you better listen to what I say. Or adults are always right when they’re wrong sometimes.” I’m sorry but I don’t like toxic culture in any countries. I’m not adapted that way and for my native Korean people to forcefully try to brainwash me is sicken to the upmost extent that now I just don’t want to make friends anymore. I got tired of it since I’ve experienced same loop hole of toxicity for 2 decades. It’s ridiculous! All I know is, I’m outcast from my own people for very long time. I refused myself to become toxic when it’s wrong. Respect comes in all ages. Mannerisms comes in all ages. And it’s sad for 90% of Korean people to think toxicity is way of making friendship and living in the social but deep down they’re suffering. And new level of entitlement gotten me fed up! I got so mad at these new generation Korean people thinking they’re entitled for everything. And sometimes, they can’t take no as an answer. I said no when I feel like I can’t take responsibility and ended up getting backlashes. Not only that, people in the comments, tell me what’s more entitlement when one Korean person demands me to teach them something yet they want more from me? “ More” I meant say that person only manipulated me to thinking they’re my friend but whole purpose was to use me for their benefit such as taking piano lessons from me. I have no problem doing that but it gets worse. Now, they want me to become their errands + friendship + treating them like senpais. What the actual f***?!?! And Korean toxic mothers and Korean parents takes whole new level of toxicity and entitlement. I’ve met too many of these people, I’m sick and tired of this BS. They want me to become their minion puppet for their selfish needs and it’s everything above. They want everything! From sister, friendship, babysitter, teacher, musician and so much more! I have news for these people, 🤬 you’re too selfish and ego! I’m like you can’t have everything! That’s not how society works and especially when it comes to relationships. I show my true colors the moment Koreans try to crossed the red line. I don’t care if I come out rude, disrespectful in Korean standards. I’m protecting myself from anymore toxicity and losing my precious time because of them.
Koreans go abroad saying they don't like Korea, but it is undeniably the Koreans themselves who make Korean society what it is.
The boys are back!
Thanks for the video, I watched the whole episode As someone who has only spent 1 semester abroad in Korea, I could still relate to a lot of your insights. I'm still contemplating about going back every now and then, even though at the end of my semester I was desperate to go back home. But the grass is always greener somewhere else...
@@Smileynathi thank you for watching the video! Just means you had a great semester abroad if you’re contemplating on going back haha
I remember watching some of your TikToks couple of years back and thought they were pretty interesting and seeing this video randomly pop up in my recommendations was a nice surprise. As someone who also taught English in Daegu for 6 years and have similar backgrounds this really resonated with me. I ended up taking a break for 6 months after and recently moved to Seoul for grad school. I’m still debating whether I made the right choice or not but it was nice hearing that people in similar situations have all the same worries and I’m not the only one dealing with this. Great podcast👏🏽
@@nus856 haha covid times was when I was trying to TikTok a lot but not anymore. Hope you’re having a good time in Seoul! Thanks for watching
the long awaited new episode
Thanks for the patience haha
We're so back
Always happy to hop back on and create this kind of content!
I hope you find yourself in a better place now three years later... As a former ESL teacher who used to teach people of many different nationalities, I knew I never ever wanted to live in S. Korea based on how most of my Korean students were. I've lived and travelled to a lot of countries already. But Korea will never be one of them. I wouldn't mind *maybe* (big maybe) visiting Japan, but it's also not a must for me. That's also another country I would never live in, based on experiences I've had with students from Japan. There are so many amazing countries and people in the world. Life is too short to spend any amount of time in a place you don't feel happy, welcome, at home or comfortable. As a person with dark skin, this rules out the vast majority of Asian countries for me, even though my ancestors' roots are in an Asian country. I think it's really important to go where you resonate with the culture and people overall, rather than going where you might be enthused by *some* superficial aspects of the culture. You have to feel at home with most of the culture and people, particularly the major aspects of them, rather than just with a few things.
Don´t feel bad about it being a foreign, even south koreans are suffering for rejection being losers in these high developed society, but its a soulless society, very robotic and coldness. That´s why many younger SK commit suicide every year and the number of HIKIKOMORIS (Phenomemon from Japan) is rising up in SK, right now we have more than 500K isolated and lonely people. FEEL lonely in South Korea is the most common feeling for anyone who don´t speak korean fluently and even with fluency you will be treated as foreign forever.
Hey I was just searching for a day in the life in Anson video and your popped up. Watched it… Hope your doing well and just wanted to send you positive vibes
It’s like dating all fun at the beginning if it’s not working out just break up and move on…or you can cheat with your ex home country 😂
I agree , Korea is not for everyone. Very toxic work environment and they abuse foreigners.. one problem is solved and you get another problem with a problem
Come to Melbourne Australia, we would love to have you here.
What happened to wholesome homogeneous relationships? So many out here with yellow fever.
heyyy hope you are doing well now, hope you are satisfied with yourself and I hope you're shining in your own way
Cut your losses.
Honestly i'm just moving there cause their university accepted me and the universities in my hometown didn't. Soo yeah. ☠
Thank you So informative
Hey Will! Your videos hit so close to home for me, I love the realness and the narrative you portray. My takes on why South Korea has turned into a very toxic country: 1. Economy and society way out of sync: It is much easier to absorb net technology and come up with new things than to change one's attitude and behavior. While South Korea can boast about its infrastructure and manufacturing prowess, it cannot boast the same about its dog-eat-dog school and workplace environments. In short, South Korean attitude and behavior have changed very little from the 1970s and this will hold back South Korea. (By contrast, Europe and North America had lot more time to sort things out when they were industrializing. By contrast, industrialization in Asian countries took place under much shorter span of time, thus much greater extent of culture shock.) 2. Parenting and education: South Korean kids are not taught how to think for themselves. Instead. they are taught to do whatever they are told. Furthermore, these kids are also not taught the need to draw lines between individuals, even between friends and family members. Consequently, this helps to contribute to bullying both in person and online. Meanwhile, this is not helped by South Korea's ridiculously obsessive standardized tests. These tests have questions with multiple-choice answers. Because these kids are groomed to prepare for these tests from early, they are taught a very skewed view of the outside world. Multiple-choice means there is a correct answer. However, real-life problems do not present themselves as a set of multiple-choice questions. In other words, South Korean kids are not raised and educated to be able to cope with the sheer complexity of the outside world. 3. Fancy packaging, substandard contents: This is how I would describe South Korean society in four words. My hope is South Koreans do not delude themselves with K-pop, Samsung, and other cultural and industrial exports. They are nothing but fancy packaging. These things might give them an impression that South Korea has joined the ranks and files of advanced industrial countries. If so, then they are sadly mistaken. (Go back to #1.) Substandard contents? South Korea's pension system is absurdly weak even when compared to the US Social Security, while the US Social Security is considered rather weak compared to several rich European countries. Worst fertility rate in the world. Has among the highest teen and elderly suicide rates in the OECD. Has among the world elderly poverty rate in the OECD. 4. Last, but not the least, South Koreans better toss its hierarchical and male-centric attitudes down the toilet. These attitudes are vestiges of pre-industrial agarian society. However, the very same attitude is incompatible with industrial technological society. I should also point out that the age-old bias in favor of having boys over girls is as stupid as one can get. Someone has even done a research over whether having male children over female children is more beneficial for parents. It turned out that daughters are more likely to look after their parents even after getting married, while sons, once married, not so much.
look how good gyno-centricism is working for the West.. i think Korea should just work on being less vane and have more Korean kids. Vanity and materialism has made SK the way it is.
Hopefully everything is getting better for you in Korea. I definitely experienced the stress and feelings you mentioned in your other video. These videos are helpful for those considering to move to Korea. Thank you.
This is absolutely adorable. Especially the Hmong speaking part.

How good was your Korean at the time?
What gyms/facilities do you play at? I am studying abroad in Seoul this August and I want to continue playing. It would also be cool to maybe take a class to get better too. So where exactly do you play/practice and do you have recommendations for open gyms to play at? Thanks, love your videos ❤

Love listening to these when drawing. The topic of confrontataion was def a great one to hear. I agree with Mike. A lot of ppl need to be checked. Myself included. imo It's those types of conversations that help a relationship grow or the oppisite and either way, things are learnt from it.
Thanks for putting us on while drawing! Yeah sometimes people late afraid of confrontation but it’s if done correctly it can be so healthy for any relationship
Super chill vibes
Yes sir 🤙
Love your videos! Real conversations! Thoughtful! Thank you. Do more!
Thank you!! Will work on making more 🫡
Holy shit! Your video was garbage. "Only people who hate themselves move abroad" < fixed the title for you
In Korea, they will never say Hello. Everyone is cold-blooded there People will talk shit about you if you stand out somehow anyhow in the crowd. They are quick to be judgmental. They will hate on you for speaking English or "trying" to speak English. They feel that speaking English is showing off in public. One obstacles kids have is that they have a hard time excelling in English because they will get bullied or ridiculed for practicing English with their friends. Koreans will try to take any advantage if you show kindness to them. They will view themselves as superior and you as inferior.
very nice video, and i think this fits many moving stories, not only for korea :)
I'm Lee Hwaㅣang from Haeun Elementary School I miss you so much, Will ly teacher Do you remember me? If you remember, please leave a comment haha😄
Hellloooo 하랑~ I miss you tooo! I hope you are doing well 😁😁
South Korea is one the best places to go on vacation for 2 weeks. But it's one of the worst places to live because of the sexism, racism, ageism, binge drinking, patriarchal, insecurity, avaricious, and dysfunctional sociality in the world. Also if you have emotional and mental issues in your home country, what makes you think that will all go away? I hear Korean's say all the time "I would give my left arm to live in the US with a good paying job". Oh and I left out way way way over-worked from the list above.
Live the life you want and what makes you happy. Just make sure you have enough money for retirement.
You can see Korea is a people full of anxiety...depression. and low self esteem.pray for the spirit of depression and low self worth over the nation. They place emphasis on petty things 5that does not matter in this world... even the men wears makeup
A lot of Asian countries don't have the same attitude towards "mental health awareness" as others. Therapy and mental problems are fairly Western phenomena. Problems exist everywhere in the world, and it's probably not the healthiest approach to ignore them, and not to believe in therapy. But it is what it is. Also, a lot of Asian countries have what they call a "face culture". Admitting to weaknesses, problems and wrongdoings can in some instances make them feel like they are losing face. In the West, we save face by holding ourselves accountable and admitting to our own shortcomings.
환상에 나라로 오세요~ HaHaHa😂
