Ernie Balls 9's v Rotosound 9's Shootout
I have tried Rotosound Ultramag 9's on my Strat. Just for S**** & Giggles I have made a conparison Vid. I have used Super Slinky 9's for years and felt like a change. I quite like the Rotosound Ultramags. I will use them for a while to see how I get on. I would be interested in the opinion of anyone who sees this.
Now it's up I have realized that you can hear my neighbours new puppy winging on the "intro". He is OK, just being a puppy.

Karnival Knowledge at Bagley Social Club, ft' Bob Hands. Bob and I have known each other for more years than either of us care to remember. It was great to see him and his Good Lady once more. "VARIAC" (UK 240v) Cheap socket repair/replace. Ship spoiled for a hap'th of tar.
มุมมอง 613 ปีที่แล้ว
All "Variacs" are not born equal. If, like me, you are on a tight budget then you might be tempted to a cheap far eastern variac. I am aware that "Variac" is actually a trade name for this type of device. Like all vacuum cleaners are "Hoover". So you Hoover the carpet even with a Dyson etc. Therefore all agjustable transformers are variacs. The plug socket failed on mine and rather than send it...
Engl Thunder 50. D.O.A.

I bought this Engl Thunder 50 all valve combo "spares or repair" on e-Bay. Broken 5881 power valve and a duff tone pot.I left the video "as is" to show the struggles of the amature bodger. Not only in amp repair but in videoing stuff. Don't do this at home. The voltages in valve amps can exceed 500v. Even when unplugged, via the capacitors, it can still kill you. Not a tuition video. I don't kn...

Thank you, for such a pleasant demonstration
I have two of these and they are great little vices. I got lucky when these first came onto the market and there is virtually no slop in the guides .... perhaps the standards were a bit higher when they started out ?.
Nonsense, you're great at reviews! Your thoughts and insights are much appreciated 😁
I'm repairing a vice just like this. I believe somebody broke part of the screw end off and chucked it outside. Very neat little device.
Thank you for the review. Excellent.
That's a pedal sensor
I had a very similar strange thing . S60 d5 . Central locking, interior lights and radio were all playing up . Changed the radio which in turn sorted out the 2 other faults .
I’ve watched about 10 videos “reviewing” this thing now, and this is the best one by far. No silly faces in the thumbnail, no breathless hype, just the facts and a dash of personality. Well done.
Just bought one in 2024. Perfect for my purposes, and the jaws meet perfectly. Had to put a little WD-40 on the ball to encourage it to move freely but apparently it frees up after a bit of use.
Too much whispering and moaning .. hard to listen to
I bought this vise to use as a recurve bow vise. The vise is very impressive and I highly recommend it. Compact, strong, well built. Perfect for my needs. It's a much stronger vise than you might think but it does have it's limits.
I've had one of these for about 20 years. No matter what I plug into it - acoustic guitar, ukulele, whatever - always sounds great. Had the reverb stop working some years ago and had a local tech fix it.
How much did that end up costing? I’m looking at getting one but the seller says reverb doesn’t work.
@@cartoonified1084 I think I paid around $400 but that was 20 years ago
$400 to get it fixed?!
@@cartoonified1084 No - I paid about &400 new.
@@misterstratocaster oh right. How much was it to do the repair?
Thank's, that was helpful. 🙏Peace.
Where has this been all my life
It’s sounds phenomenal in overdrive and distorted
Yes, sorry I sold it.
Just purchased this in an amp head.
here in new York the junk yards are loaded with these cars/parts. like 20-25 cars to pull parts off at any point .. used price is $7 ..take less than a minute to remove these things. just my 2 cents..
Remember, you takethe broken one off a junker and put it on your nice street legal Volvo. Oh dear! Same as before...
Have one $60 Australian, very handy tool. Once you buy it you will all ways find a use for it. Cheers from Tasmania
I purchased a similar "vise grip" pliers from the local Walmart here in the states, and made a fret press close to your idea. Not as "professional" as your, but works well. The pliers ran me about $6.50 American. I made different cauls out of aluminum which work and cost about $3 to make. I found I didn't have to pay close to $100 American for a tool I could make with small adaptations for less than $10. Thanks for the idea. If I had a milling machine I could have made a fancier looking one I'm sure, but alas I had to use the tools I had. If you're into restoration or repair of stringed and fretted musical instruments you have to learn to use the old gray matter to save time and $$$$$.
Hi, I've realized that I've never gotten back to you. I bought this vice and it's the perfect fit for someone who doesn't have a dedicated crafting space. The flexibility is amazing. Thank you!
Thank you ! Now I´ve got a good impression of this tool !
A cool trick for that is to cut the snap ins off and the bend a piece of bus wire around either end of the four pins and flood it with solder. Then move your iron back and forth and it will drop right out. Then you only have to deal with heating the snap ins up and pulling them out.
Literally just got one of these tools from elmers nice product seems a little flimsy though either way it works well and i like it also the beer pump thing your thinking of is called an arbor press but great review sir i liked it!
Amazing review! Thank you - going to buy it!
You give me very good tips its works. Thanks I'm from Canada 🇨🇦 .Canadian trucker
This is an alternative to Panavise products.
Nice video mate. I really like the sound of the ultramags
I did the exact same thing. Replace the reverb tank and it is barely working. I was wondering if you ever found the problem other than the tank? Thank you for all that you did in the first two videos and I thank you in advance for any information.
So what was the final outcome?
Thanks for that. One has come up for sale near me, so now I know what to expect.
I have the more recent AS50D. The difference is that the reverb is digital. I mostly use outboard reverb anyway. The chorus was surprisingly good, but it stopped working after about 50 hours. (Edit: that's 50 hours of amplifier use. The chorus had done far fewer hours.) Another fault was the original on/off switch. It worked fine, but you had to rock it a bit to be sure. I bought one for vocals mostly. The sound is big and rich.
i think you just saved my car from going thank you so much
Hi , I wonder the brake pressure sensor located Inside ABS module , I disconnect this one it give a code brake pedal sensor
i have this amp and run a 12au7 and its very tame and bluesy. It pulls the teeth without adversly affecting the amp. also changed the volume pot to a linear taper which gives it a friendlier sweeping range.
I bought one recently and started building it on Friday. Unfortunately mine is die cut.
I broke the connector. any idea how to find the connector part?
I am sorry, I do not know where.
Thank you for this. I noticed years ago that when this sensor died, transmission shifted hard between two and three or between three and four and displayed 'Engine System Service Required', and cruise control did not work. Transmission and cruise control are somehow connected to this sensor.
Good review, I ordered one!
Did you manage to sort the strength of the reverb out ? I’ve got the same amp and reverb doesn’t work .
I feel like this video was part of a process in which two old chaps are working their way through this new internet thing :D I hope Bob now knows what's what when it comes to uploading videos!
You could be correct, Fred.
1:51 Hearing that from a gentleman that has probably used his fair share of vises stirs confidence in my buying decision. I always prefer the opinion of someone with decades of experience over a channel with thousands of subscribers.
Excellent review. Greetings from Chile!
Hi Juan. Thank you.
You were getting my like after you said ad-vice but i gave three after you said that's art isnt it? worth 100,000. haha great review If only I wasn't getting socks again this Christmas.
honest review muchly appreciated mate
Did you fix the beast? On pins here...
Hi, Yes. Bad connection in the connector cable between the tank and the PC board.
@@biggestgerbil Thanks. Was the reverb improved?
Thanks for your straightforward review, appreciate it. Helped to see it as it is and convince me to get one.
Terrible audio.
Yes, but good quality picture. LOL
For too long talk you should show how to use it
OK but not for a few weeks.
you squeeze the handles together mate.
thank you.
You're welcome
Is the quality of this amp's construction good in your opinion? Worth to buy one?
Yes, one of my favorite amps. This is my second Thunder 50. The first one had reverb, this one does not. Engl no longer produce this model. I don't know where you are located but in the UK these go for about £350 in good condition. Almost all amps are on printed circuit boards these days. Nothing wrong with that constriction and it helps to keep the price down. This particular example has had a very hard life. I am pleased to have rescued it.
@@biggestgerbil Thank you for the answer!
