Summit V1 - Test Launch 2
Just 3 weeks after the initial launch failure I was back at the site and ready for another attempt. Unfortunately this was yet another failure. Sorry it took so long to get this video out, I’ve been crazy busy lately! Next launch in 2 weeks?

Summit V1 First Launch Attempt - Motor Anomaly Fire
มุมมอง 1.7K3 ปีที่แล้ว
After 364 days of design, development and testing, it was finally time to launch Summit V1. An array of problems caused chaos on the day, leading to a fire breaking out on the launch pad and quickly spreading to the lower rocket. Luckily, I had a fire extinguisher close by and was quick to put out the fire before it did more damage! I will be repairing the damage and fixing the problems as fast...

Launch Pad Overview // Overkill TVC Model Rocket Launch Pad
มุมมอง 3.4K3 ปีที่แล้ว
I finally made the video! After many delays the launch pad video is finally here. In this video I explain what the pad includes and how it does it. I also show some footage of it’s construction and show a demo of a countdown sequence in action. TVC Static Fire - Aerotech F14 Composite
มุมมอง 1.1K3 ปีที่แล้ว
The third iteration of the thrust vectoring mount was verified with this static fire test. An Aerotech F14 composite motor from the 90’s was ignited to test the strength of the new mount, the mount actuated approximately 5 degrees in each direction on both the X and Y axis. This is actually the first time I have ever seen a model rocket motor ignite, so it was a pretty awesome moment! Social Me...
Parachute Deployment Tests - Model Rocket Piston Ejection System
มุมมอง 5K3 ปีที่แล้ว
To test parachute deployment and gain experience with black powder, a test stand was made, and a range of tests were completed. I started with a tiny amount of black powder, and slowly increased until I got the right results. These tests also verified that my wireless controller and test stand work securely and effectively, paving the way for a static fire very soon! Social Media: Twitter: twit...
Overkill Model Rocket Launch Controller - Project Summit 2020
มุมมอง 15K4 ปีที่แล้ว
As highly requested by many people here is an in-depth video explaining the entire launch controller. How it works, what everything does and why I did it. Once the launch pad is done there will be an in-depth video on that and a demo video of all the systems working together! The launch pad is well underway however is likely still at least a month off. I am also working on more short videos abo...

Arduino Model Rocket Active Stabilisation - Project Summit TVC Update
มุมมอง 15K4 ปีที่แล้ว
This is the second prototype of my TVC system which is designed to actively stabilise my rocket during powered ascent. It is the first working version, although it certainly requires a lot of tuning to perfect it. I attempted to up my TH-cam game and make a better quality video, please give me any feedback in the comments below so I can make my videos better and better. Links Thingiverse: www.t...
Prototype Rocket Flight Computer // Project Summit Update #2
มุมมอง 4K4 ปีที่แล้ว
I planned on making a time-lapse of me making the computer although I had some camera problems, so I lost heaps of the footage. Instead here is a video of me explaining what I’ve done and how everything works. I can assure you that as I get further into the project the videos will get far more interesting, I am just trying to give brief updates of what I am working on. I will have videos coming...
Introducing Project Summit // An Advanced Model Rocket!
มุมมอง 3.8K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Introducing Project Summit! An advanced model rocket featuring thrust vector control, a flight computer, a parachute ejection system, landing legs and much more to be announced. I have been working on this project for three months now and multiple people have said that I should document it here on TH-cam, so I am! I will film everything I do and hopefully post videos multiple times a month. On ...

Nice setup! You could have saved a lot of space and used an electric linear actuator it would also make the action a lot smoother when opening! Keep up the great work!

Hi, I'm interested in developing a similar system and had a couple questions. Is your design for a captive piston that is pushed forward by the homemade ejection charge? If so, is there any way of releasing the pressure behind the piston if the charge is too heavy? Or is the piston undersized to let some gas pass around the piston? My thinking is to have the piston travel a fixed distance, stopping part way outside the body tube, letting gas out of radial vents once clear of the body tube. From your experience, is this worth trying?

This is awesome. I tried building an arduino powered rocket 2 years ago, and tried using canard fins as a way to guide the rocket. Tvc model rockets were a reach for me because I didnt have a printer at the time. Now Im just continuing my canard project, but I will eventually transition to tvc research

Have you already considered multi factor authentication?... No, seriously, the word overkill describes it very well. You're only launching a model rocket, not an orbit-capable 300 ton rocket with a 0.5 billion payload. Make it simple and use your smartphone together with a Bluetooth module to launch it. I'm thinking about an elderly couple walking through the park and seeing you with the rocket and thinking: I need to get my computer so I can hack this rocket and ruin that man's day. ;-)

    • @AdmiralBob
      @AdmiralBob 2 ปีที่แล้ว

He already has multi-factor auth with the key and PIN. Something you have and something you know. And smartphones do not have satisfying switches so that's why you don't do that.
