Here’s the question I want people to ask these constitutional professors: why should we bother with new constitutional amendments if a corrupt Supreme Court can just ignore them for 100yrs like the 14th and 15th? Lessing also basically concedes the point early in the talk. If the democratically minded people are not in power, no law can overcome that.

Good piece of work. You have clearly explained the corruption in procurement process. The 3 gear model rightfully put it clear how the corruption networks work. Its a sad story for the developing nations, meaningful development will never be attained as long as these networks remain strong. Political will is very much significant for development that benefits all citizens.

I feel proud to be a part of the research. The findings amazed me. The beauty of the trekking is in danger. People who are dependent economically with tourists or trekkers is in loss in their business. I agree with Mike that road transport can be use in emergency medical situations, transporting goods and for locals. For tourists and trekkers local government or authorities should implement some law that except emergency the road transport should be prohibited.

Thanks for your interesting perspectives. I would add that --notwithstanding the negative effects on certain tourism providers-- constuction and maintenance of roads has also contributed in many areas of the country to deterioration related to health (e.g. respiratory illnesses, worksite accidents), social issues (prostitution; increase in heterogeneity of newly incoming groups) and agriculture (degraded lands, landsides etc.). I note all this while acknowledging that it is virtually impossible to halt road development; however, there could be rules, regulations and laws put in place to mandate involvement of locals in the planning of roads and assurance of adequate compensation to displaced locals.

Thank you for your comment. It's a serious and complicated topic that is difficult to answer quickly. I am preparing a detailed publication on the subject. Of course you are right on the points raised. Even during this short presentation, I mentioned agriculture, which suffers from transport because it is more difficult to sell crops (cheaper agricultural production is at lower altitudes and the road makes it possible to transport and distribute them). Thank you again for your comment! Michal Apollo

Wow. It is New Year's Eve (well, now day) and while sitting around my place tipsy I thought "I wonder what Lawrence Lessig has been up to this past year". I cannot believe that discussions such as this are not more common or open, this is very thoroughly thought through and I enjoyed getting the chance to listen in. The fact that, at this moment, less than 100 people have watched it is sad. I hope that more of my fellow Americans gain the capacity to explore perspectives like this, even if they disagree with its intention. Wave to you from Purdue University! (Sort of...) Some of us all across the nation are thinking about things like this with you. Please keep sharing videos Larry! You're awesome!

Many countries in the world, including the most developed ones, are constitutional monarchies. i.e. England/UK, Denmark,, Sweden, Australia, Canada, Nederlands, Luxembourg, Lichtenstein, etc. In those countries the Regent would be ultimately responsible for kleptocracy, I don't even know how to write this sentence, lol, because that is the reason there is 'theft' or corruption to begin with. They are in fact the winners of the klepto game, and all their connections and network IS the kleptocracy, and they essentially control enough to call themselves King. And they ALL owe money to the Rothschilds, that's why war in Europe stopped after 1000 years. The democratic governments of the Republics, are simply administrations for the people to stay organized. They own no land, very important, they own only stuff on the land. The kleptos own everything, hence the term kleptocracy. Just like ancient Rome, a senate and a Caesar. An empire that owns a republic. It hasn't changed in 2000 years, their grip is in fact tighter than ever. Communism is the movement of the people to overcome this shadow rule, or literal slavery. But, as we know, the system doesn't matter. Putin doesn't care about communism or capitalism, he knows how to make billions in any climate. He is probably tasked with keeping Russians poor, so the people never get control again. It's all about power. for a select few families, and those who would depose them. There are plenty of people in the rung just below them, that have no thirst for power, so do not seek it, they just keep making money. They own the countries which are havens, they own the bank. They either are, or are in bed with, the leaderships. It is a constant game of cat and mouse between the monarchies and the people's gov't, to keep their money hidden. That's why the only way to stop it, is Revolution. Wipe the ledger clean, people rule themselves. But it is just nature, there will be people in that new world who will be smarter, and more devious, at getting more resources than others, and eventually take control of the weak. And that's what religions are for. They don't get power because they have money. They get money, and keep it, because they have power..... Religions kill that thirst for power, if it is participated in with a certain perspective. A perspective of fearing God. That's how they keep the people complacent, they run religion. That's why they eventually want to be called, and think of their self as God. It's a cult, the world. The world is a map of just a few cults. The Cult of the Black Sun to be specific, is the West. Judeo-Christian. Islam were of this cloth, but their culture is the result of an Eastern power family, writing a story, and installing it in local cultures, sooo starting a new cult. They did this for the sole purpose of disrupting the West, The Cult of the Sun, from within. That is the fight still going on today. As they did 700 yrs earlier with Jesus of Nazareth. Muslims and Christians are zombified cult members of the Jewish community, in Judea, which themselves, was the original population source of a group out of Egypt called the Israelites. Is-Ra-El Isis and Ra are God. Ra is the God of the Sun. They were the original smart people who built Egypt, and their knowledge rubbed off on servants and people around them, who started churches, cults, to gain followers with their knew knowledge, and then left Egypt, some exiled, to find their own land on which to found their own nation. The Israelites settled in Canaan, and became known as the Phoenicians, who everyone knows about. The wars of the dark ages up to the 19th century I think pretty much convey all this, clearly. Why the story changes with the world wars I have no idea. But they both were just further amalgamations of families and wealth, leaving us with just a few. The same bloodlines since antiquity. And the fight between East and West is still coming. People are not equal. Regardless of race, some are more intelligent, much more, than the rest. The world is designed by a very small percentage of human minds, the rest just coast on the wave, and are easy fodder for those who are among that small group, and also have no moral fiber. Those who do seek, try, are moral, get their morality from the God they are taught about, but their controllers follow a different God, and a different set of rules. The 'one true God', monotheism, that gives them the power to rule. They are not insane, they are hyper intelligent apes. Intelligence spreads out from the source, but chromosomes spread faster, it's science, you have to end up with a dumb mass of populated subjects. The only revolution that can elevate man is one to Truth. Truth is righteous in all things, in all matters. But, it's true nature is out of reach for the understanding of 99.999% of the population. So, Imho, I think it will be a while until that happens.... In the meantime though, lol, I have been advocating for anti-corruption law and development and study, for over 20 years as the most important priority facing any citizen, or indeed, any person. I have always advocated for abolishing political parties, and representatives being independent and unfunded, and able to be removed by the electorate easily at it's will., without a new election. They simply should not be representing more people than they can talk to. That means fighting corruption includes the creation of smaller constituencies, town halls, block meetings. Every street elects a rep, every neighborhood elects a rep from the street reps, those reps choose an alderman, and you have the same size constituencies again, to administer as we do now. But, trust, engagement are a big part of bringing Truth to every mind. Good luck, YGJP! ... boy, that's cumbersome to say, isn't it, lol Peace

Profit maximization will happen. Yes it will. It is not the best strategy for the company. FOR THE COMPANY or the corporation. We cannot count on the company logic and the corporation operating in its long term best interest. Who is the company? Who? What? The company is everyone in it and no one at all really. Do we forget the lessons of 2008? The Wallstreet banksters running those firms and rating agencies knew things were going to go down in flames.....but they kept on keeping on. They were making a killing. They knew there was fraud, that they were perpetrating frauds, and surely they knew that would be bad for the business going forward. It would be bad for the BANKS, but they would be fine. They were sure they could find a seat when the music stopped, They could get themselves and their personal fortunes out virtually unscathed. Were they wrong? Who was sent to jail? Whose personal fortunes, estates, Lamborghini's, yachts, etc....were taken as ill-gotten gains? Individual people will see a sinking ship and make plans to launch into a new career or company. You tell the bosses how harmful what they are doing to the company is and they ignore you, downplay it, tell you to shut up...... I've seen it. Not on Wallstreeet, but in a company I worked for. The new owners knew better than those who had worked for the company long before they had purchased it. We suggested, we begged, we pleaded, we told and then people just started leaving. Less than one year later they were out of business. When you make it to the top you just know you know more than the lowly workers. Of course you do, and you have a fat compensation package to prove your better than they are. In fact, you're better than they are at everything. If you weren't you wouldn't have made it that far and they would have, right? Of course, not all CEOs and high level management think this way, but it doesn't take many to take down a company. Maybe the executives see the company is in a rough spot and goes into maximization mode to "just see us through this rough patch," but once its over they think that revenue looks too good and now there are all their bonuses to consider and besides they are near retirement,so why not go for broke? Afterall, greed is good. That's what makes capitalism so great! You can not assume, nor count on the operational managers of these firms to operate as the entire company or as a rational company would. There is no singular psyche or logic of a firm. A corporation, firm, company, or other capitalist entity is a big collection of many different, often conflicting and illogical motivating factors. If you're socking away millions a year, what does it matter if the company goes down? You'll be fine. Who cares if the company isn't theirs? You'll find other things to do. You'll still have a home and food to eat.

The message is beautiful and the call to action is sincere. Nader's integrity is beyond question, a life of dedication to the public interest writ large. But I have a lingering suspicion, it is far too late in the day for this culture, politically and in terms of a generation willing and able to be roused to action. The problem is as simple as the smart phone in practically everyone's pocket, a device perfectly suited to keeping people preoccupied with private matters, meaningless consumption, the promulgation of fashionable diversions, selfish validation. The telephone, the television news broadcast, even public libraries once served as focal points and common forms of communication available to everyone, also occasional and largely anonymous resources representing, importantly, the common property of a democracy of ideas, unregulated, and outside the monitoring or interests of commercial, corporate entities. All of these personal freedoms, along with any sovereignty of the autonomous, self-directed interests of the citizen, is long gone. The idea itself has vanished; every aspect of the daily world of work, family, leisure and creative possibility has been completely eradicated from the sphere of normal or productive expectation. In an environment of incessant anxieties and constant over-stimulation, the very meaning of privacy or time spent in solitude is synonymous with antisocial behavior, perhaps sociopathology itself. An artificial culture predicated on pseudonymous labels and desperate connections via technology results in narrow-mindedness of purpose, physical separation, and sporadic and unpredictable failures of self-motivating behavior directed at defining or even recognizing common cause. Social media becomes a trademark for shifting blame or moral failure to the "other", makes one blind to personal responsibility, engenders a desire for demonizing contrary identities, groups, or public factions. Even the vocabulary changes, preferring obscurity or undue complexity over pertinence, economy, meaning: the simple appearance of something disagreeable becomes a case of "bad optics"; one is is no longer upset with the child's unruly behavior but is suddenly preoccupied with what has become "concerning"'; life no longer consists of situations deemed mere threats, given that they are taken to be "existential" threats to boot. We are, to not unduly polish the silver, in deep shit.

I've seen articles debunking this and claiming that this is US backed propaganda . the argument was pretty convincing that this is all a lie to back the proxy war campaign the US is pushing . Any follow up on this report to substantiate it's claims ?
