My mom would simply be grateful that I even cooked

Someone's incredibly immature. My mother taught me how to cook from a very young age, around 6. And when I started improving her dishes a little here and there, you know what she did? She complimented me and started making it that way too. Now we teach other our new methods we come up with, and both people bond and grow as cooks. Its wholesome. Whatever tf this mom is doing, she needs to get that weird jealousy out of her heart.

Im from lithuania and i just want to clarify, our food is DEFINITELY not that bad. I was in the hospital and you get tomatos to eat, a cooked chicken meal (not a whole chicken, a piece of meat like a steak that looks like its deep fried) with a side of cucumbers slices. Sometimes you get a bowl of cucumbers slices or a bowl of tomato slices. Not as bad as i just said it like that, since its almost a cuisine.

If my daughter and son don't cook better than me when I provided them with all of my recipes, have had them watch me cook and am planning to enroll them in Mini-chef lessons plus culinary arts when they are 16 just to ensure they can always eat delicious meals like I have accustomed them to, we are going to have a freaking problem. I wanna go over to their houses and see full 5 star meals, I did it for them, and food is so important to me. If they don't make delicious meals, I have failed my mission and if my plan works, they will get ALL the praise!

My mom is nowhere NEAR this bad, but she DOES do this thing where any time I make a favorite ingredient (eg salmon) in a new way (ie experimenting with a new technique/getting inventive) she’ll say “it’s not my favorite way you’ve ever made X” referring to her preferred method I’ve historically made it in the past. She will also throw an absolute TANTRUM if I attempt to make bread. Bread is HER thing. I am bad at making bread. It is the one thing I cannot do. She is a savant at it. These are the facts of our family. I am not allowed to upset the balance of the universe by correcting this deficiency in my culinary knowledge. It is known.

The daughter is talented and young and beautiful, and mom is SO clearly jealous, and uses criticism to mask it. It’s a real shame because wouldn’t it be sweet if her mom could just be proud of her.

Competition? That's dumb as hell. Your kid is supposed to be the better version of you, that's the main job description of a parent. Be better than them. That's a mighty big flex for the parents too. "Aye, look at what my kid made. See that? Yeah, I did that. I taught my kid how to throw down and she's doing better than I do."
